Abstract

The Kappa by Ryunosuke Akutagawa tells about the life of the kappa, a mythological creature that met "I" on his climbing journey. "I" character stumbled, then found himself already in the kappa world. This research will answer: first, how is the reflection of the real world and the possible-world in Kappa's novel?; second, how many of the rules that describe one world are broken by the other? This research used Marie-Laure Ryan's narrative or possible-world concept as the main theory. The method used in this research is descriptive-qualitative. This research concluded two things: first, in the Kappa novel, the dominant condition of the kappa world is described as a possible-world that has an advanced culture, which is pretty similar to what Japan experienced in the 1920s in the real world; and second, the rules that each species breaks (humans and kappa), from the real world to the kappa world, are not explained in detail, except for the part when the "I "is about to return to the human world. Unfortunately, the explanation is still not detailed because it is a transition chapter (from "Part XVI" to "Part XVII"). Also, at the opening of the narration "Part XVII", the narrator has lived an ordinary life (before experiencing symptoms of madness) in the human world. These broken rules happen at the beginning and end of the novel, which means framing the events of the "I "long experience in the kappa world, where he finds a world that is no less vast than the world that humans live inside.

Abstract

The term joshou (prologue) is usually placed at the beginning of a story. However, musical theatre Touken Ranbu Musubi no Hibiki Hajimari no Ne does the exact opposite. This raises the question whether there is a particular purpose for using the term joshou, and not using the term kessho (epilogue). To answer this question, the author uses Riffaterre's theory of poetry semiotics in interpreting the song Joshou. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method by analyzing the data collected and explaining the results of the analyzed data. The data used are the lyrics of Joshou's song from Touken Ranbu’s musical theater. The research steps taken are heuristic reading, connecting Joshou's song lyrics with the musical theater story, performing hermeneutic reading, looking for discontinuity of expression, determining matrix, model, and variant. After analysis, the results show that the song titled Joshou (prologue) is sung at the end of the musical theater performance because there is a message contained in the song in the form of the end of a story is the beginning of the following story. The term kessho (epilogue) is not used since it does not show that the story has ended.

Abstract

The development of kaiwa II teaching materials based on project based learning that pays attention to several aspects of communication (sociolinguistics, turn taking, natural communication), collaboration, creativity, critical thinking and cross-cultural understanding is an urgent need. This is due to the lack of students' ability to use some of these aspects of communication, and the lack of textbooks that explain the characteristics of spoken language in Japanese which is full of cultural content in which there is also a context close to the learner so as to improve cross-cultural understanding skills. This is in line with the idea of learning Japanese based on the JF Standard and 21st century skills. Project based learning is a method that can be applied in kaiwa learning, based on the results of Yuniarsih's research in 2004, 2005 which proves that the application of drama in kaiwa learning can improve skills. student communication, as well as supported by several other relevant research. This research is a follow-up study on the analysis of the needs for Kaiwa II teaching materials which was carried out in 2019 and a feasibility test in 2021. In this 2022 study, an experiment was conducted on the application of textbooks as a product of previous research. This textbook has been validated by experts in Japanese linguistics and language education. The experimental results in quantitative research on 23 students taking Kaiwa II courses, it is known that the application of textbooks in Kaiwa II learning can improve communication skills. Thus, this textbook is effective in learning Kaiwa II and can be used as a reference as a textbook.
