Abstract

Shortest product cycle time is a key criterion for job sequencing and measuring competitiveness among entrepreneurial-based firms. Now, the long waiting time of job orders constitutes a deterministic production line problem in vehicle number plate production plants in Nigeria. Case studies were conducted on those plants, confidentially identified in this paper as A, B, C, and D. Delays caused by non-value-adding work processes are major culprits among other contributors to the long queues at these plants. The value stream mapping technique was applied to identify non-value adding activities before the production line was balanced using an effective cycle time model. The index cases to a balanced line, as shown in the results, are increases in process rate by 41 %, 59 %, 42 %, and 71 % for A, B, C, and D, respectively, and overall line efficiency. Next, the system capacities correspondingly increased with the elimination of wastages. These increments imply that bottleneck activities have been minimized, and we have a balanced production line. The devised solution procedure is reliable and recommended to other line manufacturing concerns that experience delays and bottleneck problems.

Abstract

The Assembly line is the assembly process that is carried out based on the order of the production process in the production line. The problem that is often found in assembly lines is bottleneck conditions where some material piled up at the station. This situation indicates an imbalance in the production line. The improvement of the work method is one of the effective ways that can increase line efficiency. This study presents an increase in line efficiency by improving working methods in a washing machine assembly line of PT.X. The study aimed to increase the value of line efficiency by improving work methods. In this study, improvements were made using the line balancing method and Eliminate, Combine, Rearrange, Simplify (ECRS) concept. The results that have been done, the obtained value of line efficiency for washing machine products is 76.76%. This value has not reached the company's productivity target of 99.50%. Therefore it is necessary to improve the assembling line to increase the value of product production. The proposed improvements made with improvements to the work methods on the assembling line obtained 89.38% results is to increase the amount of line efficiency by improving work methods.

Abstract

High lead time processing of acrylic resins leads to the production of products to consumer undergoes and high-production costs. This study aims to reduce lead time by analyzing various activities that have value-added, non-value-added, and necessary non-value-added. The research is conducted using lean manufacturing approaches on acrylic resin production processes. The analysis shows that the activity of delay and transportation is a contributor of waste that occurs in the production process of acrylic resins. Improvements by minimizing both activities in the are thining tank, reactor, and monomer tank can increase the efficiency of the production process. The improvement results show a decrease in lead time from 1298 minutes to 1075 minutes. This study demonstrates that lean manufacturing can improve the time process efficiency of 17.18%, which means the output ratio will increase by around 17.18% in a process.

Abstract

Based on the REBA analysis, there is a risky operator work postures in the warping work station at PT. Iskandar Indah Printing Textile because they do not use work tools. The assessment of the level of work posture risk by the REBA method gets the result that the highest work element with a final score of 10 is obtained by taking warp yarn at the warping station. This study aims to produce a design tool to reduce the level of work posture risk in warping work station operators. Then the design of tools was carried out by the Pahl and Beitz method to produce three alternative product design concepts. Based on the three ideas, the best plan is chosen by using an Engineering Design Selection, and the result is the second design concept. The selected design is an adjustable trolley with a vertical screw drive system that is comfortable to use and does not cause a bending position on the operator because it has a trolley plate that can be adjusted in height as needed. The use of the trolley causes a decrease in the level of work posture risk from a high-risk level to a small risk level with a final score of 10 to 3.

Abstract

The development of the industry that is increasingly making businesses try to be competitive by increasing technical knowledge and improving systems both internally and externally. PDCA is a quality management system that is used as a continuous improveĀment tool that is widely used in the service and manufacturing sectors. PDCA activities consist of four steps namely Plan, Do, Check, and Action with repeated stages forming like a circle. PDCA is a continuous improvement tool that is widely used in the services and manufacturing sector. The cycle of PDCA begins with small to check possible effects on systems, but then eventually progresses to larger and more specific improvements. The results of the implementation PDCA method can be used to solve the problems of qualitative and quantitative data problems that have been widely applied in the service and manufacturing sectors for continuous improvement and as a work pattern in improving a process or system in an organization and increasing productivity. The method used in this research is the literature review research paper has been published in 2015-2020 that have consistently applied the PDCA cycle. The result of this literature review is to describe the relationship between thinking or gaps in theoretical and practical thinking about the application of the PDCA method and the successful implementation in the service and manufacturing sectors as a contribution to further research.

Abstract

Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) is the single source producer of the NC212i Aircraft. Almost every Aircraft is delivered to the customer over the deadline date. The existence of waste is believed to be one of causing the late delivery. Based on observations of the 117th NC212i Aircraft assembly line, which is precisely at the fuselage assembly in the paneling group, six wastes are identified: waiting, transportation, overprocessing, inventory, and motion. Waste of overproduction does not occur because PTDI applies MTO (Make to Order) system. These 6 wastes are then processed using Waste Assessment Model (WAM). The ranking result is: first place is 25% for defects, second place is 23% for waiting, third place is 17% for motion, fourth place is 15% for inventory, fifth place is 13% for transportation, sixth place is 8% for overprocessing, and seventh place is 0% for overproduction. Three critical wastes based Pareto principle can be minimized, so the delay of aircraft delivery can be reduced.

Abstract

This study aims to find a set of vehicles routes with the minimum total transportation time for pharmaceutical distribution at PT. XYZ in West Jakarta. The problem is modeled as the capacitated vehicle routing problem (CVRP). The CVRP is known as an NP-Hard problem. Therefore, a simulated annealing (SA) heuristic is proposed. First, the proposed SA performance is compared with the performance of the algorithm form previous studies to solve CVRP. It is shown that the proposed SA is useful in solving CVRP benchmark instances. Then, the SA algorithm is compared to a commonly used heuristic known as the nearest neighborhood heuristics for the case study dataset. The results show that the simulated Annealing and the nearest neighbor algorithm is performing well based on the percentage differences between each algorithm with the optimal solution are 0.03% and 5.50%, respectively. Thus, the simulated annealing algorithm provides a better result compared to the nearest neighbour algorithm. Furthermore, the proposed simulated annealing algorithm can find the solution as same as the exact method quite consistently. This study has shown that the simulated annealing algorithm provides an excellent solution quality for the problem.
