Abstract

This research aimed to find out types of overt sexism and indirect sexism as well as analyze the context of the situation on the data found in the drama series The Queen's Gambit which totals seven episodes. The data were in the form of words, phrases, and sentences from the drama series transcripts. This research used the theory of types of sexism by Mills (2008) and the theory of context of the situation by Hymes (1977). This research used a descriptive qualitative method and a non-participant observation method to analyze the data. In the data collection, this research used the transcript from each episode of the drama series to examine the data. The next step is watching the drama series The Queen's Gambit to find out the situation from the data obtained in the transcript. Then, this research identified, coded, classified, and analyzed the data that has been obtained. As a result, 70 data were observed, with 32 data on the type of overt sexism and 38 data on the type of indirect sexism and the most frequently occurring data is presupposition with a total amount of 14 data has been found.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to: 1) analyze the type of code mixing used on Livy Renata’s Vlog on YouTube channel, 2) analyze the factors caused code mixing uses Livy Renata’s Vlog. This research applied Muysken's code mixing theory as well as JU's code mixing factors. Descriptive qualitative employed in this research. The data of this research consists of Livy’s phrase on her vlog that contain a code mixing. There were 56 code mixingfound in this research. The categorization of the data analysis's findings was used to insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization. The findings revealed that the most typical style of code mixing was insertion (67,8%), it was followed by alternation (17,85%), and congruent lexicalization (14,28%). There are four factors of caused use code mixing in this research they are language dominance, language attitude, psycholinguistics motivation, and mixing in highly accessible word or phrase.

Abstract

Technology-based learning models are needed in the current industrial era 4.0. Technological developments need to be implemented in the learning process. The combination of learning models with learning media is a necessity to be developed in English lectures. The development carried out is in the form of developing an English language learning model based on audio-visual content. This learning model focuses on projects in the form of audio-visual content. The type of research conducted is Research and Development (R & D) with the design of the ADDIE model development namely Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluations. An audio-visual content-based English learning model was developed in the speaking for general communication course. The research instrument uses a validation sheet. Validation is carried out to material experts, educational technology, and learning evaluation using a scoring of likert scale. Data analysis techniques using qualitative descriptive statistics. The results of the study showed that the validation results of learning models, semester lesson plans, and speaking for general communication textbooks from validators consisting of educational technology experts, material experts and learning evaluation experts with interpretation criteria were very feasible. It can be concluded that the development of an audio-visual content-based English learning model is valid and appropriate to be used in the learning process of speaking for general communication.
