Abstract

Background: The prevalence of non communicable disease-related to diet such as diabetes mellitus and hypertension is increased in Indonesia. One of the causes is increased consumption of unhealthy foods. Nutrition label is projected as a helpful tool to make healthy choice for consumption of packaged foods. Objective of the study is to identify the relationship between the practice of using nutrition label and consumption of packaged food among members of a diabetes community in Yogyakarta. Method: This study was an observational analytic design with cross sectional approach. Subjects of the study were 55 active members of Persatuan Diabetisi Indonesia (Persadia) of Yogakarta Municipality Hospital, obtained by consecutive sampling. Data of practice in nutrition label use was assessed using a validated questionnaire, while consumption of packaged foods was collected using Semi Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQFFQ). Chi-square test at significance level of 0.05 was employed for analyzing the data. Results: Chi square test showed insignificant relationship between the use of nutrition label and consumption of packaged foods, as indicated by p value of 0.176 and confidence interval of 0.62-11.39. Moreover, most of the subjects (80%) had high level of packaged foods consumption, particularly for fat and natrium intake. Conclusion: There was no significant relationship between practice of using nutrition label and consumption of packaged foods among members of Persatuan Diabetisi Indonesia of Yogyakarta District Hospital.

Abstract

Young athletes who go to training centers under the Department of Youth and Sport may fulfill their dietary needs from meals provided in the accommodation facilities, yet they can also access foods outside the dormitories. Perception on institutional food can influence one’s food intake and nutritional adequacy. This study used cross-sectional design and involved 24 athletes of martial sports from Student Education and Training Center (PPLP) Central Java Indonesia who resided in Jatidiri athlete’s hostel Semarang. Variables were measured using questionnaire, food record form, and body weight measurement whereas data were analyzed using Pearson and Spearman correlation test. Perception on dormitory foods had no correlation with intake of energy, macronutrient, vitamin C, and calcium from dormitory food (p>0.05) but it had significant correlation with intake of energy, protein, and fat from meals outside the dormitory (p<0.05). Menu improvement is proposed to increase the intake of dormitory meals.

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Kantin merupakan usaha komersial yang menyediakan makanan dan minuman untuk khalayak umum. Salah satu isu kesehatan penting pada usaha kantinadalah praktik hygiene penjamah makanan. Praktik higiene penjamah makanan perlu diperhatikan untuk menjaga kualitas makanan yang disediakan. Praktik higiene dapat ditingkatkan dengan pelatihan disertai penyampaian media. Penelitian dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh media visual higiene sanitasi makanan terhadap praktik higiene perseorangan penjamah makanan di kantin kampus.Metode: Jenis penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif dengan desain kuasi eksperimental dengan pendekatan time-series. Sampel penelitian sebanyak 14 penjamah makanan di kantin kampus yang berasal dari salah satu fakultas ilmu kesehatan. Analisis data menggunakan uji t berpasangan dan korelasi Pearson untuk membandingkan praktik higiene perseorangan sebelum dengan sesudah disampaikan media visual higiene sanitasi makanan.Hasil: Ada pengaruh positif yang kuat antara penyampaian media visual higiene sanitasi makanan terhadap praktik higiene perseorangan penjamah makanan di kantin kampus dengan p=0,001 (p<0,01) dan r=+0,667.Simpulan: Ada pengaruh penyampaian media visual terhadap praktik higiene perseorangan penjamah makanan di kantin kampus.
