Abstract

ABSTRACT Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a collection of tools used by workers to protect part or all of their bodies from potential hazards or work accidents. Based on data from the International Labor Organization (ILO) 2018 every day more than 2.78 million deaths per year as a result of work accidents or work- related diseases. “Meanwhile, based on data from the Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Sosial (BPJS) for employment in Indonesia in 2018, there were 173,105 cases of work accidents”. The cause of the accident comes from human factors, there are many factors that cause work accidents, including factors of knowledge, attitudes, behavior in using PPE, as well as lack of information related to the risk of work accidents. This study used an analytic observational study design, with a cross sectional study design. The sampling technique was carried out by total sampling and statistically tested using the chi-square test. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes with the behavior of using PPE on oil palm harvesters at PT. X Rokan Hulu. The results of this study found that there was a relationship between the knowledge of PPE use and the behavior of using PPE on harvesters (p-value = 0.002), and a relationship between the attitude of using PPE and the behavior of using PPE (p- value = 0.047)

Abstract

Varied symptoms of Systemic lupus erythematosus make its diagnosis challenging. A 40 year old woman was admitted to the Emergency Room for self-talking, rambling and being rowdy. Psychiatric assessment showed an indication of organic hallucination. The patient had been undergoing neurologic treatment for four months due to multiple sclerosis with onset symptoms including of paraperese which was improved after taking steroids. In addition to neurologic symptoms, other conditions including mucous ulcers, malar rash, vasculitis, hair loss, and arthritis were found. The laboratory test indicated the presence of strong positive ANA profile in the RNP/Sm, Sm, SS-A native, Ro-52, SS-B and Ribosomal Protein. Patient’s condition significantly improved after undergoing treatment for Systemic lupus erythematosus flare with a coincidence of multiple sclerosis.

Abstract

Bacteria is one of the factors that cause infection. These infections can be treat with antibacterial compounds. Plants are one of the greatest sources of antibacterial compounds. Leaves of skunk vine (Paederia foetida L.) and sweet star fruit (Avverhoa carambola L.) are plant parts that commonly used traditionally as wound healing, anti-inflammatory, anti-diarrhea, etc. The purposes of this study were to determine the antibacterial activity of the ethanol extract of skunk vine leaves and sweet starfruit leaves and to determine minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against E. coli and S. aureus. Leaves of skunk vine and sweet star fruit were extracted with 96% ethanol. The ethanol extract of each plant was screened for their phytochemicals compound and tested for antibacterial activity. The antibacterial activity test was carried out by using the agar disc diffusion method. The results of the study showed that 500 mg/ml of ethanolic extract of skunk vine leaves and sweet star fruit leaves could inhibited the growth of E. coli bacteria around 28.29 mm and 21.50 mm. Meanwhile, both extracts in the same concentration showed inhibition zones against S. aureus around 24.45 mm and 22.53 mm. It showed that ethanol extract of skunk vine leaves has better antibacterial activities than ethanol extract of start fruit leaves. The MIC of skunk vine leaves extract on both bacteria was 200 mg/ml, while the MIC of sweet starfruit leaves ethanol extract for E. coli was 12.5 mg/ml and S. aureus was 25 mg/ml. This indicates that both ethanol extracts have antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus bacteria.

Abstract

Histopathological tissue examination with routine staining sometimes cannot provide a clear morphology of certain cells or tissues, therefore special staining techniques based on histochemical reactions are needed. Periodic Acid-Schiff's (PAS) is a histochemical staining method specifically used to detect the presence of polysaccharide carbohydrates, neutral mucins and other glycoproteins. This article was written with the aim of increasing knowledge for practitionersor clinicians regarding the PAS technique procedure and how it is used in diagnosis. The method of writing scientific papers is a literature review sourced from various journals, books and scientific articles that are relevant and in accordance with the topics discussed. The PAS technique procedure begins with fixation in 10% neutral buffer formalin, preparation of materials and reagents, PAS staining with counterstain and interpretation. The addition of diastase was performed before PAS stain for PAS/D, and Alcian Blue staining was performed before PAS stain for the AB/PAS technique. Errors at each stage will affect the results of PAS staining. The use of combined PAS and PAS techniques in pathological diagnosis is to exclude the differential diagnosis of various tumors containing glycogen and mucin, examine the thickness of the basement membrane in various diseases, and identify Jamur and amoeba in tissue infections.

Abstract

Based on the health profile of Sumatra Barat Province, the prevalence of hypertension sufferers in Sumatra Barat was almost close to the national figure. This indicates that hypertension in Sumatra Barat needs serious attention. Continuous treatment can be done by applying the DASH diet (Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension) by consuming potassium-rich foods like banana. Therefore, a study was conducted to determine the effect of giving Cavendish banana to decrease blood pressure in pre-hypertensive elderly in the working area of Puskesmas Nilam Sari. The study population was 38 pre-elderly people (45-59 years) using a purposive sampling technique as many as 20 pre-elderly people who met the inclusion criteria. The results showed that the average systolic value before giving Cavendish banana was 148.75 mmHg and the diastolic was 85.55 mmHg. The mean systolic value after giving Cavendish banana was 132.25 mmHg with the diastolic value was 72.25 mmHg. The p-value (0.0001<0.05) means that there was a significant effect on diastolic blood pressure in pre-elderly between before and after giving Cavendish banana. It can be concluded that the Cavendish banana can be used as an alternative diet for reducing blood pressure in pre-aged hypertension non-pharmacologically.
