Abstract

Jasper is one type of microcrystalline silica which include to gemstone variety. Indonesia has a high potential of jasper because its variety and a huge number of jasper that widely spread in Indonesia. There are 3 (three) types of jaspers that usually found in Indonesia, red jasper, yellow jasper, and green jasper. Among three of them, red jasper is much more abundant especially in Southern Java. Therefore, this research was held to observe the differences of red jasper's characteristic in three places in Java, i.e., Bungbulang – Garut, Samigaluh – Yogyakarta, and Donorojo – Pacitan areas. To attain the purpose of this research, SEM analysis is used to compare their textures and XRF for the chemical compositions. The research concludes that the red jaspers from those three places have the same texture, the granulated texture which derived from quartz texture. The grain size seems to increased from west to east. From the chemical composition it can be seen that the red color of jasper is strongly affected by Fe, Cr, and V. The Ti elements of red jasper also increased from west to east because there is a high Ti content in Pacitan's red jasper and perhaps by the combination of those elements resulting the purple color in red jasper. Keywords - red jasper, gemstone, composition, element, Southern Java

Abstract

Bukitlawang alluvial fan deposit formed, North Sumatra is one of the geomorphological aspect that can be observed in landsat and radar images.  Flow direction of the alluvial fan is  from west to east with having the total distribution of 77 Km2. Sumatra fault which is located at the eastern side of it plays a major role in the formation of alluvial fan deposit in this area. The type of alluvial fan is debris flow with the primary sedimentary process is a debris flow deposit.Keyword : Bukitlawang alluvial fan, Sumatra fault, Geomorphology, Radar – Landsat images.

Abstract

Subdistricts of Kaliwiro - Wonosobo is a region with diverse topography and included in the Karangsambung Geological Nature Reserve. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of socio-community in Karangsambung which influencing the landslides risk. In this study, we analyted every environmental physical factors to give the landslide hazard map. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is used as a method to processing landslides maps using Geographic Information System (GIS). The landslides hazard associated with the socio-community and the environment, visible role in reducing the landslides risk. The results obtained that in some places have a high-level of landslide hazard. However, the socio-community is very well in overcoming the impact and mitigation of landslides. Social conditions is very influential on the landslides risk which often occur in the Kaliwiro Sub district. Keywords: GIS, lanslide, menace, vulnerability, capacity, risk.

Abstract

Pari Island (Pulau Pari) is a small coral island in the Seribu Islands group off the north coast of the Jakarta Capital Special Region. Government has planned to develop this island into a tourist attraction because of its beautiful environment. However, the government development plans have not included facilities to meet the demand for groundwater, which represents the principal resource to meet the demand for freshwater. Pari Island has limited resources of groundwater due to the small size of the area where recharge of groundwater from rainfall can take place. A problem will arise that with the increase of visitors to the island the demand for freshwater will increase, while  groundwater resources of the island are very limited and dominated by brackish and saline groundwater. The objective of this research was to explore the possibility to increase the resources of fresh groundwater of Pari Island to support the increasing demand of fresh water. The method employed in the research is the application of ASRRG technology by the injection of the largest possible volume of rainwater and monitor changes of electrical conductivity and geoelectrical resistivity. Installation of an ASRRG network proved effective in lowering the salinity of groundwater in small islands. By increasing pore volume from 30% to 60% salinity decreases by 77%, which is reflected by the effect that the fresh groundwater lens which before comprised brackish water became fresh water with a thickness of 2.5 meter. The gain in pore volume equaled the decrease in salinity.Key words: Artificial recharge, Island hydrology, Salt-water/fresh-water relations, Indonesia

Abstract

This study focuses on correlation of liptinite and vitrinite maceral to kerogen type of shale from Kelesa Formation in Kuburan Panjang areas, Sumai sub-basin, Central Sumatra Basin. The composition of the organic material consists of vitrinite maceral ranged from 0.2 to 5%, liptinite from 0.6 to 4.7%, the type of minerals in the form of pyrite from 0.2 to 16%, and 0.2 -24.2% of carbonate, as well as clay minerals are the most dominant component ranged between 71.6 -98%. TOC values of the shale range from 1.18% to 7.17%, which indicate ability of the shale as a good source rock. Kerogen type analysis of theshale in the research area tends to indicate I, II and III kerogen types. There is an influence of the liptinite and vitrinite maceral groups abundance to the type of kerogen, where liptinit maceral group tends to produce type I and II kerogen. Key word : Kelesa Formation, Eocene-Oligocene, Central Sumatera Basin, Vitrinite, Liptinite
