Abstract

This research aims at describing clearly about the contribution of using rubric as alternative assessment towards students learning motivation. This research was conducted at Dian Harapan Karawaci in grade IX junior high school. This is a descriptive qualitative research, the data collection uses interview, questionnaire, and documents. The interview involved five science teachers (who teach physics, biology, and chemistry) and 15 students of grade IX. The data in the form of questionnaire were gathered from teachers and students, analyzed by using statistic in order to obtain the percentage of answer from the teachers and students. It is concluded that the rubric of assessment has close relationship with students learning motivation. In its contribution, rubric as a means of assessment is able to motivate students learning.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a big book media based on fieldwork, needs analysis, and the study of literature in kindergarten. This research and development is adopting the model of Borg & Gall with the stages consisting of: (1) research and information collecting, (2) planning, (3) developing the preliminary form, (4) preliminary filed testing, (5) main product revision, (6) main filed testing, (7) operational product revision, (8) operational field testing, and (9) final product revision. The subjects of the preliminary field test was one class, and those for field test were five classes. The subjects of the operational testing were eleven classes. The data was collected through interviews, validation product, observation, and questionnaires. The data analysis technique used was inter-rater reliability and Cohen’s Kappa with SPSS program version 22. The result of the research was the big book media and its guide book that consisted of introduction, basic competencies and indicators, steps of using the media, and daily activity plan. The result of material expert showed that the material was in a sufficient category. The result of media expert showed that the media was excellent. The result of preliminary field test, field test, and operational test were valid according to Aiken validity. The agreement of teachers in field test with Kappa coefficient value showed 50% or moderate. The agreement of teachers in operational test with Kappa coefficient value showed 51,78% or moderate. The literacy ability of children at operational test improved well.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the ability to recognize letters through the method of playing with the smart box media for children aged 5-6 years in Sion Blora Kindergarten. The activities to identify letters using the smart box media is able to motivate children's interest to learn. This classroom action research was conducted in two cycles with three meetings in each cycle. The subjects of the study were 14 children aged 5-6 years. The data collection was done with interviews, observation, and documentation. The research instrument referred to Permendikbud (Regulation by the Minister of Education and Culture) Number 146 Year 2014. The observation was done with the assessment sheets, documentation, and interviews with the classroom teachers to determine the conditions and problems of children in the classroom, analyzed with a descriptive quantitative technique. The success indicator of this research is 90% for the average value. The results showed an increase in the average score from the pre-cycle of 14,29% to 60,71% in cycle I; up to 92.86% in cycle II. Thus, it can be said that the percentage of success reached ≥ 90%.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the development of interactive CD learning materials based on power point to improve students’ learning outcomes within the topic of production technology, communication and transportation in grade IV. The research methods used are research and development, consisting of the preliminary study, model development, and model testing. The results show that the interactive CD learning materials developed are eligible according to the development steps. The results of media validation and the results of material validation were shown with average score of 79,8% and 87,2% respectively. The students' responses to interactive learning materials scored 81.75% on small-scale trials while large-scale trials obtained a score of 85%. Then the teacher's response scored 71.7% and 80.48% respectively. Based on the value obtained, then the interactive CD teaching materials are feasible to be applied to grade 4 elementary school students. Based on the test results of the student learning on small-scale, it showed that 63% of students passed with the score ≥75. While on a large-scale, 100% of the students passed and scored ≥75. Thus, it can be concluded that the development of interactive teaching materials is appropriate for students in grade IV of elementary school.

Abstract

The article deals with analyzing female characters in the WHERE WE ONCE BELONGED by Sia Figiel. The novel is important for students who study postcolonialism and feminism as it gives an insight for gender and race issues. The aim of this article is to show how females in a male-dominated societies are persecuted. Furthermore, females are regarded as inferior according to Edward Said’s theory of Orientalism. The Samoan culture was once colonized by the British. Therefore, the legacy of colonialism and its effects remains there, even after the national independence. It first gives some clarifications about the publishing of the novel and the writer. Then, it comes to the discussion about the colonialism in the novels with its connections to the main characters and how the colonizers were, and also how it affected their lives. In the next part, it explains double colonization. It talks about how almost all of the postcolonial writings were occupied by how women were muted. Then, it recalls how the female characters were suppressed and oppressed by the males and the English dominant power. It shows how they were double-colonized, not having even the freedom to show it.

Abstract

Producing a scientific article is one of the requirements that must be met by the Widyaiswara (civil servants who are responsible for doing education and training for other civil servas) to be able achieve higher level of rank and positions. This paper is intended to motivate the Widyaiswara in conducting scientific research. This article briefly discusses about the relevance of knowledge and research, the research processes, the hypothetical example of scientific research and scientific research ethics.

Abstract

This study aims to: 1) develop syntax of instructional contextual integrated thematic design models to improve the meaningful learning of elementary students; 2) describe an validity models; and 3) describe the level of effectiveness of the model. This R&D research consists of a preliminary study, model designing and developing to be validated by experts, the model testing. The preliminary field testing involved 4 teachers and 57 elementary students participants. The main field testing involved 8 teachers and 94 students. The research instrument are questionnaires and test. This research findings are: 1) the model steps includes: a) setting a theme; b) adding sub-themes; c) the analysis of SKL, KI, KD and making indicators; d) the making of nets of sub-themes; e) developing syllabus; f) developing RPP; g) compiling a fragment of the teacher's book; and h) developing fragments of student books; 2) the model validity level is in the very high category (86%), the syllabus and lesson plans and the material are in the high category (69.8%; 69%); and 3) the meaningfulness of student learning has increased, namely in the preliminary field test increased from 49.49 in pretest to 69.44 in post-test, and in the broad field test, the value increased greater than 47.98 to 70.43. The statistical test using the t-test ensures that the increase is significant, because the probability value (0.00) is smaller than the value of α = 0.05.

Abstract

This research aims is to develop a learning media called Domano Card, that is an abbreviation from Trigono mathematics Dominoes. This media is expected to be valid, effective, and practical to be used as a learning tool for Trigonometry Courses in the college. It is consists of three sets of Domano cards, game boards, and game rules. This Domano Card contains of the pairs of questions and answers. This research type is Research Development (R&D) with ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluate). The subject of this research is 64 active students of Mathematics Education, Satya Wacana Christian University in Trigonometry course. Domano cards are developed based on the students’ learning styles. Validity test was done by 2 validators, there are media experts and material experts It has obtained media feasibility result of 98.71% with very decent category and the result of material feasibility of 92.5% with very decent category. The effectiveness test was done by Paired Samples t-test with SPSS 17. It is indicated that there is a significant differences after the use of Domano Card with the mean value improvement from 57 to 73. The respondents of practicality test are lecturer of Trigonometry course and the lecturer assistant class that obtained 89% with very good category. Based on this development research, it can be concluded that Domano Card media is valid, effective, and practical use as a means of self-learning exercises for students in Trigonometry courses.

Abstract

The science process skill is important for teachers. However, not all of the student teachers have the competency, experience, and passion to science. The students of PGSD UKSW come from many kinds of background of middle schools that makes them have some different experiences in science competencies. The specific identification is needed to compare their science understanding/ comprehension. Their daily menu (diet) is the proper way to identify the students’ science understanding, because it is an activity that all people have done. The purpose of this research is to identify the students’ science comprehension through daily consumption patterns based on Home Science Process Skill (HSPS), modified from the science process skill steps used at home. HSPS has some advantages, as it makes the student enjoy their science learning and find the basic of knowledge from daily life. The survey methodology was used to find detailed facts about the level of science understanding. The data triangulation were gathered through questionnaires, interviews, and observations, that describe HSPS indicators, consisting of: scrutiny, note down, try out, create, tell (cermati, catat, coba, cipta, cerita). The results showed that 74.07% of the students encounter difficulty especially in the create phase, in which they have to try and create scientific products. It was also found that the highest difficulty was at the the try out and create phase. Thus, the level of student science understanding is still low. The conclusion is an initial stage of an action research to increase every HSPS indicators achievements.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to see what variables exist in widyaiswara competencies which influence their performance as training participants. This is a quantitative approach with analytical methods in the form of analytical statistics. The analysis technique is multiple linear regression. The results of the analysis shows that not all variables in widyaiswara competencies affect the training participants' performance. Competence that has a direct influence is the competence of systematic presentation, presentation ability, and answering questions. Personality competency and social competence are not influential on the performance of participants.
