Abstract

The release of organic waste into the waters due to the Eel (Anguilla sp.) rearing activity will cause eutrophication. Efforts to reduce organic waste can be done by using local mussel (Pilsbryoconcha exilis) because it has biofiltration capabilities. The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of local mussels in reducing organic waste. The research design used in this study was a randomized block design (RBD), with treatment in the form of differences in waste concentration (50% and 100%), while the group was in the form of differences in the size of the gravestone (small, medium, and large). The results showed that mussel was able to reduce organic matter, the effective time of local mussel (P. exilis) to reduce organic waste from the cultivation of eel (Anguilla sp.) Was in the first 6 days. The most effective treatment is the use of 100% waste concentration and small mussel. This treatment was able to reduce COD values by 66.1 mg/L (28%), turbidity by 187.2 NTU (16%), TSS by 134 mg/L (36%), and ammonia by 0.004 mg/L (24%), and increased biomass by 7.21 grams (3%).

Abstract

Sangkuriang catfish (Clarias gariepinus) a freshwater fish, that is well-known as aquaculture commodity in Manokwari Regency. Water quality is a determining factor for the success of catfish farming. The purpose of this study is to determine the dynamics of water quality and to determine the feasibility of catfish culture water quality in Manokwari Regency according to the required quality standards. The method used was descriptive by direct field data collection in Prafi and Masni Districts, which are known as catfish farming centers. The results showed that in the Prafi ponds temperature was 28 - 31 0C, pH: 6.8 – 7.56 and DO: 3.2 - 6.2 ppm and the Masni temperature 27 -31 0C, pH 6.62 - 7, 60 and DO: 3.2 – 7.1 ppm. Nitrate concentrations in the Prafi ponds ranged from 0.8 to 1 mg/l and in the Masni ponds from 0.7 to 1.2 mg/l. Ammonia concentrations in the Prafi and Masni ponds ranged from 0.06 to ≥ 0.5 mg/L. Temperature, pH, DO and Nitrate are in accordance to the required quality standards while Ammonia is not in accordance to the quality standards of Government Regulation Number 82/2001.

Abstract

The fish catch by fishermen on the coast of Donggala Regency tends to fluctuate and is relatively low. This is thought to be caused by social, economic and traditional fishing techniques. This study analyzes the influence of fishermen experience factors, operational cost, fishing ground distance, long time at sea, and machine power on the fish catch of small-scale fishermen in Donggala Regency. Data collection was carried out from November 2020 to January 2021, and was analyzed using the Multiple Linear Regression method. The findings indicate that the fish catches of fishermen are influenced by the five socio-economic and technical factors analyzed. Capture fisheries development policies need to pay attention to the availability of capital, ownership and mastery of fishing technology.

Abstract

The potential of natural resources and the high aesthetic value of Lake Anggi Giji and Lake Anggi Gida in the Arfak Mountains Regency, West Papua are capital for regional development. However, development activities in the lake area and its surroundings can cause damage to the lake. This study aims to identify and analyze the potential damage to Lake Anggi Giji and Anggi Gida in Arfak Mountains District, West Papua. The method applied is descriptive method. Assessment of potential damage is based on lake damage assessment parameters in accordance with Dirjen PDASHL Regulation No. P.4/PDASHL/SET/KUM.1/3/2019 concerning Lake Damage Control. Data were collected through observation, unstructured interviews, documentation and literature search. The data analysis was carried out by comparing the real conditions of the lake with the criteria for damage to the lake and with the relevant theories. To support the analysis, data processing of Landsat 8 OLI satellite imagery and high-resolution satellite imagery from Google Earth is carried out. The results of the initial damage assessment generally show that Lake Anggi Giji and Lake Anggi Gida are in good condition. However, it is necessary to make efforts to prevent damage to the lake to ensure the sustainability of the ecosystem services of the two lakes.

Abstract

The coastal waters of Payum to coastal waters of Lampu Satu of the coastal areas in Merauke Regency and are used by fishermen as water areas to catch organisms that have high economic value. This study aims to determine the types and effects of physics and chemistry on the presence of fish in the coastal waters of Payum to Lampu Satu. This research was conducted in the coastal waters of Payum to coastal waters of Lampu Satu, Merauke from April to June 2020. Data collection was carried out by measuring the environmental parameters directly, namely temperature, salinity and pH, while the fish catch data was obtained by calculating directly the number of catches each trip. Data analysis using linear regression model to determine the environmental factors that effect to the catch. The results showed that temperature, salinity and pH had an effect and supported the presence of fish in the coastal waters Payum to coastal waters of Lampu Satu.

Abstract

Starfish are included in the class asteroidea, and are grouped into the Phylum Echinoderms. Starfish can be used by humans both as food, decoration and commodities for export. The purpose of this study was to determine the yield of starfish extract (Protoreaster nodosus) and identify the types of bioactive compounds contained in the methanol extract of Protoreaster nodosus from Army Dock Waters, Views Village, Morotai Island Regency. This research was conducted in December 2019-January 2020. It started with taking samples of starfish (Protoreaster nodosus) from Army Dock Waters, Morotai Island Regency. Sample analysis was carried out at the FPIK Laboratory of the Pacific Morotai University. Sample extraction using methanol maceration with methanol solvent. Identification of groups of bioactive compounds include alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids/triterpenoids, saponins, quinones, and phenols. The research data obtained were then analyzed descriptively. Results the starfish extract obtained has a paste like texture, reddish yellow in color and has clear granules like crystals. The yield of methanol extract was 2.15 % and Identification of the class of bioactive compounds in the starfish (Protoreaster nodosus) contains bioactive compounds of alkaloids, steroids, and flavonoids.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analysis the length-weight relationship of gastropods (Family Littorinidae) which is associated with mangrove ecosystems where had a potential value to utilized for the management of natural resources in Merauke Regency. This research was conducted in June-August 2020 in the Mangrove Forest Ecosystem of Payum Beach, Merauke. The results show that an average weight of L. scabra 0.81 gr and average length of 1.85 cm, eventually for the length and weight analysis point towards Allometric Negative which means the growth of length is faster than the additional of body weight. The distribution pattern of L.scabra categorized uniform in all three station. This distribution patterns causing influenced by several factors such as food availability, substrates, ecological physical, chemical, enviromental factors, as well as adaptation strategies and biological interactions between population in the community.

Abstract

Abstract Fishermen who live on the coast of Doreri Bay are the main stakeholders in the management of coral reef ecosystems in the area. Therefore, sustainable coral reef management requires their participation and support. This study aims to determine the perceptions of traditional fishermen about non-market value and non-use value, as well as the main threats to coral reef resources. The research was conducted in October-November 2018. A total of 70 traditional fishermen from 15 villages on the coast of Doreri Bay were selected as respondents. Data processing is done by tabulation method, namely the compilation of data into a formal pattern that has been designed. The results of data processing were then analyzed with a quantitative approach. The results show that traditional fishermen in Doreri Bay have a good understanding of the non-market value and non-use value of coral reef resources. Fishermen also view that the main threats to the preservation of coral reef resources are waste and garbage, as well as the use of destructive fishing gear. Despite having a good understanding of the importance of coral reef resources, compliance with the rules in protecting the environment is still low. Therefore, efforts are needed to develop, supervise, enforce rules/laws, and alternatively improve the family economy.
