Abstract

Myth and contra myth always exist in human beings life. Hence, both of them also exist in literary work. The existence of myths and contra myths in literary work can always be freedom or concerned. In the two short stories “Numbai” and “Lukah yang Tergantung di Dinding”, the myths are also presented by the authors and are attempted to be freedom by the new myths or contra myths. By applying structural analysis, the intrinsic elements of the myth and contra myth will be discovered. In these two short stories, the myths were presented from the beginning of the story and each of intrinsic elements supports the existence of myths. The myths are strengthened by the accidents that undergone by the main characters, as the agent who destroys myth. The meanings that can be taken from these two short stories are children must obey their parents.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the communication patterns of “Shihab & Shihab” on Narasi TV with the episode of "Muslim and Christian Brothers". This study uses a type of qualitative research with ethnographic of communication method. To collect data, observation and documentation were conducted. Data analysis was performed using content analysis from Spradley. The results of the study indicate that tiered clarification system or tabayyun is very important to do in our life, particularly in the revolutional industry 4.0. This phenomenon is reflected in the communication patterns carried out by Najwa Shihab, Quraish Shihab, and Priest Budi in Narasi TV. Ethnography of communication well-known as SPEAKING by Hymes in the form of settings, participants, ends, acts, keys, instruments, norms, and genres are the reasons why the communication pattern uses a tiered clarification system.AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pola komunikasi “Shihab & Shihab” pada Narasi TV episode “Muslim dan Nasrani Bersaudara”. Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan etnografi komunikasi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan observasi dan dokumentasi. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan analisis isi model Spradley. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sistem klarifikasi berjenjang terhadap sesuatu sangat penting di dalam kehidupan, terutama di zaman revolusi industri 4.0. Fenomena itu terefleksikan dari pola komunikasi yang dilakukan Najwa Shihab, Quraish Shihab, dan Romo Budi. Etnografi komunikasi SPEAKING Hymes yang berupa setting, partisipant, ends, acts, key, instruments, norm, dan genre menjadi alasan pola komunikasi itu menggunakan sistem klarifikasi berjenjang.

Abstract

This article studies realisms in a short story entitled “Bulan Gendut di Tepi Gangsal” written by Wa Ode Wulan Ratna. The aim of this study is to know and to describe the characteristics in short story  “Bulan Gendut di Tepi Gangsal” written by Wa Ode Wulan Ratna. The use of content analysis method focusing on the text of the short story explains the meaning of the content of symbolic interaction taking place during the communication in the story so that the content could be well understood. The research findings show that there are 8 characteristics of realism in a short story entitled “Bulan Gendut di Tepi Gangsal”.  Tulisan ini mengkaji realisme dalam cerita pendek “Bulan Gendut di Tepi Gangsal” karya Wa Ode Wulan Ratna. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dan mendeskripsikan ciri-ciri aliran realisme yang terdapat dalam karya sastra Indonesia bergenre cerita pendek berjudul BGTG karya Wa Ode Wulan Ratna. Penggunaan metode analisis isi yang memberikan perhatian pada teks karya sastra menjelaskan makna isi interaksi simbolik yang terjadi dalam peristiwa komunikasi, sehingga dapat dipahami isi cerpen itu secara tepat.  Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada tujuh karakteristik realisme dalam cerita pendek “Bulan Gendut di Tepi Gangsal”.

Abstract

This study is aimed at describing the fantasy of the characters in the children stories entitled Misteri Pedang Skinheald: Sang Pembuka Segel and Misteri Pedang Skinheald II: Awal Petualangan Besar by Ataka Awwallur Rizqi. The subjects of the research were two children stories. They were entitled  Misteri Pedang Skinheald: Sang Pembuka Segel and Misteri Pedang Skinheald II: Aw al Petualangan Besar by Ataka Awwallur Rizqi. The objects of the research were the fantasy  character in both children stories. The study used intrinsic approach. It is an approach applying close reading of the stories with an emphasis on the determinations of the fantasy  character. The analysis was done by making categories, data tabulation, and verbal description. These phases were then continued by making inferences, such as a profound comprehension, a comparison between one inference and the other, and conclusion drawing. The results of the research are as the following: First, the character contains the flat character and round character. Second, there are elements of fantasy which support the story events such as magics, supernatural swords, and supernatural capabilities inside the characterization.

Abstract

This research contains a comparative study on two printed drama scripts of Bernard Shaw’s “Pygmalion”. Here, the discussion covers a study toward two scripts published in 1957 and 2000, in the perspective of philology that demonstrates both textology and codicology. The objective of this research is to reveal the variation of Pygmalion printed scripts published in those two different years, 1957 and 2000. Eventually, through the analysis conducted to those two scripts, it is found that there are similarity and distinction, in which the distinction is in a form of variations between them, that also leads to the background of why such a variation could possibly be emerged.

Abstract

Pembelajaran bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing yang merupakan representasi kebudayaan memiliki sejumlah kesulitan. Salah satu kesulitan itu berasal dari pengenalan bunyi. Sebuah cara alternatif untuk mengakomodasi masalah tersebut adalah dengan pengenalan bentuk onomatope. Onomatope menyediakan bermacam bunyi tiruan yang berbeda sebagai ikon lintas bahasa dan budaya untuk mengartikulasikan hal yang sama. Onomatope dapat berasal dari berbagai sumber, seperti komik, karikatur, novel, koran dan lain sebagainya. Onomatope dapat memberikan berbagai sudut pandang mengenai identitas kebahasaan dan kebudayaannya, setidaknya dalam bahasa Inggris, Indonesia, dan daerah.  Teaching English as a foreign language that is a representation of culture has some difficulties. One of the them comes from sounds recognition. An alternative way to accomodate the problem is by acknowledging an onomatopoeia. Onomatopoeia provides several different kinds of imitative sound as a cross cultures and language icon to articulate the same thing. Its sources can be taken from comics, caricatures, novels, newspapers, and others. Onomatopoeia could give various perspective of its cultural and language identity in English, Indonesia, and  local language.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe the forms and the meanings of  reduplication which is found in Jamal Jamilah novel written by Boma Kampau, one of the writers came from Kampar Regency. The method used in this research is a descriptive method. The result of the research showed that there are four forms of reduplication in this novel. They are      (1) full reduplication,  (2) part reduplication, (3) affix reduplication, and (4) reduplication with the changes of phonemes. There are three kinds of meaning in reduplication, the first meaning is indicated many meanings, the second is indicated repetition, and the third is indicated the meaning of the action which is done well, cassually and leisurely.

Abstract

The poem Surat Kapal that exists in the society  of  Indragiri Hulu, Riau has various pattern of poetry. In this research, the issue raised is how about the pattern and the way to  construct  the poetry of  Surat Kapal. The aim of this research is to identify the pattern and the way how to construct the poem. Theory used is the structuralism theory that see a literary work as a structure. This research is descriptive qualitative. The data used is the secondary data that taken from books and poems that written by readers in Surat Kapal. Through this research, it is known that the formation of this poem is carried out by  1) word choice (diction) and the word choice that has similar end phoneme, 2) syllables repetition or the same words, 3) the conversion of sentence structure, 4) code mixing in another language (Indonesian language and regional language), 5) the removal of  letters, and 6) the addition -nya (-nye) and -k.

Abstract

As a party leader who is good at rhetoric and vocabulary, Anas Urbaningrum has great ability to choose the most suitable words to deliver his opinion and ideas and to use effective, polite, and connotative words. The purpose of this study is to describe the rhetoric and diction at Anas Urbaningrum resignation speech as the chairman of the party. This study uses the qualitative research methods using the discourse analysis. The research findings of this study show that the speech delivered by Anas Urbaningrum when announcing his resignation as the chairman of Partai Demokrat contains connotation, denotation, scientific, popular, special, general, abstract and concrete diction.  Sebagai seorang pemimpin partai yang pandai beretorika dan luas kosakatanya, Anas Urbaningrum memiliki kemampuan yang tinggi untuk memilih setepat-tepatnya kata mana yang paling harmonis untuk mewakili maksud atau gagasannya serta menggunakan kata-kata yang efektif, santun, dan bermakna konotasi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan diksi dalam retorika Anas Urbaningrum dalam menyampaikan  pidato pengunduran dirinya sebagai Ketua Umum Partai Demokrat. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan teknik analisis wacana. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pidato pengunduran diri Anas Urbaningrum sebagai Ketua Umum Partai Demokrat menggunakan diksi konotasi, denotasi, ilmiah, populer, khusus, umum, abstrak, dan diksi konkret.

Abstract

The linguistic situation in the Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta is influenced by language contact, diglosia, and bilingualism because there are three languages in the community, namely Indonesian, regional, and foreign language. In this situation, there are linguistic symptoms such as code mixing and code switching, there is no exception to radio broadcaster’s language use. In fact, broadcaster is an agent who has an important role and influence in spreading of Indonesian in DIY. Therefore, this study discusses and describes how radio broadcaster’s language use in Daerah Khusus Yogyakarta and what factors influence it. This study is descriptive. The data in this study is radio broadcaster’s language use in several programs recorded in February—April 2017. The result of the analysis shows that broadcaster’s language use is influenced by nonlinguistic factors which include topic, participant, community participant, situation, goal, action, tone of voice, speech tool, and the norm of speaking. Topic plays a more dominant role than other nonlinguistic factors. The broadcaster uses formal Indonesian spoken speech and a little of code switching to Arabic when delivering serious topics, such as news topics. Meanwhile, the broadcaster use non-formal spoken Indonesian and more code switching, such as into English or Javanese when bringing relaxing events, such as entertainment topics.
