Abstract

This research deals with the students’ ability in writing descriptive text through outdoor learning activity at the sixth semester of English language education study program of Palopo Cokroaminoto University. The population of this research is the sixth semester students of English language education study program in Palopo Cokroaminoto University. The total number of population was 100 students. The researcher applied the purposive sampling technique and there is 30 students as sample. Writing test is the instrument of this research. Based on the findings and discussion in the previous chapter, the researcher concludes the students’ ability in writing descriptive text through outdoor learning activity is good. It can be proven by the students’ mean score is 78 and it is categorized good.

Abstract

This research deals with the teaching strategies used by the lecturers in writing class at Palopo Cokroaminoto University. The population of this research was lecturers of primary school teacher education of Palopo Cokroaminoto University. The total numbers of the population are 20 lecturers. The researcher used purposive sampling and chose one lecturer in the third semester as the sample because the lecturer taught writing subject and often use various strategies in teaching writing. The instruments in this research were observation checklist, recording and interview. The researcher used observation checklist and recording in the class when the lecturers taught writing. The researcher found the lecturer used two strategies in teaching English writing namely lecturing strategies and active learning. Active learning such us, the lecturer uses media in explaining material, giving question to the students to encourage their motivation, create an enjoyable atmosphere to make students more creative in producing writing, analyzing and doing assessment about students’ work, giving motivation to the students for making a report such as composition. Lecturing strategies such us, preparing the media, explaining the material, help and encourage the students to attention and listen accurately, the teacher can use her/his experience in teaching or explaining material especially in giving an example, make a conclusion of the materials.

Abstract

This research used descriptive quantitative method. It aimed at finding out and analyzing students’ interest on the use of mind mapping strategy to improve the students writing skill. To gain the data, the researchers used questionnaire with 10 statements. The researchers took second grade students of SMP Satap Pongsamelung and chose 10 students as participants. The data shows that they have good response towards the use of semantic mapping strategy such as: they were always interested, felt helpful and happy to learn English using this strategy particularly in improving their writing skill. Based on the result of this research, it can be concluded that that most of the students were interested to improve their writing skill using semantic mapping strategy.

Abstract

The impact of Covid-19 on the world of education is very large and is felt by various parties, especially teachers, school principals, students and also parents. Teaching and learning activities through online are very new activities, given that online learning activities are learning activities by utilizing electronics and the internet in the delivery of learning materials. This research deals with the college student obstacle of the seventh semester at Palopo Cokroaminoto University during the online learning in Covid 19 Pandemic Era. The subject of this research was the college student obstacle of the seventh semester at Palopo Cokroaminoto University in academic year 2021. The total number of subject was 15 students. The researcher used the random sampling. The instrument in this research is interview and analyzed by qualitative. Based on the findings and discussion in the previous chapter, the researcher concludes that the college student obstacle of the seventh semester at Palopo Cokroaminoto University during the online learning in Covid 19 Pandemic Era are bad network, quota data, and unsupported facilities such as hp, good electric current.

Abstract

This research deals with The Seventh Year Students’ Perception of Teaching and Learning English for Young Learners by Using Audio-Visual Style at Palopo Cokroaminoto University. The population of this research was all English student of English Education Study Program in Palopo Cokroaminoto University in academic year 2020. The total number of population was 10 students. The researcher used the random sampling. The instrument in this research is questionnaire comprise five questions and analyzed by qualitative. Based on the findings and discussion in the previous chapter, the researcher concludes that the seventh year students’ perception of teaching and learning English for young learners by using audio-visual style at Palopo Cokroaminoto University is positive. It is supported by students’ answer that audio-visual style is appropriate in learning English for young learner because the students can remember information presented in picture by looking if student does not has strong skill to be listened because in audio-visual not only can be seen but also can be listened so the student can understand material easier. Besides that audio-visual has sound and interesting picture so does not make student get bored and has spirit in learning.

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to find out whether or not mind mapping improves the students’ descriptive writing ability covering content, organization, vocabulary, language use and mechanics components; which aspects is dominantly improved by the effectiveness of mind mapping. This research applied quasi experimental method. This research consisted of assigned two groups namely experimental group and control group. Each group consisted of 30 students. The sample was chosen by purposive random sampling technique. The instrument of this research was writing test. In collecting data, this research used some procedures namely pre test, treatment, post test. In the experimental group, the students were given material through mind mapping for five times while in control group, the students were also given treatment through conventional way (lecturing method) for five times. The researcher used writing test both in experimental and control group. The data of students’ writing ability were analyzed by using inferential statistics through SPSS 17.0 version. The effectiveness of mind mapping improved the students’ writing ability in descriptive text. This is proved by the mean score of experimental group in posttest was 81.61 (good) classification. While the mean score of control group in posttest was 49.86 (poor) classifications. It was also proved by the different improvement of writing components (content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanics) of both groups in the posttest which was taken from both valuators. Those improvements showed that effectiveness of mind mapping improved the students’ writing ability in the experimental group. It is more effective to improve the students’ writing ability. It indicated that the alternative hypothesis (H1) was significantly approved. Component in writing dominantly improved is content. The data result proves such conclusion which is based on the data from researcher and lecturer in the table 4.51 that showed that the mean score of content was 84.44 and it was higher than the other components.

Abstract

Lesson Study for Learning Community was held by applying Magang Based Lesson Study at Universitas Cokroaminoto Palopo. There were ten Students collaborated with 4 lecturers and 4 teachers. Those teachers are the teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Palopo, SMP Negeri 2 Palopo, SMP Cokroaminoto Palopo, and a teacher at SMA Negeri 6 Palopo. This paper aimed is describing the students’ activities in learning by teaching and how they prepare their class. The research question of this paper is what are the students’ activities in preparing their class? How do the students’ prepare their class? What Lesson learned found in Magang Based Lesson Study? In answering the research question, the researcher conducted a research in a year by participating in learning community. Although this research has not finished yet, she describes that the students who conducted Magang prepared their class by learning how do their students learn. After that, they discussed it by collaborating with lecturers at Universitas Cokroaminoto Palopo. In doing teaching in classroom, the rest of the students observed the students’ way in learning. It is about when do the students start to focus on studying, how did they learn collaboratively with their groups.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to know what kinds of nonverbal communication used by the second semester students of Informatics Study Program in studying English at Universitas Cokroaminoto Palopo. This research applied descriptive method. The population of this research is the second semester students of Informatics Study Program class 2P and 2J with the total population is about 70 students. And the participants are 35 students. They were taken by applying purposive sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researcher analyzed the data qualitatively and the instruments used observation checklist and supported by documentation. Based on the observation, the researchers conclude that there are some nonverbal communications that students used in studying English such as: gesture, posture, facial expression and eye contact.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian ini di adakan pada bulan awal bulan November 2020. Kegiatan ini sangat bermanfaat bagi anak usia dini karena mereka dapat mengasah kemampuan memahami makna konsep bilangan dengan indikator mencocokkan angka dengan media real object yaitu buah melalui kegiatan mencocokkan jumlah buah dengan lambang bilangan. Sehingga dapat melatih anak berhitung dengan menyebutkan angka satu, dua tiga dan seterusnya sekaligus mengenal lambang bilangan atau angkanya. Selain itu, semakin mengasah potensi dari aspek kognitif, bahasa dan social. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini khususnya pada pendidikan anak usia dini di Alam Islamic Rainbow School di Wonorejo Timur Kab. Luwu Timur berupa pengenalan dan pengajaran lambang bilangan dengan mencocokkan dengan jumlah buahnya. konsep lambang bilanganKegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanakan selama 1 Minggu, dimana dalam pelaksanaannya terbagi dalam beberapa tahap yaitu: (1) tahap perencanaan (plan), (2) tahap pelaksanaan (do) dan (3) tahap evaluasi (see). Hasil dari kegiatan ini, siswa yang ikut dalam kegiatan ini merasa sangat senang dan antusias. Ini terlihat dari sikap yang mereka nampakkan dengan mengikuti kegiatan ini dari awal hingga akhir yaitu pada saat guru bertanya, siswa yang tahu jawabannya sangat antusias menjawab dan berulang kali mengangkat tangannya saat sesi pertanyaan secara massal atau menyeluruh. Salah satu media yang digunakan adalah real object yang ramah lingkungan dengan tema go green berupa buah-buahan. Hasil akhirnya adalah, seluruh anak usia dini dapat menepis rasa malu, ragu-ragu mereka dengan berani menjawab pertanyaan dalam bentuk ujaran maupun ungkapan-ungkapan. Setelah kegiatan ini berakhir, diharapkan agar mereka dapat mengaplikasikan ilmu pengetahuan yang mereka dapatkan di dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.

Abstract

This research deals with the sixth year students’ perception of mind mapping in learning vocabulary at PalopoCokroaminoto University. The population of this research was the primary school teacher education study program in PalopoCokroaminoto University in academic year 2021/2022. The total number of population was 10 students. The researcher used the purposive sampling. Based on the findings and discussion in the previous chapter, the researcher concludes that the English students give positive perception mind mapping in PalopoCokroaminoto University. It is supported by students’ answer about mind mapping that “mind mapping is good and appropriate to be used in learning vocabulary.
