Abstract

Introduction: Acute respiratory infection (ARIs) is acute infection attacks human respiratory tract. The disease becomes one of the public health problems in Indonesia especially for under-five children. One of the causes of ARI is unsuitable in preventing and caring behavior. It needs special attention because of high disease number in puskesmas. Health education which has been done isspeech method to many people. But personal counseling method has never done. The study aims to analyze behavior of mother in preventing and caring ARI in children under-five in working area Puskesmas Bangkalan. Methods: This research used quasy experimental design and population mother who had children with acute respiratory infection. The sampling used purpossive sampling technique, based on inclusion criteria, used 32 mothers consist of 16 people as experiment group and 16 people as control group. Data collected by questioner and analysed by wilcoxon signed rank test and mann whitney test with significant value p≤0.05. Results: The result statistically showed there was difference between pre and post for knowledge (p=0.025), attitude (p=0.007), and action (p=0.001) in experiment group and there was difference between control and experiment group for knowledge (p=0.007), attitude (p=0.005), and action (p=0.003).Discussion: The results concluded that counselling had effect to preventing and caring behavior of mother in working area Puskesmas Bangkalan. Suggestion for next researcher is we need further experiment about effect of counselling to mother’s behavior using other research method in order to generalizethe result

Abstract

Introduction: Obesity is a metabolic disease in children and adults.gobak sodor play is one of those games that can be given to school-age children to increase physical activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of playing therapy gobak sodor changes in anthropometry school-age children who are obese at SDN Kedungdoro V No.310 Surabaya. Methods: A Quasy Experimental method was used in this study. Population was obese children at SDN Keungdoro V No.310 since May–June 2013. Respondents were 20 children who were taken by purposive sampling. Independent variable was playing therapy:go back through the door. Dependent variable was antropometry. Data were collected by using observation sheet and was analyzed by Paired T-Test and Independent TTestwith significance level of p≤0.05.Result: The result of this study showed that playing therapy: go back through the door had changed BMI and abdominal circumferenceon anthropometric but had no effect on upper arm circumference in school-age children whith obese in SDN Kedungdoro V No.310 Surabaya with t-test. In the treatment group BMI paired t-test p=0.000, abdominal circumference p=0.002 and upper arm circumference p=0.002, while in the control group BMI paired t-testp=0.228, abdominal circumference p=0.168 and upper arm circumference p=0.168, independent ttest BMI p=0.002, abdominal circumference p=0.000 and upper arm circumference p=0.771.Discussion: This concluded that go back through the doorplaying therapy could affect only on BMI and abdominal circumference among obese children. Further research, focus to analyze on confounding factors such dietary and activities on obese children is needed.

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a degenerative disease with high prevalence that happens in many countries and high risk of causing death. The objective of this study is to know the effect of decoction by Allium cepa L on blood glucose level regulation in mice with diabetes mellitus.Method: This study was used a true experimental pre post test design with 30 samples, 8-12 weeks old-male mice, and 20-30 grams in weight. The mices were divided into five groups (normal control group, diabetes control group without treatment, treatment group with 3 gram/kg of decoction, treatment group with 4 gram/kg of decoction and treatment group with 5 gram/kg ofdecoction). The independent variable was Allium cepa L decoction (1cc) as a treatment, which is given per oral. Furthermore, the dependent variable was blood glucose level after 7 days treatment with Allium cepa L decoction.Result: The result showed that there were some differences between the treatment group and the diabetes control group without treatment for blood glucose level after giving treatment with Allium cepa L decoction (p<0.005). in other hand, there was no significant result between the normal group and the treatment group for blood glucose level after giving treatment with Allium cepa L decoction 5 gram/kg bb (p>0.005). Allium cepa L contains many substances which has many function to regulate blood glucose level.Discussion: It can be concluded that Allium cepa L decoction (5 gram/kg bb in 1 cc) is adequate for regulating blood glucose level in diabetes mellitus mice after 7 days treatment

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the chronic disease characterized by elevation of blood glucose concentration. Non-adherence to diabetes treatment increases the risk of disease complication. Family support is an important thing to determine adherence scale in diabetes treatmenteffort. The aim of this study was to identify correlating of family support with physical activity and insulin therapy adherence in patient with type 1 DM.Methods: A cross sectional design was used in this study. The population of this study was all of patient with type 1 diabetes mellitus that ever examination to the internal diseases polyclinic. Total sample was 58 respondents, taken withpurposive sampling technique. The independent variable was family support, and the dependent variables were physical activity adherence and insulin therapy adherence. Data were collecting used questionnaire and analyzed using Spearman’s Rho with α≤0.05.Result: Result showed that 32,76% patient with type 1 DM had good family support, 63,8% had good enough family support, and 3,44% had less family support. Researcher found that 56,9% patient had physical activity adherence and 81,1% patient had insulin therapy adherence (34,5% for good adherence and 46,6% for good enough adherence). Therapy adherence in patient with type 1 DM had significant correlation with family support (ρ=0.000, r=0.553 for physical activity and ρ=0.000, r=0.509 for insulin therapy). Conclusion: It can be concluded that family support has correlation with physical activity and insulin therapy adherence. Further studies need to identify the correlation of that variables to each family support dimension to determine the most influence of family support dimension.

Abstract

Introduction: Pulmonary Tuberculosis is caused by Mycrobacterium Tuberculosis lead to lung parenchymal inflammation and reduce the total functional lung. Deep breathing exercises (DBE) is a pulmonary rehabilitation that can be used as an alternative method to maintain the lung function of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. Methods: This study used a quasy experiments design. The population was all patients with pulmonary tuberculosis in Puskesmas Perak Timur Surabaya. The sample was selected using purposive sampling technique. DBE is the independent variable. The dependent variable were the physical changes include peak expiratoty flow rate (PEFR), oxygen saturation, respiratory rate (RR), breath sounds, and dyspnea. Data was collected by observation tools (pulse oximetry, peak flow meters). Data was analyzed using Independent T-test, Paired T-test, Chi Square, and McNemar. Results: The results showed a significant change in breath sounds (p=0,031) and dyspnea (p=0.031) after given DBE, but no significant difference in PEFR (p=0.155), oxygen saturation (p=0,730) and respiratory rate (p=0.125) after given DBE.Conclusions: Nurses can use the DBE as respiratory management intervention in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis and as a basis for making SOP DBE in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis.
