Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus type 2 (DMT2) is the most common type of diabetes and affects more than 90% of people with diabetes. Increasing age causes changes in carbohydrate metabolism and insulin release, which is influenced by blood sugar and inhibits the release of sugar into cells because it is influenced by insulin. The risk of diabetes mellitus increases with age, especially at 40 years and above. It happens because of the increase in sugar intolerance in people aged 40 and above. Objectives: This study aims to determine the description of serum creatinine levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at the age of 40 years and above. Methods: The research design is cross-sectional with inclusion criteria, namely DMT2 patients aged 40 years and above, and conducting examinations at the Prodia clinical laboratory, Banda Aceh branch, from January to May 2022. Samples were taken by accidental sampling, totaling 59 people. Data were collected by interview and laboratory examination to measure creatinine levels using the automatic analyzer method. The reference value for serum creatinine examination in men is 0,7-1,3 mg/dl and in women 0,6-1,1 mg/dl. Data analysis was done descriptively. Results: DMT2 patients aged 40 years and above were predominantly male (55,9%), and the frequency based on age range was mainly between 56-65 years (37,3%). As many as 16,9% of DMT2 patients aged 40 years and over had increased serum creatinine levels, although there were also 83,1% normal creatinine levels. Conclusion: DMT2 patients aged 40 years and above are dominant in men compared to women; the increase in creatinine levels do not show such a high value.

Abstract

Background: Noise is unwanted sound or noise because it disturbs or arises against the will of the person concerned. The recommended noise threshold value is 85 dB at 8 hours of working time. Humans need lighting to recognize objects that affect vision: the eyes, nerves, and the visual nerve center of the brain. When noise is above the threshold value of lighting (300 Lux), this can lead to health problems or potential occupational hazards. Objectives: The study aims to determine the relationship between noise intensity and welding light illumination and health problems in Banda Aceh City welding workshop workers. Methods: Observational research with a cross-sectional design was conducted in Banda Aceh City in 2021. The sample was 30 welding workshop workers in 6 different places. Data collection was carried out by interview using a questionnaire, observation through a checklist, and interview. Data processing was done in stages: editing, coding, entry, and cleaning data—statistical analysis using the Chi-square test at a 95% confidence level. Results: The study's results on the noise variable due to work obtained a p-value= 0,330, so there is no relationship between noise and health problems in welding workshop workers (p> 0,05). While the lighting variable caused by welding obtained a p-value= 1,000, this also does not show a relationship between lighting (welding light) with health problems of welding workshop workers (p> 0,05) in Banda Aceh City. Conclusion: Noise intensity and lighting (welding light) have no association with health problems among welding workshop workers in Banda Aceh city. However, workers must follow SOPs and pay attention to PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to prevent health problems and avoid work accidents.

Abstract

Background: Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is one of the bacteria that contribute to the occurrence of infectious diseases, such as mastitis, dermatitis, respiratory tract infections, and toxic shock syndrome. Therapy that can be given to patients with Staphylococcus aureus infection is antibiotics, but inappropriate antibiotics can cause resistance. Using herbal ingredients is an effort to deal with resistance due to the incompatibility of antibiotic administration. The essential herbal ingredients for therapy, namely lime extract (Citrus aurantifolia) and honey, have antibacterial substances such as flavonoids and essential oils. Objectives: The study aims to measure the combination of lime extract and honey in increasing the inhibition of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Methods: Experimental research using a combination of lime and honey extracts, single preparation of lime juice (Citrus aurantifolia), and single preparation of honey with concentrations of 100%, 75%, 50%, and 25%, as well as gentamycin antibiotics as positive control and NaCl 0,85% as a negative control. The research was conducted at the Microbiology Laboratory, Department of Medical Laboratory Technology, Aceh Health Polytechnic, Ministry of Health, in May 2021. The experimental method used in this study is the diffusion method. Data were obtained by observing the study's results of increasing the inhibition of the combination of lime juice and honey against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Data analysis by measuring the average diameter of the antimicrobial inhibition zone against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Results: The combination of lime extract and honey can form a more significant inhibition against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus compared to a single preparation of lime juice at concentrations of 100% and 75%. While at concentrations of 50% and 25%, no more significant inhibition was formed than in the single preparation. Conclusion: The combination of lime extract and honey can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus.
