Abstract

Kelangsungan tradisi bahari orang Buton hingga kini merupakan kekuatan budaya yang penting dikaji, tidak hanya karena latar historisnya, tetapi juga dapat menjadi sumber nilai kehidupan bagi mereka dalam menata masa depannya. Tradisi ini telah melampaui berbagai zaman dan generasi, dengan segala tantangannya, telah mengukuhkan orang Buton sebagai suku bangsa bahari Indonesia, bersama dengan suku bangsa lainnya yakni Bajo, Bugis-Makassar, Mandar, dan Madura. Artikel ini membahas sistem dan dinamika pelayaran tradisional, jaringan pelayaran, perniagaan antarpulau yang dilakukan pelayar Buton yang masih bertahan hingga sekarang. Tulisan ini menarasikan kebudayaan pelayar pulau terdepan di Buton (Pulau Batuatas) dalam mempertahankan hidup dan tradisi yang sudah berlangsung ratusan tahun. Selain itu, harapan atas kebijakan Poros Maritim Indonesia yang digaungkan oleh Pemerintahan Jokowi-JK juga dielaborasi. Maritime tradition of Buton people is a cultural strength, both for its historical background and live values for Buton people to manage their future. This tradition has existed for ages placing Buton people as an Indonesian maritime ethnic group, along with other ethnic groups, including Bajo, Bugis-Makassar, Mandar and Madura. This paper describes the system and the dynamic of traditional sailing, sailing network and interisland trade conducted by Buton sailors occurring until the recent days. It narrates the culture of the sailor in the forefront island of Buton (Batuatas island) in maintaining their lives and traditions that has existed for hundreds years. Moreover, it elaborates a hope of the maritime route policy currently promoted by Jokowi-JK government.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas orang Mandar sebagai suku bangsa maritim yang tidak diragukan eksistensinya. Sebagai pemangku kebudayaan maritim dan religius yang taat, tidak dapat dimungkiri keandalan manusia Mandar dalam berbagai arena kehidupan dan selalu memiliki ciri khas yang dapat bernilai positif. Metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan melakukan penelitian di Polewali Mandar dan Majene. Adapun teknik pengumpulan data dengan studi pustaka, pengamatan dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagai suku bangsa maritim, sangatlah urgen untuk melakukan penggalian nilai-nilai luhur masyarakat Mandar yang selalu menonjol dalam berbagai arena sosial, ekonomi dan politik. Orang Mandar memiliki nilai budaya yang khas yang selalu unggul dalam berbagai arena sosial, politik, hukum dan ekonomi. Bangsa Indonesia memiliki Baharuddin Lopa dan Basri Hasanuddin yang mewarnai peradaban Indonesia. Nilai-nilai luhur takkalai disombalang dotai lele rapu dadi na tuali di lolangan.” Orang Mandar menjunjung tinggi halhal yang baik, benar dan mulia. Nilai ini mengisyaratkan bahwa mereka bercita-cita menjadikan wilayahnya “Mandar masagena na mala bi” yang berarti “wilayah Mandar yang terpandang dan mulia.” Nilai-nilai inilah menjadi penopang kebudayaan Mandar sehingga melahirkan manusia Mandar yang selalu unggul dalam berbagai arena sebagai identitas suku bangsa maritim.

Abstract

Buton manuscripts indicated that Buton Kingdom appeared in 14th Century. In the periods of the 17 th, 18th, and 19th centuries, Buton Kingdom initiated to be the free kingdom. In the begining of 20th , dutch colonial goverment incorporated that the Buton kingdom and placed it under their rule. The principles were laid down based on the social cultural in eceonomic development. Relation to be governed especially are in the field of education, health, and economy. In 1960, Buton kingdom was dissolved following the death of Sultan Laode Muhammad Falihi as the last sultan. During the kingdom era, Buton social system consisted of three groups namelly kaomu, walaka, and papara. The system was established as power of ideology in Buton social political system in the era of goverment the fourth Sultan Dayanu Ikhsanuddin in 1578-1615. The Katobengke people as the subject and object of this paper belong to papara group. In the era of Buton Kingdom, the society was dominated by kaomu and walaka groups. This condition existed until the new order era, where in this period the dominant groups still have cultural and stereotype views toward this people as ini the era Buton kingdom. This paper focuses on the phenomena of power in the dynamic Buton’s social structure. In the Buton social structure, kaomu and walaka groups claimed them selves as the groups who have higher civilization in comparation with the Katobengke people, until today. Abstract

This article is the research on Bajonese life in Wakatobi regency of the Southeast Sulawesi Province as a community with a maritime history and culture as part of their life. In the interactional process with other communities in its surroundings in Wakatobi, The Bajonese are often stereotyped as pirates, stupid, and with physical characteristics that are different from other communities. In fact, for so long they have been neglected from the process of development implemented by either the central government or the regency government. As a marginal ethnic group, the Bajonese develop their own awareness to do morenients to negotiate at local political elements (bupati election=pilkada) and formed the “kekar Bajo” organization, and appointing Ir Abdul Manan, MSc as president of this organization, and identifying all Bajonese as members without regard to state borders.Key-words: Bajonese and Identity

Abstract

This paper aims to study the stereotypes by the kaomu-walaka group towards the Katobengke people as the less advantaged papara group. In the age of the Wolio Sultanate, the kaomu and the walaka as the dominant classes considered the Katobengke as the low social strata, or the dominated group, also called stereotyped people. However, the Katobengke has been trying to fight this definition. The forms of resistance against the kaomu-walaka group that have been done by the Katobengke include: resistance against the knowledge system of the Wolio people, resistance against their field of education, resistance by using state/military symbols, and conducting political negotiations to improve the statuses/positions of the Katobengke people in Butons social structure.Key words: Social Stratification, Stereotype, Resistence

Abstract

Pebula is a Buton's terminology to refer to acts of corruption. The act of pebula can be in the form of fraud or embezzlement of the state budget, bribes, as well as taking advantage of deception by abusing public office, authority, and power. In the social and state system in Buton, there is a wisdom that reflects the spirit of eradicating pebula. This spirit is manifest through several practices in the life of the community and state that functionally reflect prevention and action (law enforcement) of criminal acts pebula. This study was conducted with a qualitative approach using data collection techniques through the manuscript, library research, and in-depth interviews with informants. This article describes how the prevention and enforcement approach to “pebula” is practiced in the society and state life in Buton as an effort to actualize a clean and accountable governance.

Abstract

This article identifies the cultural values ​​of Sara Pataanguna in strengthening inter-ethnic harmony in Baubau, South-East Sulawesi Province. The research is qualitative research conducted in the area settled by various ethnic groups such as Buginese, Torajan, Balinese, Ambonese, Javanese, and Chinese. In collecting data, we used a documentation study, in-depth interviews, and observations. Data analysis in this study was conducted interactively through three activity lines, namely data reduction, presentation, and conclusion. The results show that the cultural values ​​of Sara Pataanguna were sufficient to contribute to social-ethical norms, which are the legacy of Buton's ancestors since the Buton Sultanate ruled the land. These cultural values ​​form the basis for the Butonese and the migrant's own values living in Baubau since, in principle, these values (from local Butonese and from the migrants) synergize each other. The presence of migrant ethnic groups contributes to cultural values ​​and mutual symbiosis of the social structure in Baubau.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk : 1). Menggambarkan secara detail pola komunikasi antara orang Bajau dan orang Buton di Kecamatan Mawasangka Kabupaten Buton Tengah di kalangan suku Bajau, 2). Menggambarkan secara detail berbagai stereotip dan prasangka sosial antara orang Buton terhadap orang Bajau, 3). Menguraikan secara detail tentang hubungan antara Orang Bajau dan Orang Buton di dalam kehidupan bermasyarakat.Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam, dokumentasi dan studi kepustakaan.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 1) pola komunikasi antar budaya antara Orang Bajau dengan Orang Buton bahwa adanya kebudayaan yang dimiliki serta segala hal yang melekat pada masing-masing kelompok memiliki persamaan dan perbedaan yang tidak terlalu mencolok, 2) sikap etnosentrisme yang mengakar secara kuat pada kelompok etnis yang dominan yakni Orang Buton, yang menyebabkan mereka menyematkan stereotip buruk yang dilakukan secara terbuka dan terang-terangan kepada kelompok yang dianggap subordinat yakni ke orang Bajau yang dimaknai derajatnya lebih rendah, 3) hubungan orang Bajau dengan orang Buton dalam kehidupan bermasyarakat menunjukkan bahwa ada interaksi yang menunjukkan adanya konflik antar pemuda Buton dan Bajau.

Abstract

Nilai budaya maritim menjadi ciri kebudayaan orang Buton. Oleh karena itu, perahu menjadi penopang utama kelangsungan tradisi maritim orang Buton dari waktu ke waktu dan dari satu tempat (ruang) ke tempat yang lain. Mereka berlayar melintasi ruang samudera (laut) dan dari satu pulau ke pulau lain. Perahu lambo merupakan kebudayaan yang tidak lepas dari eksistensi tradisi maritim orang Buton. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data kepustakaan, pengamatan dan wawancara di wilayah Kepulauan Buton. Hasil penelitian menarasikan dinamika pelayaran dan perubahan bentuk dan fungsi perahu lambo seiring dengan masuknya motorisasi dan perubahan struktur sosial masyarakat. Perahu lambo sebagai komponen utama kebudayaan maritim orang Buton.
