Abstract

This study has aims to describe the profile of junior high school students’ Thinking in Solving math problems. The subjects of this research are three students of high, medium and low in mathematical ability. Thinking profile of students described as follows: Understanding the problem, students received information by reading problems, then they recalled, processed, and stored information. Devising a plan, students processed, stored, and recalled information. Carrying out the plan, students recalled, processed, and stored information. Looking back, students stored information by performing a repletion of steps looking back.

Abstract

This study aim to develop an application using visual basic programming to facilitate the formation of cooperative groups and to investigate the validity, effectiveness, and practicality of the development of this application. This research method including R&D performed with 6 stage, consists of: the potential and problems, data collection, product design, design validation, improved of design, and test products. The results showed that the yield of the IT media expert validation amounted to 82.5% and validation of learning experts is 92.86%. In addition, the results of the questionnaire responses test of subjects each amounted 83.33% for the first test subjects and 91.67% for the second test subjects. Seeing these findings, it can be concluded that the application of cooperative learning group formation using visual basic can be said to be very feasible to be used as a tool for the establishment of cooperative learning groups.

Abstract

This research aimed to describe student learning outcomes trough implementation of Islamic Math Character and explain whether of Islamic Math Character can improve student learning outcomes in subject Calculus I. This research is an action research which uses a classroom action research with spiral model. Each cycle consist of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subject were Calculus I students of mathematics education department. The research results of student learning the material functions through the application of mathematics with Islamic Math Character proved a significant increase of the value of the average of student mastery learning at pre-action only amounted to 63.78 by 31,11%. At the first cycle, the average value of student mastery learning increased to 70.33 by 57.78%. At the second cycle, the average value of student mastery learning becomes 75.44 by 100%.

Abstract

This research aims to determine differences in mathematical critical thinking skills between students who obtain mathematics learning using Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Guided Inquiry model. The research method used quasi-experimental with matching-only posttest-only control group design which implemented in one of the Junior High School of Yogyakarta. The instrument used is a valid test instrument namely posttest with descriptive evaluation. The result of this research showed that there is a difference of mathematical critical thinking skills between students who obtain mathematics learning using PBL model and students who obtain mathematics learning using guided inquiry model. Furthermore, the average of mathematical critical thinking skills between a student who obtains mathematics learning using problem based learning model is higher than students who obtain mathematics learning using guided inquiry model.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe students learning trajectory to solving math problems based on student’s ability. The subject is 4th-gradestudents of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) K.H. Mas Mansyur Surabaya. The results obtained by learning trajectory are (1) high ability students, expressing the understanding of the problem orally and writing, plan two solutions process, choose to use multiples and sum between departure time and travel time, the subject re-examine every step in solving the problem. (2) medium ability students, expressing an understanding of the problem orally, planning a solution and implementing it until finding a solution, in re-examining the subject using factoring; and (3) low-ability students, expressing an understanding of the problem orally, planning a solution to finding a solution, then simply re-examining the steps taken in solving the problem.

Abstract

This research describes reasoning behind gender difference on problem solving. Subject of this reseach are two grade VIII students (male and female). Data in this research was analyzed using time triangulation. The reasoning based on student’s logic. Result of this study indicates that profile of reasoning junior high school students in solving math problems. For male, (1) understanding problems given, (2) linking the problems with the understanding of previously owned, (3) linking understanding possessed by the problems, and (4) conducting re-examination of the results obtained, but for female, (1) understanding the given problem, (2) planning problem solving by linking the formula that has been owned by the problems encountered, (3) implementing a plan of problem solving and reveal the reasons to use the formula, and (4) checking the solution obtained by checking the answer back.

Abstract

The research of Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) uses a qualitative approach with case studies. The purpose of this research is to obtain the Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) of prospective teachers of mathematics in terms of academic ability. Data were analyzed in the form of documents and interview with the subjects were prospective teachers of mathematics in IAIN Tulungagung and STKIP PGRI Tulungagung. The results showed that a group of students with excellent academic ability and a group of students with good academic ability, content knowledge, knowledge of teaching, and knowledge of students are relatively same. Most of the content knowledge at level 1, knowledge of teaching at level 2, and knowledge of students at level 1. While the group of students with academic ability can reasonably be concluded that content knowledge at level 0, knowledge of teaching at level 1, and knowledge of students at level 1.

Abstract

This research was conducted at 2 students of SMPK Anak Bangsa Surabaya grade VIII. Subjects were selected based on the basic of equal mathematics ability. Data was collected using provision of problem-solving and task-based interview. Data was analysed using data reduction steps, data presentation, and conclusions. Meanwhile, to obtain valid research data in this study, researchers used time triangulation. The results indicated that in the number 1 problem of identifying patterns, the subjects of men and women tend to have similarities in stating what is known and asked the question, but the male students are more specific to explain the magnitude of the difference between the first quantity Followed by increased differences in other quantities. Related activities determine the relationship between two quantities, male subjects and women subject tend to have similarities in how to determine the relationship between two quantities that is by trial and error using existing mathematical operations. It can be concluded that the functional way of thinking both subjects is relatively the same. Its just that the male subject is more specific in finding the difference between the two quantities and finding the correspondence relationship between the quantities

Abstract

This research aimed to describe the profile of the visualizer and verbalizer students to think analytically in solving mathematical problems. The subjects were 3 visualizer students and 3 verbalizer students obtained by VVQ questionnaire. The research data are the form of analytical thinking tests and interviews were then analyzed based on the indicators of analytical thinking in solving mathematical problems based on the stage Polya. The results obtained by the visualizer students mention known and asked by picture, modelize problem by picture, use any different strategies, and conclude by picture. In other hand, verbalizer students mention known and asked by words, modelize problem by word (symbol or alphabet), use same strategy, and conclude by words. In the final result, there is no difference ability between the visualizer and verbalizer students cognitive style to think analytically in solving the problem because both are quite good.
