Abstract

Butterfly has many ecological roles and it can be found in a wide range of habitats in urban areas. Urban forest as one of the butterfly habitat in urban areas has high conservation value, in contrast, environmental disturbances have been indicated causes various changes in urban forest environmental condition and affect communities that exist within it, including butterfly. This research aims to compare and analyze butterfly communities in various types, characteristics, and environmental disturbances of urban forest. The surveys were carried out at four types of urban forest (residential, industrial, recreational,and highway types) in East Jakarta Municipality on three different periods (dry, dry-wet transitional, and wet seasons) from October 2014 to Januari 2015 by using Pollard Transect method. Study showed that butterfly diversity was decreasing within increasing degree of environmental disturbance. Transitional period and urban forest in residential area had the highest species richness and diversity, moreover, recreational and residential types of urban forest had the highest community similarity in all seasons.  Keywords: butterfly, characteristic, environmental disturbance, types, urban forest

Abstract

Abstrak: Menurunnya kesadaran dan kerusakan lingkungan di era modern ini menyebabkan kurangnya wawasan tentang teknologi ramah lingkungan. Penggunaan pewarna tekstil dalam industri merugikan lingkungan dan kesehatan. Oleh karena itu, untuk menghindari dampak pencemaran lingkungan yang lebih signifikan, perlu digunakan teknologi pewarna alternatif yang ramah lingkungan. Produk Eco Print adalah solusi untuk masalah ekologi yang semakin memburuk. Oleh karena itu, kegiatan ini berfokus pada kelompok masyarakat Kampung Batik Kamboja yang terdiri dari masyarakat dan pengrajin batik di Kota Pontianak. Kegiatan ini merupakan sarana untuk meningkatkan produktivitas industri tekstil tanpa merusak ekologi lingkungan sekitar. Tahap awal tindakan adalah melakukan survei pendahuluan dengan melakukan wawancara dengan pengelola, memberikan edukasi cara membuat pewarna alami dengan teknik menumbuk, dan tahap terakhir adalah mengevaluasi pengetahuan peserta. Berdasarkan hasil kegiatan yang dilakukan, terjadi peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan kelompok masyarakat tentang teknik tumbuk dan pemanfaatan eco print. Kegiatan ini menjadi pendorong bagi kelompok masyarakat Kampung Batik Kamboja untuk berinovasi dalam pembuatan seni tekstil batik dan mengembangkan jenis tumbuhan Kalimantan Barat yang dapat digunakan sebagai pewarna alami.Abstract:  The decreasing environmental damage and awareness in this modern era have caused less insight into environmentally friendly technologies. The use of textile dyes in the industry harms the environment and health. Therefore, to avoid a more significant impact on environmental pollution, it is necessary to use an alternative dye technology that is environmentally friendly. Eco Print Products are the solution to the ever-worsening ecological problems. Therefore, this activity focuses on the Kampung Batik Kamboja community group, consisting of the community and batik artisans in Pontianak City. This activity is a means to increase the productivity of the textile industry without damaging the ecology of the surrounding environment. The initial stage of the action is to conduct a preliminary survey by conducting interviews with managers, providing education on how to make natural dyes with the pounding technique, and the final stage is to evaluate participants' knowledge. Based on the results of the activities carried out, there is an increase in knowledge and skills for community groups about the pounding technique and the use of the eco print. This activity became the impetus for the Kampung Batik Kamboja community group to innovate in the manufacture of batik textile art and develop West Kalimantan plant species that can be used as natural dyes.

Abstract

Abstrak: Semakin meningkatnya kesadaran lingkungan menyebabkan mulai beralihnya gaya hidup masyarakat untuk menggunakan produk yang ramah lingkungan. Penggunaan pewarna alami yang ramah lingkungan dalam proses produksi tekstil dapat menjadi alternatif untuk menghindari penggunaan pewarna sintetis yang dapat berdampak buruk bagi lingkungan maupun kesehatan. Oleh karena itu, penggunaan pewarna alami dengan memanfaatkan tumbuhan khas serta teknik pewarnaan shibori sangat bermanfaat untuk menghasilkan produk yang memiliki ciri khas, bernilai ekonomi, dan ramah lingkungan. Kelompok masyarakat Kampung Batik Kamboja terdiri dari masyarakat dan juga pengrajin batik yang ada di Kota Pontianak sehingga merupakan akseptor potensial karena merupakan pelaku langsung industri tekstil. Tahapan kegiatan dimulai dengan meninjau kondisi eksisting kelompok masyarakat tersebut, melakukan sosialisasi, memberikan pelatihan pembuatan pewarna alami dan teknik pewarnaan shibori, dan diakhiri dengan melakukan evaluasi pengetahuan peserta. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi yang dilakukan setelah kegiatan, terdapat peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan yang bagi kelompok masyarakat tersebut, yaitu pemahaman mengenai bahaya penggunaan pewarna sintetis bagi kesehatan maupun lingkungan, pemanfaatan jenis-jenis tumbuhan sebagai pewarna alami, dan teknik pewarnaan shibori. Kegiatan tersebut menjadi pendorong kelompok masyarakat Kampung Batik Kamboja untuk berinovasi dalam pembuatan karya seni tekstil batik dan mengembangkan jenis-jenis tumbuhan Kalimantan Barat yang berpotensi untuk dimanfaatkan sebagai pewarna alami.Abstract: Increasing of environmental awareness has led to the shifts of people's lifestyles to use environmental friendly products. The use of eco-friendly natural dyes in the textile production process might be used an alternative to avoid harmful effect to the environment and risk to human health when using synthetic dyes. Therefore, using natural dyes especially from typical plants and utilizing shibori coloring techniques are useful to produce distinctive, economic, and eco-friendly products. Kampung Batik Kamboja, a community group consists of people and batik craftsmen in Pontianak City, is a potential acceptor of the methods since they are real player in textile industry. The activities was started with the review of the current condition of the community followed by socialization, providing training on making natural dyes and shibori coloring techniques, and ending with evaluating the knowledge of participants. Based on the evaluation conducted in the end of activity, the results show an increase in knowledge and skills of the member of community, in term of the understanding of the dangers of using synthetic dyes for health and the environment. Also, they have knowledge in alternative method of coloring by using natural dyes from plant and applying shibori coloring techniques. This activity is able to empower Kampung Batik Kamboja community groups to innovate of batik textile manufacturing especially in the artworks and develop the utilization of West Kalimantan plant species as a potential natural dyes.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the level of thermal comfort of Tanjungpura University's green open space. The method used is to measure air temperature and humidity at seven green open spaces with three observation periods and then analyze it by calculating the Temperature Humidity Index (THI) value at each location. The results showed that the overall thermal comfort of green open space was still in the uncomfortable and partially uncomfortable category, with THI values between 25.61 to 28.93. In conclusion, there is a need for the development and enrichment of green open space vegetation in the Tanjungpura University area to increase thermal comfort for the academic community. Abstract

This study aims to examine the characteristics and environmental factors of turtles' preferences in making their natural nests. The method used is the descriptive quantitative method. The results showed that there were two types of turtles found during the observation, namely the green turtle (Chelonia mydas) and the hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata). Measurements and observations of the characteristics of the 14 nesting points showed that the diameter and depth of the green turtle's nest were larger than those of the hawksbill turtle. Both types of turtles have a preference for nesting areas on sloping beaches with temperatures of 28-30ºC and humidity of 76-89%, as well as being around vegetation in the form of sea pine (Casuarina equisetifolia), sea oyster (Gynura sp), sea pandanus (Pandanus odorifer), sea kangkung (Ipomea peltate) and sea hibiscus (Thespesia populnea). In conclusion, temperature, humidity and types of vegetation around the nest determine the turtle's preference in making natural nests for laying eggs. Abstract

One of the ecological functions of green open space (RTH) is to accommodate biodiversity in urban areas by providing a habitat for wild plants and animals. Pollution, urbanization, and various other environmental pressures make green open spaces in urban areas more susceptible to disturbances, both natural and due to human activities, which can affect the existence of biodiversity within them, including butterflies, which have specificity and sensitivity to certain environmental conditions, thus acting as bioindicators. Assessment of butterfly species, habitat conditions, and assistance with problems was carried out at four green open space locations in the East Jakarta Administrative City (DKI Jakarta Province) and four green open space locations in Pontianak City (West Borneo Province) to determine the potential and effectiveness of green open space as habitat protection for butterflies. The assessment was carried out by observing the presence of butterflies using the time search method and measuring the environmental factors that form the habitat and their correlation with the butterfly community through quantitative analysis. The results of the study showed that there were 22 species of butterflies in green open space in the East Jakarta Administrative City and 17 species of butterflies in green open space in Pontianak City. Correlation analysis at the eight green open space locations showed the same pattern, namely that the occurrence of butterfly species increased along with the number of forage plant species (as hosts or food plants) and canopy density (as shelter plants). The clustered shape of green open space is also a characteristic of green open space, which supports the function of green open space as a refuge habitat for butterflies in urban areas.

Abstract

Abstrak: Meningkatnya limbah kertas menyebabkan berbagai permasalahan lingkungan sehingga membutuhkan solusi untuk menanggulangi hal tersebut. Desa Sungai Kupah merupakan desa tujuan wisata yang juga menghadapi permasalahan limbah kertas yang berasal dari berbagai kegiatan masyarakat. Pendampingan pembuatan kertas daur ulang bertujuan untuk memberikan keterampilan baru untuk masayarakat sehingga dapat memanfaatkan limbah kertas serta menghasilkan produk ramah lingkungan yang memiliki ciri khas, bernilai ekonomi, sehingga berpotensi untuk dikembangkan dan diolah menjadi souvenir desa wisata yang ramah lingkungan. Kegiatan pendampingan dilakukan dengan memberikan pemaparan mengenai urgensi penanganan dan potensi pemanfataan limbah kertas, praktek pembuatan kertas daur ulang, serta evaluasi pengetahuan kepada 31 orang peserta. Orientasi awal menunjukkan bahwa 80,25% peserta belum mengetahui mengenai keterampilan pembuatan kertas daur ulang. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan peserta yang dilihat dari nilai rata-rata pre-test sebesar 63,23 sedangkan nilai rata-rata post-test sebesar 89,68. Survey kepuasan mitra juga menunjukkan nilai lebih dari 90% yang menunjukkan tingat penerimaan materi Sangat Baik. Peningkatan keterampilan peserta ditunjukkan dengan berhasilnya masing-masing peserta membuat kertas daur ulang. Seluruh peserta juga berpendapat bahwa keterampilan ini berpotensi untuk dikembangkan menkadi souvenir khas Desa Wisata Sungai Kupah dan tertarik untuk diberikan pendampingan lebih lanjut untuk pembuatan souvenir dari kertas daur ulang.Abstract: The increase in paper waste causes various environmental problems that require a solution. Sungai Kupah Village is a tourist destination that also faces the problem of paper waste from various community activities. Assistance in the manufacture of recycled paper aims to provide new skills for the community so that they can utilize waste paper and produce environmentally friendly products that have characteristics that have economic value so that they have the potential to be developed and processed into eco-friendly tourist village souvenirs. The activities were carried out by explaining the urgency of handling and potential utilization of paper waste, the practice of making recycled paper, and evaluating knowledge to 31 participants. The orientation showed that 80.25% of the participants needed to learn about making recycled paper. The evaluation results showed increased participants' knowledge, as seen from the average pre-test score of 63.23 and the post-test average score of 89.68. The satisfaction survey also shows a value of more than 90%, which indicates the level of acceptance is excellent. The improvement of participants' skills was shown by the success of each participant in making recycled paper. All participants also thought that this skill had the potential to be developed into souvenirs of Sungai Kupah Tourism Village and were interested in being given further assistance in making souvenirs from recycled paper.

Abstract

Abstrak: Hutan mengove yang luas dan jarak dekat dengan pusat kota menjadikan Desa Sui Kupah Kabupaten Kubu Raya menajdi salah satu desa tujuan wisata alami di Provinsi Kalimantan Barat, akan tetapi pada saaat ini pemanfaatan hutan mangrove dirasa belum optimal sehingga diperlukan upaya untuk meningkatkan pemanfaatannya. Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemanfaatan tumbuhan mengrove jeruju (Acanthus ilicifolius) sebagai produk olahan (kerupuk) agar nantinya dapat di perdagangkan kepada wisatawan sehingga menjadi menjadi sumber pendapatan alternatif bagi masyarakat sekitar. Pengabdian ini dilakukan dengan cara sosialisasi, demonstrasi dan praktek pembuatan kerupuk oleh para peserta kemudian dilanjutkan dengan proses evaluasi dengan cara menyebarkan kuisoner sebelum dan setelah pelaksanaan terhadap 31 orang peserta yang berasal dari Tim Penggerak PKK Desa Sui Kupah. Hasil pelaksanaan kegiatan dan evaluasi menunjukkan terjadi peningkatan pengetahauan tentang manfaat tanaman jaruju dari yang awalnya 27 % menjadi 100 %, peningkatan ketrampilan dari 29 % menjadi 100 % dan ketertarikan pengembangan produk dari 48% menjadi 84%. Abstract: The vast forest and close proximity to the city center make Sui Kupah Village, Kubu Raya Regency, one of the natural tourist destination villages in West Kalimantan Province, but at this time the use of mangrove forest is not optimal so efforts are needed to increase its. This service aims to increase the use of mangroves Acanthus iliciofilus plants as processed products (crackers) so that later they can be traded to tourists and become an alternative source of income for the surrounding community. This service was carried out using the participants' socialization, demonstration, and cracker-making practices then continued with the evaluation process by distributing questionnaires before and after the implementation of 31 participants from the Sui Kupah Village PKK Driving Team. The activities and evaluations showed an increase in awareness of the benefits of Acanthus iliciofilus plants from the initial 27 % to 100%, an increase in skills 29% to 100%, and product development interest 48% to 84%.

Abstract

Suhu udara di kawasan perkotaan mengalami peningkatan yang dapat mempengaruhi kenyamanan dan produktivitas masyarakat. Ruang terbuka hijau (RTH) terdiri dari berbagai jenis pohon yang memiliki peran ekologis untuk menanggulangi hal tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi kesesuaian karakteristik pohon pada RTH dalam ameliorasi iklim mikro sehingga diketahui sejauh mana efektivitas dalam memenuhi fungsi ekologisnya serta memberikan rekomendasi jenis-jenis tumbuhan yang mendukung pengelolaan dan konservasi RTH. Penelitian dilakukan dengan melakukan penilaian kesesuaian karakteristik pohon dengan fungsi ekologisnya berdasarkan KPI (Key Performance Index) pada beberapa ruang terbuka hijau di Kota Pontianak. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa angsana (Pterocarpus indicus), tanjung (Mimusops elengi), trembesi (Samanea saman), dan mahoni (Swietenia mahagoni) merupakan jenis pohon yang efektif dalam memodifikasi suhu dan kelembapan udara serta sebagai pemecah angin.

Abstract

Urban areas experience various symptoms of environmental decline caused by rapid development in industry and settlements and increased transportation activities. These cause a decrease in green space and changes in habitat-forming ecological components that can affect the biotic community in the habitat. Butterflies are insects with a widespread and can reflect the environmental conditions that become their habitat. This study examines the potential of various types of butterflies as bioindicators of environmental conditions by analyzing the relationship between butterflies’s existence and the characteristics of their habitat-forming environment. The research was conduct at four locations with different kinds of environmental disturbances and three replays in different periods of the season Butterfly observations were conducted by the Pollard Transect method and measuring microclimate variables, vegetation, and distance from the source of the disturbance. Determination of potential types as bioindicators is carried out with two stages of research: 1) analyzing the distribution of each type of butterfly to the environmental characteristics of Redundancy Analysis (RDA), 2) analyzing the criteria of general properties and response criteria of each type to environmental conditions. This research shows that Ypthima horsfieldii and Polyura hebe type butterflies are specialist types whose existence indicates good environmental conditions or low-disturbance environments. In contrast, Papilio demoleus is a more adaptable type, and its presence indicates impaired environmental conditions.
