Abstract

AbstractThe research entitled “An Analysis ofIdeational Metaphor in Political Text: A Study of Systemic Functional Linguistics” is aimed to find out the ways the ideational metaphor is organized in Political text. The scope in which the studyis conducted ranges from the variety of processes used in political text. The analysis is conducted in accordance with the grand theories put forwarded by Halliday, Mathiesen, and Thompson, with some supportive theoretical background from Downing and Locke, and Eggins and some theories of metaphorin general.   The result of this research shows that the types of processes found in this research almost covers all the types of processes, namely: Material, Mental, verbal, and Relational Processes. Behavioural and existential were not found under the assumption that those types have little relevant to the process of  metaphorical wording.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate students’ perception towards the National Examination (Ujian Nasional/UN) and its positive and negative effects (washback). The study was a qualitative research using a survey method. It involved XII-grade students who had taken the examination from some vocational senior high schools in East Ciputat, South Tangerang, Banten, i.e. SMK Triguna Utama, SMK YMJ and SMK Moh. Husni Thamrin. A questionnaire was therefore constructed to elicit their beliefs, attitudes, behaviors and/or opinions regarding the UN. The findings showed almost all of the students believed that National Examination could increase their learning intensity, or, in other words, UN could motivate them to study harder. However, there was also revealed that the students doubted and questioned the effectiveness and importance of UN in creating better teaching learning process. These thus indicated that National Examination had positive as well as negative washback on teaching learning activities of  XII-grade students of some vocational senior high schools in South Tangerang.

It is not only the case for women having no power, intellectualism, and money, but also for ladies with authority and prosperity enabling her own to be an single individual with financial and time freedom. From the very first, it was depicted that she was viewed negatively by her own mother for being a female baby. Her intellectual is not worthy for boys and her mother. In her study, she was blamed for having her master, rather than early marriage. Finally, she was being accused of earning a lot of money, which normally becomes a prestigious achievement for men, by her boyfriend and her mother. She was in dilemma to choose between her dreamed profession or her marriage. The girl is a character who highly likely to represent other girls or women who are still defeated by the inequities of positioning a man-woman parallelism. Key words: One Indian Girl, post-feminist, dilemma

Indonesia’s education sector has been experiencing development, but the inclusive segment needs more support since the number of disabled students are rising while the readiness of schools to nurture them seems underperformed. In the west, it is common for school to have a collaborative consultation to overcome such problem. It interconnects collaborators in an equal position to reciprocally develop the best solution for existing problems. This paper aims to promote the term for education stakeholders in Indonesia.
