Abstract

The local wisdom as perceived as particular knowledge is often contrasted to universal revealed knowledge of religion. This article is aimed at studying the local wisdom behind al-Qur`ân dan Terjemahnya Bahasa Banjar (the Qur`ân and Its Translation into Banjarese language), arguing that the two kinds of knowledge, either particular or universal, interact each other. Employing the ethics philosophy?s distinction between particular and universal, the discussion on the topic is focused on the description of local wisdom and the issues of particularity and universality, especially in relation to moral values embedded in cultural dimensions of the local language. The steps start from comparing Indonesian and Banjarese translation of some Qur`ânic vocabularies, then describing moral values in Banjarese culture in perceiving certain words, and finally searching for particular and universal dimensions of cultural ethics by comparing it with other ethics which is universally recognized. This article arrives at some conclusions. Firstly, the local wisdom is reflected in the forms of local moral values corresponding to the doctrines of the Qur`ân. Secondly, in relation to the idea of particularity and universality of moral values, the local wisdom behind this translation contains the two aspects, due to the fact that both dimensions constitute elements which interact with each other. The local values also underlay the use of local vocabularies. It means that the particular aspect of local wisdom transforms to universal one too. Besides, local wisdom does not only mean local knowledge but also means that it has a general affinity with other cultures.

Abstract

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the global agenda, agreed by world leaders in the United Nations. They are aimed at reducingpoverty, fighting inequality, and stopping the effects of climate change on the global environment. This paper discusses the concept of SDGs, consisted of 17 goals from the perspective of Islam Indonesia as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world. This literatures study used descriptive qualitative method. It is found that, the concepts of Islam are in line with the SDGs. Islam also has a way to fight poverty by doing zakat (charity), fasting, and a simple and healthy lifestyle, promoting fair rights between women and men and assurring equivalent positions between both, and instructing human beings to manage the environment wisely and to maintain the balance of nature. Moving ?Muslim Power? to achieve SDGs as a form of their ?taqwa? to their God is the challenge for the government, civil society organizations, and scholars in promoting SDGs or Sustainable Science to society and to higher education especially in the Islamic Universities (PTKI).Pembangunan Berkelanjutan Berwawasan Lingkungan atau Sustainable Development Goals merupakan skema program kebijakan yang disepakati para pemimpin dunia untuk mengurangi kemiskinan, kesenjangan, dan mengakhiri dampak perubahan iklim global. Artikel ini, mendiskusikan konsep SDGs yang terdiri dari 17 goal dalam perspektif Islam Indonesia sebagai negara dengan populasi muslim terbesar di dunia. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam kajian literatur ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil studi menunjukkan bahwa konsep Islam searah/berkelanjutan dengan tujuan SDGs. Islam juga memiliki cara untuk memerangi kemiskinan dengan zakat, puasa, dan pola hidup yang sederhana, memberikan hak-hak secara adil antara perempuan dan laki-laki dan menegaskan tidak ada posisi yang ekuivalen di antara keduanya; dan memerintahkan manusia untuk mengelola lingkungan secara bijak dan menjaga keseimbangan alam. Menggerakkan massa Islam untuk membantu dalam pencapaian SDGs sebagai wujud ketaqwaan mereka kepada Allah SWT menjadi tantangan bagi pemerintah, organisasi masyarakat, maupun akademisi dalam mensosialisasikan SDGs serta Sustainable Science ke masyarakat maupun ke pendidikan tinggi khususnya perguruan tinggi keagamaan Islam (PTKI).

Abstract

This study examines the use of liberal principles in Husein Muhammad's works on Quranic interpretation which are found when uses new concepts of the Sciences of the Qur?an.  This new concept is used as an ontological view when he interprets Qur'anic verses regarding human rights and gender relations. The liberal principles that Husein Muhammad uses have clear parameters and do not neglect the basic rules of interpretation itself. Through a qualitative approach with descriptive method, research on literature and interviews, this study confirms that the liberal principles used by Husein Muhammad, in addition to using gender justice analysis, are also produced among others through a re-understanding of the rules of interpretation such as asbuz nuzul, n?sikh mans?kh, ta`w?l, muhkam-mutasy?bih, makkiyah mad?niyyah. The redefinition of the rules of interpretation is then used as the basis when he makes the interpretation of the Qur'an so that the results of the interpretation are different when compared to interpretations that have been developed among Muslims. As a result, his interpretation is not only laden with religious messages, but also becomes part of the expression of feminist kiyai identity in the development of interpretations in Indonesia.

Abstract

This article reviews the thoughts of KH. Hasyim Ash'ari concerning Islam and nationality. The method in this research is the library research method with a descriptive analysis study. The analytical study uses content analysis and descriptive analysis related to Islamic thought and nationality KH. Hasyim Ash'ari. The results showed that the problem that was found today was that a phenomenon had happened to the life of the Indonesian nation, with the re-emergence of groups that opposed Islam and nationality (Indonesian-ness). So, it is necessary to tune in KH. Hasyim Ash?ari about Islam and nationality, KH. Hasyim Asy'ari himself has proven that the two do not need to be contested because they are the realm of one concept of struggle. Islamic thought KH. Hasyim Ash'ari has a traditional Islamic style that focuses on the fields of Sufism, theology (ahlussunah wal jama'ah), and fiqh. Meanwhile, his national thinking about political ideas was used as a struggle to unite the people and confront confrontation with the Colonial as well as efforts to fight for Indonesian independence.Artikel ini menalaah kembali tentang pemikiran KH. Hasyim Asy?ari mengenai keislaman dan kebangsaan. Metode dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kepustakaan (library research) dengan studi analisis deskriptif. Studi analisis menggunakan analisis conten dan deskriptif terkait pemikiran keislaman dan kebangsaan KH. Hasyim Asy?ari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, bahwa permasalahan yang didapatkan deawasa ini adalah terjadi fenomena yang menimpa  kehidupan bangsa Indonesia, dengan kembali munculnya golongan-golongan yang mempertentangkan keislaman dan kebangsaan (keindonesiaan). Maka, perlu menalaah pemikiran KH. Hasyim Asy?ari tentang keislaman dan kebangsaan, KH. Hasyim Asy?ari sendiri telah membuktikan bahwa keduanya tidak perlu dipertentangkan, karena keduanya adalah ranah dalam satu konsep perjuangan. Pemikiran keislaman KH. Hasyim Asy?ari bercorak Islam tradisional yang berfokus pada bidang tasawuf, teologi (ahlussunah wal jama?ah) dan fiqh. Sedangkan, pemikiran kebangsaannya mengenai ide-ide politik yang digunakan sebagai perjuangan untuk mempersatukan umat dan melakukan konfrontasi terhadap Kolonial serta usaha dalam memperjuangkan kemerdekaan Indonesia

Abstract

The understanding of the self is of paramount significance because as individuals we wonder who we are; where we come from; what the purpose of our life is, and what true happiness and misery entail. Muslim philosophers such as Razi, Farabi and Avicenna as well as Sufi mystics like Sanai, Attar and Rumi believe mankind is composed of an external form or body, and an internal entity, which is one?s true substance, ?nafs?, self, mind or soul. Sufi mystics likewise the Muslim philosophers believe that mankind is a union of mind and body; nevertheless, they consider the physical body is a deception, as the true essence of human consists of his soul that is eternal and divine. They emphasize the immortal nature of the soul, created by God that returns through various stages to be in closer proximity to its Creator. They concur ?although man is not primordial, he is eternal; while his corpus is terrestrial, his soul is divine; and although his essence is mixed with animal and voracious attributes; if he gets rid of his maleficence, man will reach the proximity of God, which represents its ultimate happiness.

Abstract

The percentage of early marriages in South Kalimantan is the highest in Indonesia but the poverty rate in this province is the third lowest. This gives an early indication that early marriages in the province are not associated with poverty. Therefore, the case of early marriages in South Kalimantan is interesting to be observed. This study investigates what are the causes of early marriages in South Kalimantan and whether early marriages have a correlation with poverty and other indicators such as education and health levels. To answer that, data collection is done by documentation of interviews transcript and data report from the Central Statistics Agency of South Kalimantan. This study finds that the causes of early marriages in South Kalimantan relate to economic problems and as a way to protect families.  This study also finds that there is a significant negative correlation between early marriages and the level of education ( -0,005 < 0,05) and between early marriages and health (-0,001 < 0,05). Surprisingly, there is no significant correlation between early marriages and poverty (0,073 > 0,05).  This means that the higher the number of early marriages, the lower the level of education and health and vice versa.  This finding is important for policy makers, communities, and religious leaders to focus on supporting public education to prevent early marriages and break the cycle of problems associated with early marriages. Persentase pernikahan dini di Kalimantan Selatan tertinggi di Indonesia tetapi angka kemiskinan di Provinsi ini berada posisi tiga terendah. Hal tersebut memberi petunjuk awal bahwa pernikahan dini di provinsi ini tidak berhubungan dengan kemiskinan. Oleh karena itu, kasus pernikahan dini di Kalimantan Selatan menarik untuk dicermati. Penelitian ini mencari penyebab terjadinya pernikahan dini di Kalimantan Selatan dan korelasi antara pernikahan dini dengan tingkat pendidikan, kesehatan, dan kemiskinan. Untuk menjawab itu pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan dokumentasi transkrip wawancara dan laporan data dari Badan Pusat Statistik Kalimantan Selatan. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa penyebab terjadinya pernikahan dini di Kalimantan Selatan adalah permasalahan ekonomi dan sebagai cara untuk melindungi keluarga. Selain itu, penelitian ini menemukan bahwa pernikahan dini berkorelasi signifikan dengan tingkat pendidikan (-0,005 < 0,05) dan kesehatan (-0,001 < 0,05) dengan nilai negatif, tetapi pernikahan dini tidak berkorelasi signifikan dengan kemiskinan (0,073 > 0,05). Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa jika persentase pernikahan dini menurun, tingkat pendidikan dan angka harapan hidup akan meningkat. Temuan ini penting untuk pengambil kebijakan, komunitas, serta tokoh agama untuk fokus pada dukungan terhadap pendidikan masyarakat untuk mencegah pernikahan dini dan memutus siklus permasalahan yang terkait dengan pernikahan dini.

Abstract

This study aims to further explain Badiuzzaman Said Nursi's thought on prophethood. This library study employs a historical approach in extracting data and  content analysis. The study shows that Said Nursi's thought concerning prophecy stems from his criticisms of the materialistic-mechanistic paradigm  of Western civilization. This view basically rejects the transcendental perspective and spiritual values in understanding nature. The notion of materialism from the West attacks the key concepts of Islamic teachings. Realizing this, Nursi was called upon to give a very serious intellectual response. It was at this point that Nursi offered his ideas on prophethood. In Ris?lah an-N?r, Said Nursi strives to revive prophetic values by applying theological approaches to be easily understood by society. Nursi?s thought is built on an effort to revive prophetic values so that it could shed light on Turkish people who had suffered serious illnesses due to the influences of the Western paradigm of mechanical materialism.y. This prophetic knowledge would eventually end in faith, which leads to eternal happiness for believers and eternal misery for unbelievers.Artikel ini bertujuan untuk lebih menjelaskan pemikiran Badiuzzaman Said Nursi tentang kenabian. Studi literatur ini menggunakan pendekatan historis dalam mengekstraksi data dan melakukan analisis konten. Studi ini menunjukkan bahwa pemikiran Said Nursi tentang nubuat berasal dari paradigma materialisme-mekanistik yang lahir dari peradaban Barat. Pandangan ini pada dasarnya menolak perspektif transendental dan nilai-nilai spiritual dalam memahami alam. Gagasan materialisme dari Barat menyerang konsep-konsep kunci ajaran Islam. Menyadari hal ini, Nursi dipanggil untuk memberikan respons intelektual yang sangat serius. Pada titik inilah Nursi menawarkan gagasannya tentang kenabian. Dalam Ris?lah an-N?r, Said Nursi berusaha untuk menghidupkan kembali nilai-nilai kenabian dengan menerapkan pendekatan teologis agar mudah dipahami oleh publik. Pemikiran Bediuzzaman dibangun dalam upaya untuk menghidupkan kembali nilai-nilai kenabian sehingga dapat memberikan cahaya kepada orang-orang Turki yang sudah menderita penyakit serius karena pengaruh Barat dengan paradigma materialisme mekanis yang tidak memiliki dimensi spiritualitas. Pengetahuan kenabian ini pada akhirnya akan berakhir dalam iman, yang oleh Bediuzzaman disebut kebahagiaan esensial (manusia memiliki iman) bagi manusia, dan yang menolak (kufur) keberadaan peran Tuhan dan Nabi, yang merupakan kesengsaraan sejati.
