Abstract

Anxiety and pain are problems that often occur in patients with chronic diseases. One of the goals of palliative care is to relieve physical symptoms that are felt and other things that make physical and psychological stress. Alternative and complementary medicine approaches can be an option for palliative patients and families where conventional treatment has not been able to reduce or relieve the symptoms they feel. : Complementary therapies can be provided to patients receiving palliative care, to integrate a multi-professional palliative approach. The development of effective intervention selection is very important for the success of its treatment. Guided imagination is one of the complementary therapies that can provide physical and psychological benefits. Therefore, the purpose of this literature study was to determine the effectiveness of guided imaginary relaxation in reducing anxiety and pain levels in palliative patients. Methods: This literature review was compiled using the databases of EBSCOHost, Clinical Key Nursing and Sage Journal. Four articles were obtained that were following the randomized control randomization research method. Results: After further analysis of the four articles, guided imagination techniques accompanied by music were more effective in reducing pain and anxiety and could increase feelings of well-being when combined with other complementary therapies such as progressive muscle relaxation and hand massage. Conclusion: Within the various complementary therapies available, each aims to develop a holistic balance for the individual by enhancing physical, psychological, and spiritual well-being. Guided imagery helps patients by diverting their attention from the disease, its associated side effects, negative thoughts, and emotions, and focusing instead on pleasant things.

Abstract

The use of insecticide-treated nets is an effort to reduce the incidence of malaria in the community. The Ministry of Health routinely distributes mosquito nets through the mass netting program to people in malaria-endemic areas. Mimika Regency is a district with high endemicity, with an API of 289.06 per 1000 population. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between people's knowledge, attitudes, and behavior in Timika City when it comes to preventing malaria by using insecticide-treated mosquito nets. This research was conducted using a cross-sectional study design from June through August 2022 in Timika City, Mimika Regency. The number of sample respondents planned for this study amounted to 73 respondents spread across 9 districts in Timika City. The sample selection was carried out by incidental sampling. The data were described univariately and bivariately with chi-square analysis. The 104 respondents who obtained the most were in Kamoro Jaya (21.2%); the largest age group was aged 31–40 years (34.6%); and 52.9% of respondents did not work. Respondents who had good knowledge of the use of mosquito nets were 38 (36.5%); those with positive attitudes towards the use of mosquito nets were 40 (38.4%); and those with good behavior towards the use of mosquito nets were 34 (32.6%). From the results of the chi-square test, knowledge, attitudes, and behavior have not significantly reduced the incidence of malaria in Timika City. The incidence of malaria in an area cannot only be reduced by increasing the knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of the community toward using mosquito nets. However, there are other risk factors that play a role; therefore, further research is needed to determine the most dominant risk factor that can reduce the incidence of malaria.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many social problems, especially the decline in the quality of health due to the lack of people's sources of income. The cultivation of organic medicinal plants in the community is a solution to improve the degree of health and help the community's economic recovery. The community does not have the understanding and ability to cultivate organic medicinal plants and use them as medicine and a source of income. This program aims to promote understanding, capability, and implementation of methods for cultivating organic medicinal plants, post-harvest processing, and their use as medicine and generate household-level economic value. The mentoring process lasted for six months in Penatih Village. Assistance is carried out by providing understanding, knowledge, and practice in developing organic medicinal plants through workshops and assisting the governance of land use, cultivation results, and their use for medicine and economic value. Evaluation of the community's knowledge, understanding, and skills is carried out through post-program interviews. The assistance results show that the community feels the impact of the organic medicinal plant seeds provided. Planting organic herbal medical plants and generating herbal medicinal raw materials with high economic value, such as empon- empon (rhizomes), to raise people's family income increases their knowledge, understanding, and abilities of land management governance. This activity is meant to be long-lasting so that the Organic Herbal Medicine Tourism Village can be built in Penatih Village and help the area's economy.
