Abstract

This study compares the degree of adaptation of four shallot varieties introduced to the sub-optimal land of Wamena with one local variety. The study determined the physiological processes of plants observed 5 and 11 weeks after planting. The results show that the best-adapted shallot is the local variety which is indicated by the parameter of harvest index (0.820). In addition, the results showed that the local Wamena variety produced high production with a high assimilation rate (0.072 g/dm2week-1), had a leaf area (41,750 cm) and a high leaf area value (0.465 cm) even though it was indicated by treatment without fertilizer application. Liquid organic (control treatment). Compared with the introduced varieties, which showed no significant effect on each liquid organic fertilizer treatment level. The difference in responses shown by each variety is influenced by the genetic ability of each variety which is supported by environmental conditions.

Abstract

Sweet potatoes in the Papuan Mountains region are very abundant and are sold without any processed variations. It is not uncommon for sweet potatoes to not sell even though the price is relatively cheap and affordable for all levels of society. For this reason, community service activities are carried out through community empowerment in implementing technology for processing and packaging sweet potato chips. The aim of this activity is to provide education to church youth (OMK) in Isakusa village to support increasing the income of church youth, and to support government programs in the agricultural sector. The method of implementing activities starts from determining the location, scheduling, socialization, making chips, and packaging the chips. The results of the training on processing and packaging sweet potato chips received a good response from the young people of St. Catholic Church (OMK). Stefanus Holima Wamena because during training it is not uncommon for the youth involved to show facial expressions that are curious, interested, happy and full of enthusiasm. Some of them said that they were very happy and satisfied with the products they had made and felt motivated to make them independently to sell to local people and local and foreign tourists as a form of home business that could increase their income. They also said that if possible, this kind of activity would be carried out sustainably by processing various types of basic materials which are superior in Wamena in particular and Mountain Papua in general.

Abstract

Abstract: Wamena is one of the areas with the potential to develop a wide variety of food crops and plantations in large and medium quantities because it is supported by its natural conditions. Wamena, especially throughout Jayawijaya Regency and even other Regencies in the Central Highlands of Papua, are known for their organic farming. In order to support and maintain the productivity of organic farming systems, as an academic activist in the agricultural sector, it is necessary to conduct training on making organic fertilizer through the use of banana weevils known as Local Microorganism Fertilizer (MoL). This training was based on observations of farmer groups in the Wesaput district, where all farmers in the farmer groups had never used organic liquid fertilizers or inorganic fertilizers as additional nutrients to increase the growth and production of their agricultural products. Therefore we try to provide understanding and approaches to farmer groups through community service on how to make Local Microorganism Liquid Fertilizer in order to increase the yields of local farmers in the Wesaput District, especially the village of Kama. As a result of this activity, we saw that the farmer group community in Wesaput gave a good response so they asked for similar activities to be carried out again so that the farmer group community was more independent in making and using liquid organic fertilizer using the natural resources around them.

Abstract

Nata is a food product from a fermentation process like banana peels. The requirement for making Nata products. Generally, the basic ingredients must have a fairly high glucose (carbohydrate) content. Banana peel is a waste material (banana fruit waste) which is quite a lot. Banana peel waste contains high levels of nutrients, especially vitamins, and minerals, so that it can be used as food raw material. Banana peel waste is good enough to be used as a substrate for making nata de Musa; judging from the nutritional content, it has a fairly high carbohydrate content. This empowerment activity is carried out through the Beginner's Community Service Program (PMP) for Fiscal Year 2023, funded by the Directorate of Research, Technology, and Community Services (DRTPM). This activity took place in Wamena City, Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Highlands Province, from July to August 2023, with the participation of 20 farmers. This community service initiative uses the Community Based Research (CBR) methodology for training and mentoring, specifically the Forum Group Discussion (FGD) technique. The results of this community service activity show a great opportunity to develop and continue as a community micro and medium business with processed banana skin waste products

Abstract

One type of pest that has begun to invade several types of plants in Jayawijaya Regency including hypere plants is the Fall Armyworm pest (Spodoptera litura F.). Armyworms are not the primary (main) pest on hypere plants. However, it is a secondary pest because it can attack several types of plants. However, the occurrence of a population explosion will cause higher damage to the attacked plants. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of various concentrations of diwoka leaf extract (Piper miniatum Bl.) on the mortality of Grayak caterpillar (Spodoptera litura F.) on sweet potato (Hipere) and the extract concentration which was more effective in controlling Grayak caterpillar pests (Spodoptera litura F.) in sweet potato plant (Hipere). The treatments tried were: 1. Control (sterile water application), 2. Diwoka leaf application 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90% through food (stomach poison). The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design with four replications each using 250 instar larvae of Spodoptera litura.F. Observations showed that there was an effect of each concentration tested on Spodoptera litura.F through food (stomach poison). Of the six treatments of diwoka leaf extract which was applied during the preliminary test on the fifth instar with a concentration of 70% showed a significant effect on the mortality rate of Spodoptera litura.F. After conducting a preliminary test and then carrying out further tests on the second instar larvae where in that instar the attack rate was very high, so the concentration used was 40%-90%. All concentrations showed a significant effect on second instar larvae, at a concentration of 40% the mortality rate was 12.50%, and the highest concentration was 90% with a mortality rate of 80%.
