Abstract

German is taught as a foreign language in high schools or universities. Four basic language skills, namely listening, reading, speaking and writing are to be acquired. Listening and reading comprehension are receptive skills, while speaking and writing skills are productive skills. In reality, many german learners have difficulty reading. Teachers need to have proper reading strategies that can make it easier for german learners to understand text. Difficulties in reading comprehension or a general overstrain with the selected teaching texts can result in a lack of motivation to learn.  It could be that a technique used does not fit in the class. One strategy that can be used is the KWL (Know, Want to Know, Learned) reading strategy. The effect of this is that german learners become active themselves in the classroom and also show more motivation, as they can work together to develop titles, images and explanations of a text. The teacher is available to provide learners with information related to the topic. Then the topic is discussed together.  Then the learners write a few questions and try to determine them independently into information categories.  Finally they do a mapping and write a little résumé. They will also present their completed assignment while the teacher gives them comments. It has emerged from this that the use of technology in the class is more interested in reading lessons or also answer. They then discuss it with the others in order to awaken German learning.

Abstract

This study describes cultural exploration that is used as a source of learning, this is related to how to introduce culture which can be done through art learning in formal activities and informal activities. Through the exploration of traditional culture, in this case the art of dance, efforts to preserve, introduce, inherit, and develop traditional arts become part of strengthening attitudes in understanding norms, values in society. "Tortor" as one of the traditional arts of the Batak tribe becomes one of the subjects of learning in formal activities and becomes a must-have competency, also in informal activities. In the learning process, knowledge is not only given in text (dance form), but the context of the dance is a part that must be introduced as local content. This is done as a strengthening of the knowledge of graduates as prospective teachers, who function as motivators, facilitators, and how to present them in class so that PBM can be successful. However, in the learning process there are still many obstacles, especially the lack of learning resources related to the cultural context of the community, as a basis for understanding in learning traditional dance. Especially with technological advances that require lecturers to be more creative in the process of transferring knowledge. Based on this, the aim of this research is to focus on exploring Batak culture in relation to the preservation of traditional arts as a learning resource. The research was conducted by observation, interview, and recording.

Abstract

The revitalization of the Gendang Binge was carried out due to the loss of the main function of the Gendang Binge in traditional Karo Langkat arts due to the dominant influence of the keyboard in various traditional ceremonies in the Karo Langkat community. The drums of Binge are made of old jackfruit wood which is dried first so that the sound of the drums does not change after the skin is attached. The Binge drum is divided into 2 types, namely the Indung drum and the children's drum. Gendang Binge indung is 19 cm long, with a top cover of 12.5 cm and a bottom cover of 6.5 cm, while the drum for children is 19 cm long, with a top cover of 10 cm and a bottom cover of 8 cm. The material used for the membrane or skin for the Binge drum is napuh skin (a type of endemic animal rabbit) in the Karo highlands, while to tie the skin to the wood used cowhide and for sticks using kaffir lime wood. Some of the techniques in playing Gendang Binge include: Tang and Tih are used to produce the sound of the Gendang Binge ovary, while for Tang and Cek to produce the sound character of the children of Gendang Binge. To produce Tang in the ovary of the Gendang Binge, the large stick must be struck on the edge of the drum, while for Tih the large stick is struck right in the middle of the membrane of the Gendang Binge. To produce a Tang sound from the child's Gendang Binge, the stick is hit on the edge of the lips and must hit the membrane, while to produce a Check sound, the drum stick is hit and pressed at the same time in the middle of the membrane.
