Abstract

Malaria is an infectious disease caused by Plasmodium, which is a single-celled creature that belongs to the group of protozoa. This disease attacks all age groups, both men and women. Malaria can cause death especially in high risk groups namely infants, children under five, pregnant women, besides malaria directly causes anemia and can reduce work productivity. The study design uses a complete randomized design  with 4 treatment groups. Group 1 is the control group without any treatment. Group 2 was injected with 1 × 102 iRBC. Group 3 is injected with 1 × 103 iRBC. Group 4 was injected with 1 × 104. The treatment was given for 30 days. Measurement of body weight was done every day. Examination of the degree of parasitemia was carried out on day 3 after infection with the thin blood smear method. Data measured body weight and degree of parasitemia were analyzed by one way ANOVA and DMRT tests at a significant level of 5%. The results showed a significant difference in body weight between mice infected with parasites versus those not infected. The more doses of parasites that were infected the more it will affect the mice. The conclusion of this research is P. berghei infection gives weight loss effect on balb/c mice. Keywords: malaria, Plasmodium berghei, weight

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk mengetahui perkembangan bobot tubuh, warna tubuh, dan kualitas suara burung perkutut (Geopelia striata) berdasarkan jenis makanan yang telah di tentukan. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Januari – Maret 2017. Penelitian ini juga menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL), terdiri dari 5 ulangan dan 5 perlakuan. Bahan yang di gunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah burung perkutut sebanyak 25 ekor berumur 4-6 bulan dan dipelihara selama 10 (sepuluh) minggu, makanan burung perkutut seperti pur, biji-bijian, dan ekstrak daun. Hasil penelitian yaitu adanya pengaruh perlakuan terhadap jenis makanan berupa pur, biji – bijian, dan ekstrak daun, hasil penelitian ini tidak menunjukkan perbedaan nyata, namun ada indikasi bahwa ekstrak daun dapat meningkatkan daya tahan tubuh burung perkutut sehingga memberikan respon terhadap tingkat konsumsi pakan yang implikasinya terlihat pada peningkatan kandungan kadar gross energynya (3180 kal/gr), kadar protein kasarnya (9,75%) dan juga kandungan lemak kasarnya (1,51%) dalam plasma darah yang berpengaruh pada durasi suara dan bobot tubuh burung perkutut (Geopelia striata). Tidak ada perubahan warna bulu pada burung perkutut dimana warna pada burung perkutut tetap sama yaitu berwarna coklat abu – abu hingga penelitian terakhir.

Abstract

Reclamation is an activity aimed at improving or managing the use of disturbed land as a result of mining business activities, in order to be functional and efficient according to its allocation. Mining reclamation activities should be carefully planned so that the land can be utilized optimally by the government and communities around the mine. Reclamation in Indonesia has been done in several mining areas. Reclamation activities that have been carried out, among others, exist in three regions in Indonesia, namely in Jambi, Bangka and South Kalimantan are considered less effective, due to lack of public participation and errors of reclamation technology. To avoid obstacles from reclamation, an effective reclamation activity is required. In general, reclamation can be done in three stages: land preparation, planting and maintenance.

Abstract

Tumbuhan Ericaceae merupakan salah satu jenis tumbuhan tumbuhan monokotil berbatang tunggal maupun berumpun. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Juni sampai Juli 2018 di  kawasan hutan Taman Nasional Gunung Leuser Desa Telagah Kabupaten Langkat dengan melakukan prosedur penelitian deskriptif dengan teknik observasi.  Berdasarkan hasil pengamatan diperoleh 13 jenis Araceae, dengan 4 marga Araceae.  Genus Calamusmemiliki jumlah jenis yang paling banyak yaitu 7 jenis, kemudian dari Genus Daemonoropsdan Korthasia yaitu masing-masing 2 jenis, selanjutnya dari Genus Plepcomiopsis  yaitu 1 jenis.Keywords : Areaceae, Tumbuhan monokotil, Taman Nasional Gunung Leuser

Abstract

This research aimed to study Piridoksin (Vitamin B6) status in blood sample of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) children. Deductive research using the descriptive method through 2 stage, namely : (1) Taken of blood sample, and (2) Analysis of Piridoksin (Vitamin B6) status in blood sample was performed by using High Performance Liquid Chromatograpy (HPLC) method. Data collected and assessed by once in one time. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis techniques and Chi Square tests (X2) by Computer programs (SPSS 15). The result of the assessment of Piridoksin (Vitamin B6) status in blood sample of ADHD children that had been was considered statistically highly significant a reduce of the assessment of Piridoksin (Vitamin B6) status in blood sample of ADHD children by 0,422 ng/ml compared with laboratory reference (control) by 0,36-1,8 ng/ml, HA<C** (p<0,001). This was considered a reduction in Piridoksin (Vitamin B6)) concentrations induces of the Hyperactivity children by 95%.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to ascertain that the processing of waste egg shells, onion skins, and dried leaves can be organic fertilizer through the process of science and technology as a product that is environmentally friendly and high economic value. This research method is descriptive only quantitative. Research results showed that the waste chicken egg shells, onion skins, and dried mango leaves can be processed into organic fertilizer with high levels of nutrients for organic fertilizer from the eggshell is N 0.18% (medium), P content of 7% (medium) , and levels of C 8% (moderate), substance C - Organic 5.2% (very high), C / N of 30 (very high), for fertilizers from onion skin that is N 0.13% (moderate), the levels of P 4 % (moderate), and levels of C 5% (medium), substance C - Organic 4.8% (high), C / N 23 (high), for fertilizers from the dried leaves are N 0.16% (medium), P content of 6% (moderate), and K content of 5.8% (moderate), substance C - Organic 4% (high), C / N 25 (high), that is worth selling high and can compete, Marketing is done in a flower sales with sales revenue was approximately 8 burlap sack 5 kg of the total sales of 12 jute from each - each organic fertilizer.

Abstract

Echinoidea (Phylum Echinodermata) is an aquatic biota that has economic value both economic and ecologic. Echinoidea has the characteristics of thorns which can be used as one of the characters in identification and classification. One of classify Echinoidea is to use the numerical-phenetic method. This method was groups each species according to the morphological similarities observed and account. This study aims to determine the types of Echinoidea and its important to grouping because it has important economic value in the fisheries sector and in conducting the data collection of Echinoidea biodiversity. This study used 7 species of Echinoidea namely Tripneustes sp., Euchinotrix sp., Euchinometra sp., Diadema sp., Stomopneustes sp., Heterocentrotus sp., and Colobocentrotus sp. This study used descriptive qualitative method. Analysis data used MVSV 3.1 application for similarity matrix (Simple Matching Coefficient and Jacard Coefficient) and dendogram. The results showed thorns as a characteristic in the classification of Echinoidea. Echinoidea classification shows two groups that have the highest value, namely Euchinotrix sp., And Diadema sp with 80% similarity value and Colobocentrotus sp with Echinometra, sp which is 76% (Simple Matching Coefficient). Whereas based on Jacard Coefficient the two groups have the same similarity value of 53%. Keywords: numeric-fenetic, echinoidea, similarity

Abstract

Science is an important part of man because it plays a major role in changing the mindset of man. Education is a human medium for gaining knowledge. The world of education, especially biology is a science that studies the knowledge of living things in the universe consists of humans, plants and animals, they have a cell with a unique name and very difficult to remember. Dictionaries are books containing terms, meanings and words used as a tool to translate the language. The dictionary is usually physically always thick so that when taken will be heavy and takes place. Bioinformatics is defined as the application of computational tools and analysis to capture and interpret biological data. The design of a cell term dictionary application so that it is easily searched for its cell term is part of the result of bioinformatics, and to generate a computerized search term that is difficult to use Boyer Moore algorithm. The Boyer Moore algorithm is the best string matching algorithm due to its ability to quickly match the searched strings. Application of Bayor Moore algorithm in dictionary application required design of process model using DFD and design database can be easily implemented to application system

Abstract

These days, computer technology has been a great need to us humans, especially in medical experts, which evaluated to adopt humans’ ability and knowledge to the computers. So that the computer is capable of solving problems like what an expert is capable of doing. The main purpose of developing the expert system is to substitute all kinds of humans’ knowledge to the technology that it can be useful to the public to solve some specific problems. The application of the expert system made with programming language based on PHP web and MySQL as the database. The method used is Forward Chaining. Expert system can mainly be used to diagnose diseases such as tuberculosis using Bayes method that can diagnose and identify the tuberculosis according to its symptoms.

Abstract

The lemongrass plants (Cymbopogon nardus) is one of the plants used as medicine such as strep throat, cough and colds. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the juice of fragrant lemongrass leaves has antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans bacteria that cause dental caries. The research method used is experimental with agar diffusion. The experiment consisted of four treatments namely at concentrations of 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% with three repetitions. The results showed fragrant lemongrass leaves at concentrations of 10%, 20%, 30% and 40% had an average inhibition zone diameter of 14,2 mm, 15,1 mm, 16,2 mm dan 17,3 mm. Fragrant lemongrass leaves can inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans.Keywords : Cymbopogon nardus, Antibacterial, Streptococcus mutans.
