Abstract

People who study religion are no longer limited to religious leaders who have direct scientific legitimacy. However, it can be done independently through the internet or social media. Religious narratives that develop on the internet or social media can caontradict one another, such as narratives about religious moderation. This study aims to map the contestation of religious moderation narratives that develop on social media and to see religious ideologies that reject the concept of religious moderation on social media. This study uses a qualitative approach and descriptive method, data collection techniques using document studies from posts on Instagram. The findings of this study show that the narratives that support about religious moderation include the definition of religious moderation, the characteristics of moderate people, the urgency of religious moderation, examples of moderate behavior in religion, religious moderation in Islam, religious moderation in Buddhism, principles of religious moderation, local wisdom and religious moderation, and steps taken by the Ministry of Religion to strengthen religious moderation. Meanwhile, the narrative that rejects religious moderation is in the form of explaining that religious moderation as a half-hearted religion, contrary to Islam, not including kaffah Islam, is a western product, hinders the rise of Muslims, hinders the establishment of the caliphate.

Abstract

This study aims to determine how the judge’s sociological perspective affected his ruling in the nusyūż case due to the occurrence of domestic violence (KDRT). The study's research topics are: (1) how are the arguments of the judges of the Religious High Court (PTA) in deciding cases of nusyūż due to domestic violence; and (2) How do judges’ sociological perspectives argue when making decisions in cases of domestic violence in the PTA. The data is derived from the Palembang Religious High Court decision No.21/Pdt.G/2018/PTA.Plg and the Banjarmasin Religious High Court decision No.44/Pdt.G/2019/PTA.Bjm, both of which were obtained from the Supreme Court of Indonesia’s website. Data were analyzed utilizing juridical and sociological approach through content analysis. The study’s findings revealed that the understanding of the husband’s superiority over his wife was a factor in the occurrence of Domestic Violence, as seen in PTA Palembang and Banjarmasin decisions, which was caused by frequent quarrels/bickering between husband and wife, which led to violence against the wife both physically and verbally. The passage of the Qur’an surah an-Nisa/4:34 discussing the completion of a wife’s nusyūż by hitting has influenced public perception, granting validity to a husband’s beating of his wife.

Abstract

Alms is one of the prophetic teachings that can be seen in various text books of the Prophet’s hadith sources. The reception of the meaning of hadith which is actualized by Muslims with various religious practices is referred to as living hadith. One of them is the massulakka tradition to the Imam Lapeo charity box which is located on the side of the Trans-Sulawesi road, Nuruttaubah Lapeo mosque, Lapeo Village, Campalagian District, Polewali Mandar Regency, West Sulawesi Province. The research method is qualitative based on the results of interviews and observations. The main speakers were Imam Lapeo's grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Annangguru Hisham and Annangguru Zuhriah. Meanwhile, the sources of the experience of the massulakka community were taken in a random from the Polewali Mandar community, a total of 20 people from outside the region. This research is also based on library data such as books, journals and social media data. The approach used is the living hadith, while the analytical model uses reception theory and Shutz’s motivation theory, namely because of motive (past causes) and in order of motive (future causes). The result of his research is that the massulakka tradition is a living hadith phenomenon which is motivated by the figure of Imam Lapeo who teaches alms as the teachings of the Prophet. The benefits of giving charity become evident in the person of Imam Lapeo in the form of hospitality such as getting safety and spaciousness of sustenance. After death, the community as the in-order motive in carrying out the massulakka tradition to the charity box at the Imam Lapeo location has the motivational goal of being able to resist reinforcements, invite sustenance, calm the soul. The proceeds from the charity box are used for the benefit and development of Islamic society such as the empowerment of mosques and orphanages managed by the administrators of the Lapeo Nuruttaubah Mosque. Theoretically, the use of Shutz’s theory of motivation is relatively new in Living Hadith, so this research adds to the discourse on the need to build a solid theoretical episteme in the study of Living Hadith

Abstract

The new religious movement is caused by a value crisis among young people, which results in alienation and contributes to the current spiritual crisis. The emergence of Islam United as a response to this problem with a new face, namely the millennial face in accordance with the needs of young people and the recurring trend of migration. Utilizing young people as a marketplace for various goods and ideologies is most profitable. In this phase, according to developmental theory, people are frequently confronted with a psychological crisis, including anxiety about the future, spirituality, success, mate, and others. This study employs ethnographic descriptive qualitative research methods. The Observatory Participant is a tool used by researchers to gather information by involving the social community members directly. Yogyakarta represents the new face of the religious movement and social piety of young people in urban areas, which is Muslim United. This religious movement is not only focused on increasing religiosity, but also profit-oriented with concrete activities in the form of religious studies, such as the Satnight study and the Sunrise study, which investigate aqidah, fiqh, hadith science, and the history of prophethood. Then the most important and urgent issue is commodification. The commodification of religion has become a crucial topic of discussion for altering the religiosity of Muslim United youths. In addition to studying, Muslim United youth alter their appearance by consuming the organization's religious products. After completing the study, they select the most suitable Islamic products, beginning with Rumah Warna merchandise owned by Muslim United, such as skullcaps, t-shirts, hats, hoodie jackets, scarves, waistbags, books, neck pillows, tumbler bikes, joggers, backpacks, and others

Abstract

This article examines the trend of hijrah among young Muslims by taking the case of the participants at the Nurul Iman Mosque, Blok M Square, Jakarta. They actively participate in regular Islamic learning held at the mosque and frame their participation as a form of hijra (migration) to the Salafi path. Our study draws on an anthropological approach by conducting participatory observation and in-depth interview. We explore the young Muslim motivations and initial introduction to Salafism. We examine how they view hijrah and how they practice it in their individual and social lives. The result of this research shows that the Salafi youths view hijrah as a process to become better Muslims. In practice, they have applied the teachings of Salafism in their everyday lives in terms of behaviour, dressing, and interaction. The narrations of the Salafi youths suggest that they have undertaken various forms of negotiations in practicing their hijrah
