Abstract

In the film industry, especially in Hollywood, it has been known that Hero’s Journey and Hollywood Classic 3 Act Structure are two inseparable things. Even though other journeys have been developed, such as Heroine’s Journey and Neurotic’s Journey (Anti-Hero), they can’t seem to replace the popularity of Hero’s Journey and often are categorized as alternative structure. This article will explain the connection between Hero’s Journey and 3 Act Structure.

Abstract

Representation is redepicting something, but the same meaning is not repeated in the articulated text. Psychoanalysis can be used to observe film text. The archetype of persona, as a critical concept in psychoanalysis, can build good impression or bad impression, depending on the social construct represented in the film text. Moreover, it can help individuals to perceive other individuals using signs and codes. The meanings behind these codes and signs can be deconstructed intertextually, so that it reveals more than one conditions that produce meanings in a concrete way with critical and theoretical framework. Through the observation on a character’s persona that is personified by an actor, new meanings can be produced by filling or replacing the meanings that are originally contained in the character.

Abstract

The film Life of Pi (2012) tells a story about Pi Patel ’s search of the values of life through his extraordinary adventure throughout the ocean alongside a wild tiger named Richard Parker. In the film, the relationship between Pi Patel and Richard Parker is unique because both parties influence one another. To comprehend the message about human’s search of self in the film, the character Pi Patel and his relationship with Richard Parker is analyzed. Analysis will be done using Sigmund Freud ’s psychoanalytic perspective, by referring to the concept of id, ego, and superego.

Abstract

Teknologi memiliki hubungan penting dalam seluruh aspek tatanan kehidupan. Penemuan teknologi baru pasti akan mempengaruhi cara masyarakat dalam menjalani hidup ke dalam bentuk kegiatan yang tak pernah terbayangkan sebelumnya. Hal yang sama juga terjadi di dalam bidang kesenian. Seni sangat bersinggungan erat dengan teknologi. Dapat dikatakan bahwa perkembangan teknologi juga rupanya menjadi faktor penting dalam dinamika perkembangan kesenian, baik itu dalam bentuk ekspresi, organisasi, bahkan juga membuka ruang bagi eksplorasi lintas kesenian.

Abstract

This paper aims to explain the position of ideas and research in the filmmaking, especially documentary. Background of this writing because there are still many errors of thoughts about research when associated with the idea in filmmaking. Qualitative research method is the method chosen to discuss this problem. Data is collected through observation, interviews, and literature study. Qualitative data analysis technique is used to discuss the problem. The result of the analysis indicates that there are errors of thought about research related to the idea of filmmaking, especially documentary.
