Abstract

This paper explores how roles and values in Indonesian households are taken into consideration when determining the use of space to work at home. Along with socioeconomic and technological developments, working at home is increasingly becoming a common thing to find in Indonesia. Work activities must be carried out in accordance with the context of the household that has established its own conventions, roles, meanings, and values. However, taking the role and value factors of the household into consideration when exploring the reasons behind the spatial utilization for work at home still receives minimal attention. Using a qualitative research approach, this study explores which aspects of roles and values within the household are taken into consideration in determining how the space available at home is used for work. This study also answers the types of spatial utilization formed as the result of the aforementioned roles and values. The consideration factors found are different for each type of household so that the resulting form of space use is also different. The findings from this study found that consideration of certain household aspects can also give rise to its own form of spatial use.

Abstract

Apartment is a room or several rooms (rooms) that are functioned or designated as a place to live, located in a building that usually has other rooms or rooms and the like. This study attempts to explore and analyze the relationship between residential space patterns and student behavior patterns in Jakarta. The behavioral patterns of students that affect the pattern of vertical residential spaces not only have an impact on the behavior and form of space but also see how student behavior shapes architecture in residential space patterns and architecture shapes student behavior. The purpose of this study is to understand the theory related to the relationship between vertical residential space patterns and student behavior patterns, to understand the characteristics of the relationship between residential space patterns and student behavior, to understand environmental factors for student behavior. The research method taken on the research approach uses a qualitative descriptive method. The data studied and obtained are physical and non-physical data obtained from interviews, observations, and mapping of student behavior patterns in residential spaces of Jakarta apartments. The approach that will be used is the Human Behavior approach to students in apartment housing. From the analysis of behavior patterns carried out, student activities are quite dense, causing the use of furniture according to needs and has ergonomic characteristics.

Abstract

One of the most important aspect in architecture is the selection of exterior material. This materialsurface faces directly with building’s surrounding climate and environment, transferring the heat through its wall and roof significantly so it requires more consideration from the planners. Widely use of glasses as building’s exterior impacts its heat absorbing thereby it needs more power for air conditioning in order to keep the interior temperature productively workable. The objective of this research is to observe the impact between glass partition and interior thermal condition, how the habitants react, and also the ideal temperature for both users and building’s OTTV. Correlational research combines results from thermal observation and user’s perceptionin order to get its convenience thermal condition and to know its OTTV so we can issue the standard

Abstract

This research investigates the segregation phenomenon that occurs in Jakarta through the lens of the Batavia Canal, exploring its historical and urbanistic role in shaping the social structure and spatial planning of the city. By focusing on developments over time, this study aims to provide an in-depth understanding of how the canals in Batavia, which characterized the city during colonial times, played a role in establishing the segregation patterns that can be observed today. The research methodology involves historical analysis of canals, literature research, and postcolonial discourse analysis to reveal the correlation between canal structures and segregation patterns in Jakarta's urban space. These findings were integrated with interviews and a participatory approach to understand local community perspectives on the perceived impacts of segregation. The research results highlight how the canals in Batavia are not only physical but also symbolic elements in the formation of urban space. Over time, these canals can become associated with social and economic divisions, creating inequalities in access to city resources and services. The implications of these findings provide a basis for deep introspection into Jakarta's current urban spatial challenges, demonstrating the need for inclusiveness-oriented urban planning to overcome persistent segregation. Thus, this research encourages awareness of the complexity of interactions between physical and social elements in Jakarta's urban space. Directed towards solutions based on an understanding of history and contemporary reality, this study is expected to provide valuable insights for more holistic, equitable and sustainable urban planning in the future.

Abstract

This study attempts to unveil the interrelationships between marital and housing tenure status of female adolescents and adults in Jakarta province. Although gender equality becomes one of the prioritized sustainable development goals, the housing tenure of female adolescents and adults, according to their current marital status, is rarely examined for ensuring their tenure security and improvement of well-being. The employed mixed-method research with sequential quantitative-qualitative methods delivers the crosstab analysis to identify the majority of types of housing tenure according to the marital status of 289 female respondents, and axial coding from interviews with the selected respondents to understand the interrelationship between their marital and housing status. The result highlights that life-course events such as entering marriage, parenthood, and marriage dissolution lead to housing mobility and tenure changes, which are driven by financial capacity for meeting physiological and psychological needs. It emphasizes the meaning of a house for women as a haven for physical and psychological refuge, rather than a mere representation of social status. It complements the academic conversation on the gender-related topic of housing and also enriches the housing policy, planning, and design to meet the objective of the gender equality program according to sustainable development goals.

Abstract

Currently, Indonesia is experiencing the phenomenon of an Aging Population, along with the increasing elderly population. Then facilities are needed for the elderly in the form of nursing homes. However, existing nursing homes have limited facilities and activities for the elderly. One of the strategies for fulfillment above is the Senior Living facility, as a residence that focuses on the elderly community who are productive and active in social and economic aspects, as well as living prosperously and happily. To increase the productivity of the elderly, senior living design strategies can use environmental and behavioral architecture approaches. This study aims to determine the indicators of senior living design with an environmental, architectural, and behavioral approach. This research method uses descriptive qualitative with stages: (1) Observation of behavior and facilities in three Senior Living case studies. (2) Identify indicators of environmental architecture design and behavior in three Senior Living case studies. (3) Senior Living design recommendations with an environmental and behavioral architecture approach. The results showed the form of application related to the criteria that need to be considered in designing Senior Living.

Abstract

Research on Islamization of mosque at tomb complex (masjid makam) has not been found much. The aim is to examine the new meaning of Islam to differentiate from Hindu-Buddha in mosque architecture in Sunan Drajat’s tomb and masjid makam. This research used a semiotic analysis about the Islamization on architecture aspects. The conclusion is the continuity of Islamization in rituals is more dominated in the tomb of Sunan Drajat than in masjid makam. Barokah well has connotative meanings as a source of blessings and sustenance. Mustaka has the connotative meaning as a symbolization of one god. The seven terraces symbolize the seven tanazul or the creation of humans to a perfect level. The existence of the Sunan Drajat’s tomb and masjid makam had an impact on the settlements growth and creates a city image that Paciran Lamongan is a pondok pesantren city.
