Abstract

As one of the main purposes of using English today is for international communication and globalisation, English has been mainly used among bilingual speakers of English who come from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds (McKay, 2006; Sharifian, 2014). In such multinational and multicultural contexts, today English learners have to deal with not only linguistic barrier, but also cultural barrier. Therefore, it is crucially important that they are provided with multicultural knowledge and cross-cultural awareness. However, so far, there has been little research into the perceptions of English teachers towards culture used in ELT materials in EFL contexts. Therefore, the research aims to identify how seven Vietnamese teachers of English in two universities in Hanoi, Vietnam perceived culture and the role of culture in language teaching. This paper also seeks to explore how their perceptions influenced the way they taught culture in their English class and the way they adapted and developed ELT materials for their students with the hope that it will provide useful and practical suggestions for developing appropriate ELT materials for EFL teaching contexts. The research is based on a qualitative research which applies mostly in-depth, semi-structured interviews and document analysis. The data of this research reveals that most participants recognized the close and interrelated relationship between language and culture and the crucial role of culture in language teaching. They also identified the important role of English as an international language and cultural differences in ELT materials. Realizing a cultural gap in most of the materials they taught, they tried to adapt the materials based on their students’ needs.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to promote a new model of designing activities in the lesson plan of English teachers. The model was derived from the phases of the Multiliteracy pedagogical Framework. It was qualitative research with documentation techniques for collecting data. The source of data was the document of lesson plans made by teachers of English. The data was statements on teaching-learning activities in the lesson plans. The author identified the lesson plan of teachers from Al Islam senior high school in Krian, Sidoarjo. The activities statements were categorized using the four phases and cognitive process of the Multiliteracy Framework; Situated Practice (Experiencing), Overt Instruction (Conceptualizing), Critical Framing (Analysis), and Transformed Practice (Applying) promoted by Cope and Kalantzis with New London Group in 1996. The result showed that the teachers just included two phases; Situated Practice (Experiencing) and Overt Instruction (Conceptualizing), no Overt Instruction (Conceptualizing), Critical Framing (Analysis), and Transformed Practice (Applying) yet in their teaching-learning activities. The teachers should change the old phases in their lesson plan with the four phases of the framework to guide them in applying multiliteracy in English language teaching. The next researcher could focus on teachers’ knowledge or belief about the multiliteracy framework to assure the implementation

Abstract

This study aims to determine (1) How is student character education (2) How is student behavior, (3) is there any influence of character education on student behavior. This research uses quantitative research with survey research type. The population of this study were all 112 Sindangjawa MI students. The sampling technique using simple random sampling obtained a sample of 88 students. Data collection techniques using questionnaire instruments, observation and documentation. The measuring instrument used was a questionnaire, the analysis of the instruments included validity and reliability test analysis. Data analysis is in the form of simple linear regression analysis and correlation test. Prior to the analysis, the prerequisite tests are normality test, homogeneity test and autocorrelation test. The results of this study indicate that (1) Student character education is very high with a percentage of 88.64%, (2) Student behavior shows a very good category of 77.27%, (3) There is a positive influence between character education on student behavior. Where if student character education increases by 1%, it will also be followed by an increase in student behavior by 0.471. In the f test, the fcount of 4.483 was obtained and the significance level of the significance level of 5% was 3.39. Based on the results of regression analysis, the value of r is 0.446 and r2 is 0.526. This means that the influence of character education on student behavior by 52.6%, while the rest is influenced by other factors outside the variables in this study.

Abstract

Abstrak Pada pembelajaran sejarah lokal tentu sangat berperan sebagai alat dalam mengembangkan nilai-nilai multikultural. Situs sejarah Kesultanan Ternate tentu memiliki sarat akan makna/ nilai-nilai multikultural yang tekandung di dalamnya. Olehnya itu, telah dimanfaatkan oleh SMA Negeri 5 Kota Ternate. Fakta tersebut setidaknya menjadi magnet (menarik) bagi penulis sehingga melakukan penelitian mengenai pemanfaatan situs Kesultanan Ternate dalam pembelajaran sejarah lokal berbasis multikultural. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yakni, kualitatif deskriptif naturalistik dengan tehnik pengumpulan data yaitu, tahapan observasi (pengamatan) inteview (wawancara), dokumentasi dan gabungan ketiganya. Sesuai dengan hasil penelitian yang telah diperoleh, pembelajaran sejarah lokal berbasis multikultural dengan memanfaatkan situs sejarah Kesultanan Ternate, telah memberikan dampak positif bagi pengetahuan, kreatifitas dan sikap siswa. Selain dari pengetahuan dan pemahaman terhadap aspek historis Kesultanan Ternate, kondisi masyarakat dan situs-situs peninggalan sejarah Kesultanan Ternate secara kritis, siswa juga dapat menerapkan sikap yang menjunjung nilai-nilai multikulturalisme sesuai dengan materi sejarah Kesultanan Ternate. Seperti sikap toleransi, tolong-menolong, menghargai pendapat orang lain dan berprasangka baik antar sesama tanpa melihat perbedaan etnis, suku, ras dan agama.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the aspects that cause parents to get motivated in choosing bilingual kindergarten for their children in Bekasi and to find out which aspects are dominant. This descriptive research used a quantitative research method. The research method used in this study is conducted through a survey. 205 parents with children up to six years old (early childhood) in Bekasi are the subjects of this study. Data collection techniques are implemented using multilevel scale questionnaire. The results appeared that what makes parents get motivated in choosing bilingual school for their children are derived from internal and external motivation. Internal motivation consists of (1) aspects of needs and (2) aspects of hope, while external motivation includes (3) aspects of child’s talents and interests, (4) aspects of psychology, (5) aspects of friends, (6) aspects of facilities and infrastructure, and (7) aspects of teachers. The results are based on average differences in the questionnaire from seven aspects with the breakdown: aspects of needs for 3.40, aspects of hope for 3.39, aspects of child’s talents and interests for 3.22, aspects of psychology for 3.20, aspects of friends for 3.42, aspects of facilities and infrastructure for 3.22, and aspects of teachers for 3.24. Descriptively, the aspects that influence parents in choosing bilingual school are aspects of friends. The seven aspects were tested by Tukey’s HSD to analyze the variety by comparing these seven aspects and seeing the average similarity. Thus, the motivation variable significantly influences the differences in the aspects of psychology, children's talents and interests, facilities and infrastructure, and teachers with the aspects of hopes, needs, and friends

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui persepsi mahasiswa mengenai dampak Covid 19 terhadap disiplin ilmu sosial. Ilmu sosial yang dimaksud dalam penelitian ini yaitu Ekonomi, Politik, Sosiologi dan Psikologi. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuliatatif dengan pendekatan interpretatif. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan metode angket terbuka dan dokumentasi. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester 2 PGSD UNRAM, sedangkan penentuan informan menggunakan purposive sampling sesuai dengan kebutuhan dalam penelitian dan menggunakan snowball sampling karena dirasa perlu sampel tambahan data agar menjadi valid. Teknik pemeriksaan kebasahan data untuk penelitian ini adalah menggunakan teknik triangulasi. Kemudian teknik menganalisis data dimulai dari mereduksi data, menyajikan data, dan penarikan kesimpulan atau verifikasi.Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa virus covid 19 berdampak pada berbagai disiplin ilmu sosial diantaranya Ekonomi, Politik, Sosiologi dan Psikologi. Pada bidang Ekonomi, covid 19 menyebabkan perkeonomian Indonesia turun drastis, produksi terganggu, pendapatan masyarakat turun, penutupan usaha, daya beli masyarakat turun, dan PHK masal. Pada bidang Politik, kepercayaan masyarakat terhadap pemerintah turun dikarenakan kebijakan yang dirasa tidak jelas dan tidak konsisten yang diambil oleh pemerintah, serta tidak sinkronnya kebijakan pemerintah pusat dengan pemerintah daerah. Kemudian pada bidang sosiologi, intensitas pertemuan menjadi berkurang dan budaya “nongkrong” harus dikurangi. Sedangkan untuk bidang psikologi, akibat covid 19 ini membuat masyarakat stres dan terkekang, bahkan seringkali berpikir negatif tentang dirinya dan masa depannya.

Abstract

Implementasi Kurikulum Tematik Sekolah Dasar di Indonesia telah mengubah fokus pembelajaran dari pembelajaran berfokus pada bidang studi secara terpisah bergeser pada tema dengan beragam kompetensi terpadu (1). Sejalan dengan pendapat Dewey bahwa pendidik perlu menciptakan kegitan kelas yang mengikuti prinsip prinsip keterlanjutan dan keterpaduan (2). Dalam pembelajaran tematik, konten (kompetensi dasar) bidang studi yang relevan terintegrasi dalam pembelajaran tematik. Keterpaduan kompetensi tersebut menunjukkan keterkaitan tema, sub-tema (topik) dan beragam fakta atau informasi (3). Koherensi ketiganya akan memperkuat pemahaman siswa (4). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa koherensi siliabi tematik Sekolah Dasar. Fokus analisis dibatasi pada tema terkait binatang dan tumbuhan. Disain penelitian adalah diskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data dokumen silabi tematik terpadu Kelas I,II, dan III. Instrumen pengumpulan data lembar observasi. Metode analisis adalah Analisis semantik yang fokus pada relasi makna hypernymy dan hyponymy. Hasil analisis menunjukkan koherensi global silabi tematik mendekati sempurna dengan ambiguitas sekitar 12% terkait relevansi dan skop konteks. Sedangkan koherensi lokal mencapai 90% dengan ambiguitas 10%.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the percentage level of primary school principals in using artistic supervision models, and to analyze the supervisory approach undertaken by principals according to the teacher quadrant level. The research method used is quantitative, the type of research used is survey. The data collection technique used was a questionnaire. The data analysis technique used is descriptive statistics, namely presenting in the form of tables, charts, graphs, percentage values ​​and so on. Data analysis was carried out with the help of SPSS version 23. The results showed: 1) the percentage level of primary school principals using the artistic supervision model 27.34% was quite often done by the principal, 2.88% was sometimes done by the principal, 7.91% very often done, 57.55% often and 4.32% never done. 2) principals who take an artistic supervision approach basically do not realize that the supervision model used is an artistic approach. The percentage level of school principals who supervised the quadrant level of teachers with a directive approach was 20.86%, the use of a collaborative approach was 42.45% and the non-directive approach was 36.69%. The suggestions recommended in this article are for researchers to expect further research to create models of artistic supervision in increasing pedagogical competence according to the quadrant level of primary school teachers. For other researchers, similar research can be carried out related to artistic supervision models and the quadrant level of elementary school teachers. The principal should understand the teacher quadrant level to determine the supervision approach that will be used by the principal.

Abstract

This study intends to describe the involvement of students in community activities of “Green Youth” to maintain environmental sustainability in building eco-citizenship of students who care for their environment. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. Data collection techniques include interviews, observation and documentation. The informants in this study were three people from the green youth community as well as several students who took part in environmental preservation activities. The results of this study indicate the activities that students participate in in the green youth community include: (1) Implementation of the habit of disposing of garbage in its place; (2) River patrol activities; (3) Creating a slogan; (4) Treatment of springs; and (5) Tree planting. Through involvement in this group is because they want to create a good environment and can provide awareness (reflection) of the need to care for the environment. The end result is that the activities carried out have been able to build the spirit of students with eco-citizenship where awareness of the environment is built with evidence of maintaining maintained barren forests that have grown around five to six meters of trees and where a spring has been installed a useful wall that makes water easier

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kreativitas guru PAUD dalam penciptaan gerak dan lagu tematik untuk anak usia dini yang meliputi ide gagasan, bentuk dan proses penciptaan gerak dan lagu. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian ini memuat deskripsi kreativitas Guru PAUD dalam proses penciptaan gerak dan lagu tematik untuk anak usia dini yang diawali dari penentuan ide gagasan, tahap eksplorasi gerakan, tahap improvisasi gerak dan tahap pembentukan gerakan. Dimana masing-masing tahapan penciptaan gerak dan lagu difokuskan pada gerak dan lagu bertema sesuai dengan tema pembelajaran yang ada di PAUD. Kesimpulan penelitian ini yaitu, bagaimanapun bentuk gerak dan lagu yang diciptakan oleh Guru PAUD hendaknya disesuaikan dengan karakteristik dari peserta didik. Gerak dan lagu yang bagus, adalah gerak yang dilakukan dengan anak-anak menirukan syair yang ada dalam lagu tersebut. Karena gerak dan lagu selain dapat melatih fisiknya, juga dapat melatih Bahasa anak.
