Abstract

This study is aimed to know the influence of the DRTA (Directed Reading Thinking Activity) method on the student’s reading comprehension. Bauman proposes the DRTA Method. The design of the study is experimental research. In experimental research, the research consists of two classes; there are experiment and control classes. The research includes pre-test and post-test. The population is 107 and the sample 68 students. The author uses simple random sampling to determine the sample of the study. In the pre-test data, the mean score of the experiment class is 52,87, and the mean score of control class is 52,57. In post-test data, the mean score of experimental class is 76,81 and mean score of control class is 69,14. Based on the analysis the pre-test data, the value of Tcounted is 0,025 which is compared with Ttable is 1.668 or Tcounted < Ttable. It can be stated that there is no effect on pre-test data or the ability both of class are same. Next, based on the analysis of the post-test data, the value of Tcounted is 2,6595 that compared with Ttabel is 1.668 or Tcounted > Ttable , Ha is accepted. There is an effect of the DRTA (Directed Reading Thinking Activity) method on the student’s reading comprehension.

Abstract

This study is aimed to knowing the correlation between parental attention with students’ career maturity SMK Swasta Al-Maksum Stabat. The hypothesis that submitted was, there is positive correlation between parental attention with students’ career maturity with assuming that the higher parental attention the higher career maturity. Where the sample of this study was the students of class X and XI SMK Swasta Al-Maksum Stabat with the population were 422 students and the sample were 105 students that got by using proportional random sampling technique. The data collection was did by using Likert Scale that includes of two scales, there are scale parental attention and career maturity scale. The data analysis method that used was Multiple Regression Analysis. From result of data analysis found that there is a significance of positive correlation between parental attention with career maturity students’ of SMK Swasta Al-Maksum Stabat, that is shown by coefficient F= 59,299 and P < 0,05.Parental attention gives the contribute to career maturity as much as 54,5%.

Abstract

The study aims to know the role of the teacher in creating literacy in Bahasa Indonesia lesson. This research uses the interview technique and observation. The respondent of the study is the teacher that teaches in the 5th grade of SD Negeri 050718 Cempa. The method of data analysis in this research is descriptive qualitative, in which the kind of data is explanation and documentation. The data is gained and analyzed by using descriptive qualitative. Based on the interview shows that there are obstacles in the school, such as school planning in creating literacy is not implementable and the source is not complete as the material in Bahasa Indonesia lesson. The teacher spends all his energy by creating and posting the book at the edge of the classroom so that the students may read books every time. Meanwhile, based on the observation at the classroom, the researcher finds some books are posted by the teacher in the classroom whiteboard that are full of books related to the knowledge.

Abstract

This research focuses on the types of speech acts and the meaning of the utterances used by Bantenese family. The study aims to find out the types of speech acts, the dominant type of speech acts used by Bantenese family in Medan Johor and the interpretation of the reason of Bantenese use these types of speech acts in their dialogues. This thesis conducts on the descriptive qualitative method. Descriptive design simply describes what data shows. This research elaborates on the utterances assumed to contain illocutionary acts. The findings of the research show the speech acts that occurred on Bantenese family in Medan Johor are assertive, directive, expressive, commissive and declarative. The presentations are: assertives acts 27.5%, directives acts 58.75%, commissives acts 5%, expressives acts 7.5%, and declaratives acts 1.25%. If elaborated, there are several dialogues in Bantenese family. There are between parents to children, children to parents, between sisters and brothers, husband and wife, grandmother to grandchildren and the last between aunt to nephew. The writer also finds that Bantenese usually or often used the statement in command, request, advice, offering, suggesting, confirmation, boasting, resigning and expressing something. It is shown from pragmatic meaning that is utterenced by Bantenese. In daily communication or dialogue in Bantenese family, they often say 'A' but the meaning is 'B' . They say with the statement that has meaning something.

Abstract

The background of this depevelopment is lack of media usage in learning sciences that limited using books and blackboard. This development which aims to identify the feasibility and effectiveness of adobe flash learning media based on discovery learning developed. The development of learning media used ADDIE’s model of development. The development procedure which used in the research consists of five steps, namely: (1) analyze, (2) design, (3) development, (4) implementation, (5) evaluation. The data collecting instruments were assessment sheets for the material expert, media expert, instructional design expert, class teacher, and achievement test. The data analysis technique was the qualitative descriptive technique using score distributions and assessment scale categories. The result of research producing products that meet the eligibility criteria reached 3,80 that have a valid criteria and fit for use, also effectively used to improve students learning outcomes include mastery learning individual reached 85,7%, completness of classical study reached 80,5% and with N-gain percentage reached 0,68 with medium category.

Abstract

The students aims to find out the relationship between Psychological Well-Being with Teachers’ Competence of Yayasan Haji Maksum Abidin Shaleh while the samples are 91 teachers, research conducted on 56 teachers. The data collection did by using scales including two scales there are Psychological Well-Being scale, and teachers’ competence scale. The data analysis method that used is Multiple Regression Analysis. From result of data analysis found that there is a significance of positive correlation between Psychological Well-Being with teachers’ competence of Yayasan Haji Maksum Abidin Shaleh, that is shown by coefificient F=9,324 with P<0,05.Psychological Well-Being gives contribute to Teachers’ Competence as much as 23,0%.From the result above so it hopes to Yayasan Haji Maksum Abidin Shaleh to increase the better Psychological Well-Being, the fulfillment of psychological well-being so the contribution in carrying out the responsibilities in teaching will achieve for increase teachers’ competence in education world, creates new inventions, creative, and be motivator.

Abstract

This final project is entitled The Effect of Using Think Pair Share Technique on Students’ Writing Recount Text. It was held in SMP Tunas Pelita Binjai. The objective of the study was to find Think-Pair-Share techniques effect on teaching students'. The population of this study was the eighth-grade students of SMP Tunas Pelita Binjai. The subject of the study was 36 students. There are two classes and each class consist of 18 students. There were six meetings in the research. One meeting was for the pre-test for each class, four meetings for teaching technique and another one meeting for the post-test for each class. The post-test was held in the last meeting. In the pre-test, the students were asked to write a recount text. The average of the students’ scores by Think-Pair-Share was 63.2, and the post-test was 77,2. The average of the students’ scores by Conventional Class was 62.6 and the post-test was 67,7. The result is 7.36 >5.1 > 2.92. It means that the Think-Pair-Share technique effect on teaching students, writing recount text. The more significant technique for this case is Think-Pair-Share is more significant than the Conventional Method. The study demonstrates that teaching and learning by following the Think-Pair-Share techniques can use in writing recount text. I hope this result is able be used by other teachers to enable students to write recount texts.

Abstract

This research aims to know: (1) the differences of problems solving mathematics ability between the students who taught problem-based learning with guided discovery, (2) the interaction between the learning model and the initial ability of mathematics towards problem-solving mathematis ability. This research is a quasi-experimental research. The research population was eighth grade junior high school students of SMP Negeri 5 Stabat, then have two classes of ninth grade. The instrument used test of problems solving mathematics ability. Data analysis is used by analysis of variance (ANOVA) two lines. The results showed that (1) there are differences of problems solving mathematics ability between between the students who taught problem-based learning with guided discovery, where the application of problem based learning model is better than students who received learning guided discovery to problems solving mathematics ability, (2) there is no interaction between the learning model and initial ability of mathematics towards problem-solving mathematics ability. This shows that the contribution of jointly given by learning model with the initial ability of mathematics students do not have a significant effect on the development of students‘s problems solving mathematics ability.

Abstract

The aims of this research is to determine a learning model that can further improve the learning outcomes of chemistry, communicative characters, and the character of students' curiosity on chemistry solutions in high school. The study population was all high school students of class XI IPA in the even semester of the 2013/2014 Academic Year who were taught with curriculum materials in 2013. The samples studied were taken by purposive sampling, namely students of SMA Negeri 1, SMA Negeri 2 and SMA Negeri 7 Medan (respectively as many as three classes and each class consists of 27 students). Each of the three classes was given a treatment in the form of a different learning model. Furthermore, the class that is treated with the direct instruction learning model is called experimental class 1, the class that is treated as a project-based learning model without media is called the experimental class 2, and the class that is treated as a project-based learning model with internet media is called the experimental class 3. collecting student learning outcomes data in the experimental class 1, experimental class 2, and experimental class 3 with the same objective test form, while the instrument used to measure character data from each of the experimental classes is a questionnaire. Data analysis technique used one way ANAVA with SPSS 19 for windows at a significance level α = 0.05. The results showed that: (1) There were significant differences in student chemistry learning outcomes between students who were taught with direct instruction learning models and project-based learning models without media and project-based learning models with internet media on Chemistry Solutions, (2) There were differences curiosity characters of students taught with direct instruction learning models and project-based learning models without media and project-based learning models with internet media, (3) There are differences in the communicative characters of students taught with direct instruction learning models and project-based learning models without media and project-based learning models with internet media, (4) There is a significant relationship between the character of curiosity with the learning outcomes of students taught with the project-based learning model with internet media, (5) There is a significant relationship between communicative characters with student learning outcomes taught by direct instruction learning models, and project-based learning models without media and project-based learning models with internet media, and (6) learning outcomes, curiosity characters, and communicative characters of students taught with learning based models project with the best internet media.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to analyze the influenced of education background,training and development, and academic supervision on the professional competence of Accounting teachers at the SMK (Vocational Schools) in Langkat Regency with motivation as moderating variable. The research used causal associative method. The population was 45 SMK Accounting teachers in Langkat Regency as the respondents, and all of them were used as the samples (total sampling). Primary data were gathered by distributing questionnaire to the respondents and analyzed by using multiple regression analysis and residual test. The result of the research showed that educational background, training and development, and academic supervision simultaneously had positive and significant influence on professional competence of SMK Accounting teachers in Langkat Regency. Partially, educational background, training, and development had positive and significant influence on professional competence of SMK Accounting teachers in Langkat Regency, while academic supervision did not have any significant influence on SMK Accounting teachers in Langkat Regency. Motivation was not able to moderate the correlation of educational background, training and development, and academic supervision with professional competence of SMK Accounting teachers in Langkat Regency.
