Abstract

This research was conducted online using Zoom cloud meetings and studied and analyzed the improvement of junior high school students' creative thinking skills through problem-based and conventional learning. This study uses a quantitative method designed with a nonequivalent control group experimental pattern. The sample is 75 people, not taken randomly from two different classes. One class is problem-based learning, and another is conventional learning. Data collection was carried out using tests, namely the pretest and the posttest. They measure the increase in creative thinking skills using normalized N-Gain. The data were analyzed using an independent sample t-test. The study found that the problem-based learning model was more influential than conventional learning in improving junior high school students' mathematical creative thinking skills. Problem-based and conventional learning can improve junior high school students' mathematical and creative thinking skills.

Abstract

The equal sign seems to be interpreted differently by students depending on the learning experiences they have had in the early grades. In fact, the interpretation of the equal sign as a relational symbol does not seem easy or fast for many students to understand. This study aims to explore how students from elementary school to college students describe their understanding of the equal sign. The Qualitative Comparative Analysis can be used to analyze several cases in complex situations so that it fits the purpose of this study. The process of collecting data through the method of written assignments, semi-structured interviews, and documentation was carried out in one time period. This study involved 30 participants in Bandung, Indonesia. The results show that although there are substantial differences in viewing the equal sign, there are similarities in terms of dependence on computational methods in drawing conclusions. This is related to how their experience of number sentences in lower grades places more emphasis on rules than on the meaning of concepts.

Abstract

The problem in this study regarding learning mathematics is the low student learning outcomes because the appropriate method is not used in learning, which causes the teaching and learning process to be less than optimal. This is evidenced by the fact that only 13 students (48.14%) of the 27 students were able to achieve the KKM score. The purpose of this study was to improve the results of learning mathematics in circle material by applying the STAD cooperative model to class VI students at SDN 002 Bagan Besar Dumai. The type of research used is classroom action research (CAR). The research was carried out in two cycles, each cycle going through four stages: planning, implementing learning improvements, collecting data, and reflecting. Based on the stages of the research conducted, it was found that the percentage of student learning outcomes in cycle I was 70.74%, increasing to 84.07% in cycle II. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of the STAD cooperative learning model can improve mathematics learning outcomes in circle material for students at SDN 002 Bagan Besar Dumai in the 2022-2023 academic year.

Abstract

The ability to understand concepts is an ability that supports students' ability to solve problems. However, psychological factors in the form of mathematical self-efficacy and gender, which are factors influencing this ability, have not been investigated much. The purpose of this study was to determine the ability to understand concepts based on mathematical self-efficacy and gender in problem-based learning situations. The one-shot case study design was applied to 70 grade 8 junior high school students in one of the schools in Mataram City selected by the purposive sampling technique. Data collection uses a concept understanding ability test, a mathematical self-efficacy questionnaire, and gender categorization. Data analysis techniques used were the one-sample t-test and the Anacova test. The results of the study show that the PBL model can assist students in developing conceptual understanding skills. Subsequent findings state that mathematical self-efficacy and gender are factors that determine students' ability to understand concepts.

Abstract

This type of research is known as classroom action research (CAR), and it employs both descriptive and qualitative methods. The purpose of this study was to describe how to improve the mathematical problem-solving abilities of PTI 3E class students at STKIP Al Maksum, with a total of 30 students. This research was carried out in the odd semester of the 2022–2023 academic year. The object of this research is to improve students' mathematical problem-solving skills through the project-based learning (PjBL) model on graph material for discrete mathematics courses. The research instruments used were a test of mathematical problem-solving abilities and observation sheets. The results showed that there was an increase in the number of students who achieved completion in solving mathematical problems in cycle I by 20% and in cycle II by 26.7%. The increase in problem-solving ability has reached the target or process indicator, namely 85% of students who obtain a minimum problem-solving ability percentage of 60% of students who take tests in the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to determine differences in mathematical communication abilities between students in classes receiving take-and-give learning and students in classes receiving conventional learning. This research is experimental, with a quasi-experimental research design with a nonequivalent control group research design. The data collection technique used a five-problem student mathematical communication test, and the data analysis included prerequisite tests (normality test and homogeneity test), while the hypothesis test used a two-mean comparison test (t test). The results of the tests that have been carried out show that the calculated t value is greater than the t table value. Thus, it can be concluded that students' mathematical communication abilities with the application of the take and give learning model are better than their mathematical communication abilities with conventional learning on triangle material in grade 7.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' problem-solving abilities in solving problems on flat-sided geometric shapes by applying Edmodo-assisted blended learning. This research method uses qualitative methods with a descriptive approach. This study describes students' mathematical problem-solving abilities in the process of learning mathematics with the help of Edmodo. The subjects used in this research were class VIII-A students at MTsS Al-Washliyah Pulau Gambar, which currently consists of 20 students. The data collection used was in the form of math problem-solving ability tests and interviews. Based on the results of the study, which showed that the problem-solving abilities of students with the help of Edmodo were able to provide an understanding of the problems of questions on flat-sided geometric material, The results of the percentage of problem-solving abilities in the high-level category are 50%, the medium-level percentage is 25%, and the low-level percentage is 25%. To further strengthen the results, a sample of five students will be interviewed at various levels of ability. However, students showed a positive response to Edmodo-assisted learning media.
