Abstract

Sistem pendidikan dewasa ini sering menjadi sorotan dan menuai kritik publik yang tidak ada habisnya karena transformasi nilai-nilai pendidikan cenderung dianggap tidak berhasil pada ranah kontekstual yang diharapkan mampu menjelma dalam realita sosial masyarakat. Pada kenyataannya, kalangan pendidik khsusnya para guru dan orang tua menghadapi berbagai masalah dan tantangan yang berat dalam menjalankan perannya sebagai agen sosial pendidikan di tengah masyarakat. Salah satu problematika sosial yang faktual terjadi di dunia pendidikan adalah penyimpangan sosial di kalangan peserta didik atau dalam terma yang kasuistik sering disebut sebagai kenakalan anak (juvenile delinquency). Banyak fakta yang menunjukkan perilaku peserta didik yang tidak memiliki ketahanan moral berkecenderungan mengadopsi perilaku menyimpang dan tindakan amoral yang bersumber dari lingkungan sosialnya. Misalnya tindakan asusila atau pemerkosaan yang dilakukan seorang siswa terhadap siswi karena pengaruh tayangan video atau film porno, tindakan kekerasan seperti tawuran dan perkelahian antarpelajar, hingga aksi pembunuhan oleh siswa terhadap teman sepergaulannya. Selain dipengaruhi oleh faktor psikologis dan lingkungan sosial, perilaku menyimpang peserta didik juga ditengarai terjadi karena hegemoni efek media massa yang senantiasa menanamkan simbol-simbol kekerasan dalam konstruksi siarannya.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan tindak tutur ilokusi yang terdapat pada percakapan sinetron “Tukang Ojek Pengkolan” dan mengidentifikasi fungsi tuturan ilokusi yang terdapat dalam percakapan sinetron “Tukang Ojek Pengkolan”. Jenis penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif berdasarkan pendekatan prgmatik. Penelitian yang berjenis kualitatif ini memaparkan jenis tindak tutur ilokusi dan konteks tuturan dalam sinetron Tukang Ojek Pengkolan yang ditayangkan di stasiun televisi RCTI. Berdasarkan analisis, ditemukan adanya tindak tutur ilokusi yang terdiri dari empat jenis tindak tutur, yaitu tindak tutur representatif yang digunakan dalam konteks menyatakan, melaporkan, dan mengeluh. Tindak tutur ilokusi direktif digunakan dalam konteks menasihati memesan, dan memohon. Tindak tutur ilokusi komisif digunakan dalam konteks menawarkan. Tindak tutur ilokusi ekspresif digunakan dalam konteks mengucapkan terima kasih dan meminta maaf.

Abstract

Gender roles are an important part of culture. How the genders are portrayed in the literature contributes to the image young adults develops of their gender roles and the role of gender in the social order. This research entitled  “Cinderella VS Timun Mas : Exploring gender stereotypes and culture as learning materials purposes” aimed to analyze the content of both “Cinderella” and “Timun Mas” which cover: 1. Occupations and Gender Stereotypes; 2 Centrality of Female and Male Characters; 3. Culture Content ; and 4 Suitability as learning material purposes. This research is a qualitative study using content analysis. It was carried out with procedures: collecting, analyzing, and presenting data. Based on research questions it is revealed that for occupation and gender types showed that “Timun mas” has varieties of gender with 66,67% reference whereas “Cinderella” only has 50% references. For the centrality of male and female character, “Cinderella’ has more varieties in 37,5% male and 62,5% female whereas in “Timun Mas” showed 50% for both genders”. For the cultural content, in “Timun Mas” the cultural content found was 60% and in “Cinderella” was 80%. And the suitability to be used as learning materials showed that “Timun Mas” checked with 16 points whereas “Cinderella” checked with 20 points. It can be concluded that both can be used as authentic learning materials for gender references, but “Cinderella” has more varieties and cultural content compared to “Timun Mas”.

Abstract

Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mencari solusi serta mengetahui alasan-alasan kertidakhadiran guru kedalam kelas, upaya yang dilakukan madrasah untuk meminimalisir ketidakhadiran guru. Terdapat beberapa dampak yang dirasakan oleh siswa ketika guru tidak hadir ke dalam kelas, siswa dirugikan dan kecewa, hal ini dapat menurunkan minta dan motivasi belajar mereka. Selain itu hal ini berpengaruh terhadap kedisiplinan siswa. Metode yang diagunakan dalam jurnal kali ini adalah kajian teoritis yang diambil dari pendapat para pakar pendidikan. Dari pendapat tersebut lalu dianalisis secara mendalam. Ketidak hadiran juga karena malas untuk mengajar, ini juga bisa menjadi benih inkonsistensi bagi guru yang biasanya rajin. Disini kami mencoba mencari solusi dari permasalahan tersebut (problem solving), bahwa madrasah harus berani bertindak supaya mdarsah betul-betul efektiif. misalnya memberikan reward bagi guru yang aktif and punisment bagi guru yang jarang hadir ke madrasah, karena dari beberapa masalah yang ada di lembaga lain adanya pengaruh positif terhadapa kehadiran guru ketika ada penerapan Reward dan Punishment terhadap kedisiplinan guru yang hadir didalam kelas pada kegiatan belajar mengajar.

Abstract

In Nigeria, Special Needs Education programme is a very special programme designed for persons with disabilities and persons with Special Needs. The Special Needs Education programme is being implemented in all the 36 states and in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The administration of the Special Needs Education programme faces many problems across the country. This article discusses the problems facing the administration of special needs education programme in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Secondary data was used to support the points raised in the article. This study sourced secondary data from print material and online publication by recognized institutions and individual author. Special needs programme in Federal Capital Territory (FCT) faced with the problems of; inadequate funding, inadequate infrastructural facilities, inadequate professional teachers, poor supervision, inadequate instructional materials, poor planning, institutional corruption, lack of data to plan and poor implementation of Special needs education policies. To solve these challenges, this article recommends: that the government should increase the funding of Special need education, provide adequate infrastructural facilities, employment of more professional teachers, provision of adequate instructional materials, ensure effective supervision and planning of the special need programme.

Abstract

This paper discussed the challenges preventing the implementation of University education policies in Nigeria. Secondary data were used in the papers. The secondary data were sourced from print materials and online journal and articles. The paper identified inadequate funding, inadequate infrastructural facilities, inadequate professional lectures, institutional corruption, lack of political will, insecurity challenge, political instability, poor policy formulation, strike actions, weak regulatory agencies and political influence as the challenges preventing effective implementation of Universities education policies in Nigeria. To address these challenges, the paper recommends the following; adequate funding of education, provision of adequate infrastructural facilities, fight institutional corruption, ensure adequate security in educational institutions, political officeholders should have positive political will towards implementation of higher education policies, employment of more professional teachers, implement agreed with different union groups, and political officeholders and school administrators should have political will to continue with educational policies on groups.

Abstract

Public universities in Nigeria were established to provide post-secondary education for the Nigerian citizens. The Nigerian public universities were among the best in the world before but the situation has changed. The performance of Nigerian public universities is not encouraging. Many problems have been identified as responsible. Problems of poor administration of public universities have been identified by different scholars as a problem facing the public universities in Nigeria. This article discusses the problems facing the administration of public universities in Nigeria. Secondary data were used in the article. The secondary data were sourced from online and print resources. The article identified; inadequate funding, inadequate academic staff, inadequate infrastructural facilities, brain-drain, insecurity, strike actions, corruption, inadequate data to plan, political influence and weak administrators as the problems facing the administration of public universities in Nigeria. To solve the problems, the following were recommended: increase in the funding of public universities, employment of more academic staff, provision of adequate infrastructural facilities, ensure adequate security, fight all forms of corruption, provision of adequate data, grant autonomy to all public universities, motivate all the academic staff, improve on data generation and distribution, implement all agreement reached with union groups in the public universities and appointment of competent administrators for the public universities in Nigeria.

Abstract

University education in Nigeria is the education that prepares the youths for future. University education is the key to the realization of the social, economic and technological advancement of a country. The Nigerian university education faces many problems. The researchers employed the used of secondary data to discuss the points raised in the article. This article identified poor planning, weak administration, inadequate funding, inadequate academic staff, inadequate infrastructural facilities, poor supervision, brain-drain, strike actions, corruption and poor research programme as the problems facing the university education in Nigeria. To address these challenges, the article recommendations include government should effective planning of universities education, appoint capable administrators, increase the funding of university education, provision of adequate infrastructural facilities, motivate the academic staff, implement agreement, fight the corruption in the university system and increase the funding of research programme.

Abstract

The university education is designed to provide post-secondary school education for all eligible Nigerians. The Students in the Nigerian public universities are faced with many problems. The article discusses problems Nigerian public universities students faced as they are carrying out their academic activities across the country. The article used secondary data which was sourced from print material and online publications. The article identified inadequate infrastructural facilities, shortage of lecturers, unstable academic calendar, academic corruption, insecurity, financial problems and poor participation in universities management. To solve these challenges, this article recommends: that the government should increase the funding of students service programmes, provide adequate infrastructural facilities, employ more academic staff, provide adequate security in the schools, ensure stable academic calendar, institutionalize law against sexual harassment, provide proper orientation programmes to discourage students on cult related activities, ensure effective supervision of teaching and learning as well as provision of scholarship grants to students.

Abstract

Planning of Higher institutions in Nigeria and in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nigeria has always been confronted with many challenges. This purpose of this study was to investigate the challenges facing planning of higher institutions in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nigeria. A descriptive research method was adopted for the study. The total numbers of hundred (100) respondents were selected from various agencies and ministry of education using stratified and systematic sampling technique with the use questionnaires to collect information from respondents who participated in the study. The data collected were carefully analyzed using percentages supported by chi-square to represent the raw data in a meaningful manner. The questionnaire was validated by two lecturers from University of Abuja department of educational administration. Two research questions and one hypothesis were developed for the study. Test-retest reliability was employed for the study. Result collected and analyzed revealed that there is significant relationship between planning of higher institutions and challenges. This result also showed that political influence, political instability, inadequate data, inadequate fund to plan, pressure group, inadequate planning and poor capacity of planner are the challenges facing the planning of higher institutions. The paper recommends that the government should increase the budgetary allocation for educational planning in the country.
