Jurnal Studi Komunikasi (Indonesian Journal of Communications Studies), one of the journals published by Faculty of Communications Science Dr. Soetomo University, was established in January 2017. Jurnal Studi Komunikasi a double blind peer-reviewed journal, explores critical and constructive inquiries into a wide range of fields of study on Communication Science that include culture, religion, media, gender, public policy, development, environment, disaster, and tourism, with emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches: Communication Studies. It addresses issues with multi-perspectives view. Each volume of the journal discusses a specific theme based on “Call for Papers”, through which scholars, from diverse disciplines, are invited to contribute. Jurnal Studi Komunikasi published on March, July, and November.

Abstract

This study focuses on the description of Promotion marketing mix used by the Department of Culture and Tourism Raja Ampat. This research is interesting because it is a means of marketing communications for the company in order to inform the products to be introduced to tourists, persuade and improve the consumer directly or indirectly about the services they offer. This study aimed to describe the promotion mix used the Department of Culture and Tourism Raja Ampat. In order to know that the Department of Culture and Tourism Raja Ampat has managed to reach the desired rating. The method used in this study using in-depth interview, the quotation in question and answer activities between researchers and resource speakers. With respect to achieving success in the marketing process, the Department of Culture and Tourism Raja Ampat using promotion mix include advertising, sales promotion, public relations, personal selling, direct marketing, and internet marketing. Keywords: Promotion mix, tourists, Department of Culture and Tourism Raja Ampat

Abstract

Today, there are many advanced transportation tools developed and created by humans in order to meet all the elements of satisfaction in the human self itself. As in Indonesia itself recently will be built rapid train from Jakarta to the city of Bandung. This is one of the qualified facilities that are expected to fulfill the needs of the society in transportation. But behind it all there are some means of transportation where people are not too interested in all sophistication of technology, but has an artistic, iconic and unique value to use. "Angkot Gaul", so the people of Padang City call it and by the drivers make this transport not only deliver passengers to the destination but has a good point of view to use. Like the car modification, Angkot Gaul is known not only in the city of Padang but also national. So with the uniqueness owned Angkot Gaul is eventually used as a packaging that can increase sales of services well and of course the value of satisfaction both by the driver himself and passengers. What is the iconic value and uniqueness of this public transport? The researcher is looking at the meaning of semiotics using the theory of Charles Sanders Pierce which contained the value of semiotics that contained its meaning on Angkot Gaul Padang City in terms of language, color, music and stickers modified by the driver of Angkot Gaul.

Abstract

Television is a mass communication media that is still in demand by the public to get information and entertainment. Although the era of cyber that grows social media is in sight, but television is the audiovisual media is the easiest convergence so that in the future any television remains connected to social media. Therefore, television will be a priority medium for the industry to market its products or services. Along with that television became the trust of the traditional health care industry to market its products and services. While some of the traditional health care industry is suspected of violating government regulations that prohibit its existence to publish and advertisement. The Indonesian Broadcasting Commission has the responsibility and authority to oversee the availability of such advertisements because the law authorises them. But apparently, the supervision is not effective, proven advertising of traditional health services increasingly rampant in television. This is because the KPI does not have the authority to impose sufficient sanctions to broadcasters so as to create a deterrent effect. Besides, it turns out that advertising from traditional health services is the primary income currently for television media, especially local television. The government is also facing a similar dilemma to impose severe sanctions because traditional health services still have a place in society. There needs to be a law-level regulation that can accommodate the problem

Abstract

It is generally considered that knowing one language is not enough in this era. People need to learn a second language in addition to their mother tongue to meet the demand of today’s life as many of them are becoming a part of multilingual society as well as to face the globalisation. This paper aims to demonstrate the reasons of people learning a second by looking at the several goals they want to achieve in current situation and link it to the second language learning in education context. Subsequently, it also provides some criticism against the majority of English language teachings that set native speaker’s competence as the ultimate goal and highlights the concept of L2 user as a new paradigm and its implication to second language learning.

Abstract

Halal tourism destination becomes the new brand for West Nusa Tenggara. Strong local ethnic and religious plurality obtain halal tourism label. It is important to assess if the government saw the domination of the discourse object of power through the economic and tourism sectors. Therefore, this discourse halal tourism can be evaluated using the perspective of post-modern social theory Michael Foucault discourse and power: the power elite that is capable of creating a new discourse (halal tourism) to strengthen its political dominance. Then, using the perspective of Baudrillard's theory of the emergence of consumerist society in NTB as a result of capital commodification and domination of the capitalists. Keywords: Commodification, Discourse, Tourism, Halal

Abstract

Sigmund Freud is a psychologist who develops dynamic psychology. In this case, Freud develops the personality that shapes man. In a book written by Calvin S. Hall entitled Naluri Kekuasaan. The book describes the Freud from history about himself to the composition of personality. Sigmund Freud put forward the Theory of Psychoanalysis as the formation of human personality or the development of the psychiatric.

Abstract

Indonesian Halal Tourism became a raising mode to attract Muslim Tourist by Ministry of Tourism Republic Indonesia. Indonesia, as a non-Muslim country by nation ideology, tries to highlight the spiritual spirit of Islam as a culture to attract more tourists and put it into physical practice by having more tourism hospitalities; such as Halal Hotel that has Halal certification, which provides less or even none of alcohol beverages and serves only food based on Halal dietary. Indonesia in developing tourism brand of “Indonesia The Halal Wonders” would possibly lead into positive and negative possibilities. This article used literature review to reach data about Halal tourism in Indonesia. It has a tendency for tourism halal markets to lose the customers that are not Muslim travellers.Keywords: Halal Tourism, Indonesia, Muslim, Tourist

Abstract

 This research aim to show the internet from cyberthopia perspective to discribe that the dogma in the society such as technologi as man extenions, It is not entirely true. To support this research,  ten indonesian statrtup women, with income hundreds of millions per month, were chosen as the main object in this research. Furthermore, the results of this study show that the Internet has blurred the gender boundary between femininity and masculinity. The statement of the existence of a man is no longer fully valid with the great success that has been achieved by these ten business startup women as economic agents of the family without releasing identity as a female figure.

Abstract

In recent decades, the development of multicultural competence, or synonymously called intercultural competence (IC), has been developed as a theoretical context in education areas. Teachers’ inner reflection can do more in specific aspect of learning quality by understanding students’ cultural differences through intercultural competence understanding. Adding self-reflection in the process of understanding interaction within different cultures and language will add more self-value in lessen the ethnocentricity. As teachers are having different culture experience, they would share to each other about the differences to another teacher, in which it allows the teachers to reflect from one another. Abstract

The software is one of the essential tools in the learning process used in the modern era today, both for the improvement of technology and as a medium of learning. Fruity Loops is one of the learning media based on digital technology in the form of software used in writing and creating works or arrangements on the art of music in the way of partitions and audio. The structure of the creation of compositions and arrangements is an essential part of the art of music, mostly the value of harmonization created and felt in developing creativity in the art of music. Several things play a crucial role in the planning of the arrangement and composition, namely: (a) the form of musical composition, (b) primary ideas, (c) concepts, (d) patterns and methods of arrangement, (e) musical works. DIV Computer Multimedia at Stikom Surabaya which is the object of this research is one of the study programs which focus on film, television, and animation, so the purpose of learning through Fruity Loops is to develop the concept of sound in animation and film, and videos are original and do not violate copyright ethics, and serve as an introduction to learning based on Communication Technology.
