Abstract

Psychopath is abnormal psychology that cause pasients have difficulty in adjusting to the social norms that exsist in the environment. Basically psychopath is more known as a social predator because they likes to kill and rape their victims. This research focused on the psychopathic traits in one of the character in Misery novel named Annie Wilkes. This research used descriptive qualitative method and Robert D. Hare’s theory to reveal psychopathic traits shown by Annie Wilkes. The result of this research, there are eleven psychopathic traits in Annie Wilke. That are egocentric, lack of empathy, lack of concern for others, impulsivity, poor behavioral control, have an attractive outward appearrance, shallow emotions, have no fear, high posses feelings for personal satisfication, have a cruel social relationship with others and anti- social.

Abstract

The study is aimed to analyze Racism in Django Unchained by Quentin Tarantino usingsocio-psychological approach. The analysis used only three types of racism from five categories in Django Unchained, which are Blatant Racism, Cover Rasim, and Unintentional Racism and the impact of them in the character‘s psychological condition around environment. The method is qualitative method. Based on the research findings, it was found that there are five of racisms. They are getting after reading the scripts, watching the film and understanding precisely the Django Unchained movie.

Abstract

Abstract Maxims are the rules to know whether the speaker can be cooperative or not while he contributes the information in conversation. By flouting maxims, the participants of the conversation seem to be uncooperative but actually they do. The participants themselves have certain intentions of flouting the maxims. There are some intended meanings and certain purposes which are conveyed by the speaker behind the utterance where maxim flouting occurs. Hence, by flouting the maxims, the participants are not said to beuncooperative in a conversation. It is because maxim flouting is a way to make the hearer look for the real meaning beyond what is said implicitly by the speaker. This research only focus in analyzing maxim flouting that occurs in the Kungfu Panda Movie. This research uses the Grice’s Cooperative Principle and Cutting’s theory they are maxim quantity, maxim quality, maxim relation and maxim of manner that flouting by the main character in Kungfu Panda Movie Script. Based on the data analysis , it has been discovered that all the main characters all flouting all the types of maxims. The maxim of quantity flouting becomes the main type of maxim flouting which is performed by the main characters. They have tendency to flout this maxim to make the information given to the listener clearer. It is done by giving too little information rather than giving much one. Meanwhile, maxim of quality and maxim of manner flouting rarely occurs in the movie because the characters are assertive kind of persons. Abstract

Semiotic Analysis in William Blake Poems. The problem in this research is how to apply Riffaterre’s theory. This research focused on semiotic of Riffaterre’s theory in William Blake poems, titled The Sick Rose, My Pretty Rose Tree, and The Garden of Love. The method that used in this research was descriptive qualitative method. The data that used in this research was a written record in the form of three poems by William Blake. Three poems in question were The Sick Rose, My Pretty Rose Tree, and The Garden of Love. The technique used to collect data in this research was the technique of reading log. The researcher used the Riffaterre’s theory to analysis the poems. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that poem The Sick Rose and The Garden of love depict of live before France Revolution occurred, and poem My Pretty Rose Tree describe about the author’s feeling to his wife.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze the psychology of Lucy Maud Montgomery as a write which is reflected in her novel entitled Anne of Green Gables. The technique of collecting data is data documentation technique that is a record of events that has passed. The documentation covers the content of Montgomery’s novel and her biography. The approach in analyzing the novel is psychological approach. The result is Lucy Maud Montgomery as the author and Anne as the main character in the novel have imaginative personality which belong to practical imaginative type, has desire to be appreciated, and loneliness. Besides, loneliness gives the impact towards Lucy Maud Montgomery in creating her personalityin writing her works.

Abstract

This research is aimed to analyze the main character personality short stories by Roald Dahl  as Depicted in her Short Stories. In conducting this research, the researcher applies the qualitative descriptive method. The researcher uses documentation as the technique of collecting data. All the necessary data which related to the research are gathered by doing several steps. The first tep is the researcher selects the short stories by Roald Dahl. The second step is the researcher gathers the literary reference that related to psychological approach. From the analysis the researcher finds that anyone who lives in this world will not be separated from its basic needs,  psychological needs, and self fulfillment need. Abstract

Things Fall Apart is a novel potrays the background of traditional life and primitive culture Ibo tribe in Umuofia, Nigeria, Africa and also the impact of European colonialism towards Africans’ society in the early 19th century. The research applies the qualitative method and it supported by the sociology of literature approach. The primary data are taken from the novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. Based on the analysis the researcher conducts, the impact of European colonialism in Africa which not only brings a positive impacts but also negative legacy. There are several points of the impact European colonialism in Africa : existence of christianity, existence of language, establishment regulation and contribution to development.

Abstract

This research is qualitative descriptive research that analyzes five selected poems of Maya Angelou “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sing, Still I Rise, Phenomenal Woman, When I Think about My Self and the last is Alone”. The researcher used qualitative method and structural approach to know what kinds of imagery that used in five selected poems by Maya Angelou “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sing, Still I Rise, Phenomenal Woman, When I Think about My Self and the last is Alone”. Then, the data were collected from five poems selected by Maya Angelou. In the process analyzed, the researcher read the poem “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sing, Still I Rise, Phenomenal Woman, When I Think About My Self and the last is Alone” and using five steps based on the technique of analyzing the data by using structural approach to find what kinds of imagery that used in poem “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sing, Still I Rise, Phenomenal Woman, When I Think About My Self and the last is Alone” by Maya Angelou. Then based on the result of this analyzed, the researcher found there are four types of imagery that Maya Angelou used in his poem “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sing, Still I Rise, Phenomenal Woman, When I Think About My Self and the last is Alone” Those are visual imagery, auditory imagery, tactile imagery, gustatory imagery and last is kinesthetic imagery, but the kinds of imagery that very dominant used is auditory imagery. Keywords: Poetry, Imagery, Method and Approach

Abstract

This research discussed the main character’s need, Jay Gatsby. Namely, psychological needs, safety needs, love, and belonging need, Esteem needs, and actualization need. The objective of this research is to analyze the Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy need described in the Gatsby novel by Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald. This research used a descriptive qualitative method and Abraham Maslow’s theory. The result of this research was found from five types of Abraham Maslow’s need, there were two types that were not fulfilled by Jay Gatsby, namely safety needs, and love and belongingness need so, that actualization needs could not be reached.Keywords: Jay Gatsby, Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs

Abstract

This research was a descriptive research with qualitative approach. It aimed to investigate the difficulties faced by class A students in the Mathematics Education Study Program in mastering four English language skills (Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening). The subjects in this study consisted of 26 students who were selected by purposive sampling. To obtain the data, The researchers used two instruments, namely interviews and questionnaires. Questionnaires were distributed to students to find out the information about students’ difficulties, while interviews were submitted to informants to clarify information obtained from the questionnaires. The data were analyzed through three stages; data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification. The results showed that most of the students had difficulties when they learnt English such as lack of vocabulary, low grammar mastery, and pronounciation. These three problem were regarded as the obstacles to them to perform the four English skills. In addition, facilities in learning as well as techniques or methods used by lecturers in the teaching and learning process became the factor influenced students in mastering English.
