Abstract

Retinoic acid is one of the essential compounds added to night cream as it can remove dead skin cells, resulting in a white effect on the skin. However, it has a dangerous risk on the skin, which can cause inflammation, such as burning, stinging, redness, erythema, and hardening skin, and carcinogens if used for more than 6 months in a row. This study aimed to analyze the content of retinoic acid and determine its levels of retinoic acid. The samples selected were 10 night cream products circulating in Pekalongan City. This research was conducted qualitatively using thin layer chromatography with the mobile phase of n-hexane and 1% glacial acetic acid in ethanol (9:1). In the quantitative aspect, this study used UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The results obtained in thin layer chromatography obtained that the sample Rf value was the same as the standard Rf value of retinoic acid, which was 0.28, while the samples E, F, G, H, I, and J were 0.28. The UV-Vis spectrophotometry obtained retinoic acid levels that exceed the standard level from the National Food and Drug Agency (BPOM), which is 0.05%. The retinoic acid level of sample E was 0.08%, and sample F was 0.09%, respectively.

Abstract

Domestic pharmaceutical industry is capable of procuring around 75% of drug needs for Indonesian market. However, 90% of raw materials for medicines in Indonesia are still imported. This shows that structure of pharmaceutical industry is not yet optimal and limited to formulation, so it is necessary to optimize research and innovation activities, especially development of pharmaceutical raw materials. Collaboration between government/institutions, pharmaceutical industry, and researchers/academicians is needed in realizing the independence of pharmaceutical raw materials. The policy measure of Presidential Instruction Number 6 of 2016 concerning the Acceleration of the Development of the Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices Industry aims to accelerate the development and self-sufficiency of domestic BBO production. Innovation to build domestic BBO industry is carried out by considering Rencana Induk Pembangunan Industri Nasional (RIPIN) 2015-2035. Based on BPOM RI data for 2022, there are 13 or around 5.8% of industries that produce pharmaceutical raw materials from all pharmaceutical industries in Indonesia. The government has made policies and programs to support development of pharmaceutical industry in the self-sufficiency of pharmaceutical raw materials. Policies that have been issued by the government, namely in the form of: 1) Fiscal incentives 2) TKDN 3) Kawasan Industri Terpadu (KIT) 4) Supervision by BPOM. The growth trend for drug and BBO needs in 2035 will increase by 7% per year and is expected to reach IDR 248 trillion for drug needs and IDR 79 trillion for BBO. This shows that the independence of pharmaceutical raw materials needs to be optimized in the development of the pharmaceutical industry in Indonesia. Abstract

FMD (Foot and Mouth Disease) in Cattle has become an Epizootic in Indonesian society. FMD is very easy to spread in a cattle community, giving rise to an epizootic. This triggers panic on both the buyer and trader side of the cow ahead of Eid al-Adha which will be held on July 10 2022. This literature review aims to increase public awareness and government sensitivity regarding the impact of the recent FMD outbreak and provide an overview of the effect of Curcuma longa on increasing the body's immunity so that it can prevent the spread of FMD (mouth and foot disease) in cattle. The method used is literature review. Article sources were obtained through several databases such as Google Scholar, ProQuest, Sciencedirect, Pubmed, Scopus which were published in 1997 to 2022. The author finds that the number of FMD cases that infect livestock such as cows, buffaloes, goats and pigs has experienced a regular increase in the number of cases. On the other hand, the authors found that Curcuma longa extract could stimulate the production of various types of cytokines, including IFN-γ and IL-2. Therefore, with the increasing number of FMD epizootic cases in Indonesia, the authors conclude that Curcuma longa can be used as a curative effort in eradicating the spread of the FMD virus

Abstract

Introduction: Self-medication is an attempt to treat minor ailments independently before consulting to a doctor. In Indonesia, self-medication is always increasing every year. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the percentage of the Indonesian population who self-medicated in 2020-2022 is 72.19%, 84.23%, and 84.34% respectively. Self-medication that is carried out has the potential for errors in disease diagnosis, delays in searching for the necessary treatment, inaccurate doses, and wrong administration methods. Therefore, knowledge is needed to carry out self-medication so as to prevent medication errors. Methods: The method used in this research is a literature study from various journals and websites using Mendeley and Harzing's Publish or Perish as sources (digital libraries). Result: The focus group discussion (FGD) method has a significant effect on increasing public knowledge about self-medication with the posttest scores of all respondents experiencing an increase indicating the range of assessments is in the good category. Then in the second article using online media there is a sufficient percentage of 4.48%. However, this education can contribute to increasing public knowledge about self-medication. Education using leaflet media and the Active Individual Learning Method (CBIA) method can increase public knowledge about self-medication. Conclusion: Education to the public can increase knowledge about self-medication. Of the three methods used, the method that most increased public knowledge about self-medication was focus group discussions (FGD) by holding discussions so that participants could be more active and understand the material more easily.
