Abstract

Sea water treatment technology into freshwater is known as desalination. a desalination technique that is both effective and economical is desalination with evaporation. This study aims to determine the effect of roofing materials on the amount of freshwater products produced. The study was conducted using a miniature evaporative tub that has a roof-like shape. Evaporative tubs measuring 1m x 1m x 0.02m material of laminated wood. 20 liters of brackish water is pumped into the tub. The water in the tub is then closed using a roof designed like a roof made of fiberglass and polycarbonate. Brackish water is left in contact with the sun for 24 hours. As a result of heat transfer from sunlight to evaporation tub, brackish water experiences evaporation. The steam moves upward and is captured by the roof wall then undergoes condensation resulting in fresh water. The conclusion obtained is miniature of evaporative desalination roof using fiberglass material obtained 427 mL result while using polycarbonate material obtained fresh water equal to 136 mL.

Abstract

Siltation of the river, ditches, reservoirs in urban areas is a problem because it causes flooding. The government annually undertakes dredging of the precipitate for the flow of water to flow smoothly. Soil sedimentary water potential to be utilized as a medium of planting in the development of urban agriculture. The research was conducted by survey method in Surabaya city waters. The sample was taken using random method of choosing, that is choosing condition of place environment and soil condition which is possible for planting medium. Soil sediment samples were observed for pH, color, structure, texture, organic matter content, Nitrogen (N-total), K2O and P2O5. The result of this research shows that all of the textured sedimentary soil content of clay is 89,87- 92,14%, organic material content is about 5,96-7,60%, total N-content is 0,09-0,13%, K2O content between 0,88-1,12%, and P2O5 content between 2,08-2,44%. The color of soil was grayish-black-black. The mud deposits of the housing sewer are the most crumbling and the most consumptive reservoir are sludge. Sewage soil sludge is potentially used as a planting medium in the development of urban agriculture.

Abstract

The Banana is the most widely produced fruit in Indonesia with waste of banana peel about 1/3 of the fruit. If the banana peel is not utilized in large quantities it will cause environmental problems and is a waste of resources because the waste can still be utilized. The Banana peel contains a variety of compounds such as pectin 10-21%. Based on its content, banana peels have potential as a source of pectin. Pectin can be utilized in various industries of making jelly, jam, gelling, thickener, stabilizer andemulsifier. The purpose of this study was to find the influence of ultrasonic and mass on pectin yield. This research was conducted by using ultrasonic method extraction using 0.05 N HCl solvent of 400 mL and extraction temperature of 60 oC. variation of mass in this research are 5, 10, 20, 30 and 40 grams. The highest yield obtained in ultrasonic method is 20.0008 gram with yield of 25,59%. The conventional method only can reach 18,3%.

Abstract

Increasing the need for pure hydrogen in the industry is growing. One of its roles is in purification of petroleum industry. High purity hydrogen (99.99%) was obtained from methane using the steam methane reforming method in the hydrogen plant unit. Hydrogen is a very dangerous chemical element with its flammable properties. This research is conducted especially on purification system. Quantitative analysis is used to determine the frequency of hydrogen leakage, consequence modeling, and risk estimation that will be generated. The results of the analysis show that the highest frequency occurs in unignited release events. The jet fire scenario produces the longest fire length in the HPU about 27 meters. The jet fire scenario impact produces the farthest secure distance in the case of a leak in the HPU section of 60 meters. The flash fire produces the farthest distance loss in a leakage case in the HPU of 80 meters, and explosion at a radius of 200 meters will have a blast overpressure 7.62 psig with 22% fatality estimation of the population.

Abstract

The biggest problem currently in Indonesia is the amount of garbage that accumulates and is not controlled anywhere, especially organic waste. There are also many methods to use waste. One of waste utilization is Biogas. Organic content contained in organic waste can be used as a substart source for anaerobic bacteria. Initial treatment of organic waste in this study used as a variable, namely chopped and blended. This initial treatment is done before it is mixed with other ingredients, ie cattle dung and water. 200% water is added to the reactor along with other variables. Temperature, pH and biogas volume were observed for 30 days. Initial treatment factor of organic waste as biogas production substand showed blend treatment with decay having higher biogas production than others, is 189.99 cm3 with a composition ratio of 50% cattle dung and 50% organic waste.

Abstract

Transportation problem is just like inventory, this is an activity in logistics area. This activity is possible to make some production in one place and to consume them in another place. The aim of this research were to evaluate the existing network distribution model performance and to provide sugestions to proper the network distribution model used. The applied metode to achieve the goal was Nearest Neighbor Algorithm. The results were: (a) Distance saving was 538,2 Km or 26,59%, (b) Distribution time of product could be reduced to 9,37 hours or 19,07%, (c) Fuel cost could be reduced to 403.650 rupiahs or 26,59%, (d) Driver and assistance cost could be saved to 272.850 rupiahs or 4,5%, and (f) Total of distribution cost could be saved to 676.500 rupiahs or 25,71%.

Abstract

Rice bran as rice milling waste is very promising to be used as raw material of oil producer such as biodiesel oil. The production process with the assistant of microwaves has been studied in this research. The production process was carried out in-situ where the extraction process of rice bran oil and the biodiesel formation reaction occur simultaneously in microwave radiation. Rice bran was obtained from Lamongan area with IR 64 type. The reaction was carried out in microwaves that had been modified by variation of operating conditions including reaction times (10, 30 and 50 min) and weight ratio of rice bran to methanol (1:4, 1:8, 1:12, 1:16 and 1:20). The results obtained are then analyzed by product yield and free fatty acid content. The optimum condition is obtained when the highest yield of the product with the lowest free fatty acid. The results showed that the optimum condition was obtained at reaction time of 30 minutes with the ratio of rice bran: methanol at 1:12.

Abstract

The energy crisis demands the development of an alternative energy that can meet daily needs. The existence of rice straw biomass waste and corncob is a potential to be utilized as bioenergy in the briquettes form. This research was conducted to develop and test the characteristics of biomass briquettes as alternative fuels. Biomass used in this research is rice straw and corn cob. The making of briquettes is done by carbonation and compaction with starch adhesive by 10%. To know the best quality of briquettes, a mixture of rice straw (100%) was used, mixed rice straw: corncobs (25%: 75%, 50%: 50%, and 75%: 25%), and corncobs (100 %). Test parameters used are ash content, volatile matter content, and calorific value. The results showed that briquettes from corncobs were the best briquettes from ash content and volatile matter content of 9.52% and 9.7% respectively. While based on calorific value, briquettes with highest heating value is rice straw briquettes that is equal to 3562 Kcal / kg but has the highest volatile matter and ash content which can decrease the quality of briquette.

Abstract

The scarcity of energy sources, especially fuel oil (BBM) has become a world problem. The abundant cattle dung in the community has not been optimally utilized. In addition, the Tannery Industry (IPK) has not been optimally utilized. The aim of this research is to know the effect of speed and duration of stirring to biogas volume and final BOD concentration on cow manure biogas mixturetannery industry wastewater (IPK). The experiment used biodigester reactor as much as 5 pieces, 1 as the controller without stirring and 4 others as the test digester with stirring. IPK 0 as a control digester without stirring. Variation of stirring speed 5 and 10 rpm and stirring time 10 and 15 minutes. The volume of biogas is measured for 20 days. BOD levels are measured on the last day of the fermentation process. The experiment showed that the highest biogas volume was found on PK10L10 test digester that was mixture of cow manureandtannery industry wastewater (IPK) with variation of 10 rpm and duration of stirring 10 minutes ie 0.904 m3, and the lowest biogas volume was 0,158 m3in IPK0 digester. The highest decrease in BOD content was 20% in PK10L15 digester and the lowest decrease IPK0 digester was 4%. The stirring process has a significant effect on biogas production and decrease of BOD concentration in the digester.

Abstract

Improving students’ satisfaction to the subjects team teaching of ITS Technology Management Department needs to do assessment using Gap Analysis. It was chosen to find out the expectation and reality that students felt to academic service provided by subject team teaching. The expertise areas that this department has are: Industrial Management, Project Management, and Information Technology Management. Total subjects are 23 pursued by 2nd, 3rd, and 4th semester students who were research respondents. The data processing results show that there were 17 subjects with valid data. Enhancements needed to improve students’ satisfaction are by implementating midterm exam, final exam, and task (presentation) on schedule, giving lecture material according to the expertises, giving clear and understandable lecture material, giving subjects literature, performing objective and transparent assessment, explaining lesson plan, holding lecture on schedule, being able to understand students’ characteristic, being available for discussion outside the class meetings, accepting criticism and suggestion.
