Abstract

The article aimed to analyze the implementation and development of Qur’an learning methods in two cognate countries namely Malaysia and Indonesia. The methodology used was content analysis, one of the research approaches in qualitative research. Data came from author’s reading of various theories, expert opinions and research results of previous researchers associated with education and learning of Qur’an. All data then collected, reduced, presented and closed with conclusions. At the beginning of the authors begin with the introduction, further discuss the urgency of learning and teaching of  Qur’an, the method of learning Qur’an in the first period of Qur’an is revealed, the obligation to read Qur’an well and correctly, the description of methods and analysis of the implementation of learning Qur’an in Malaysia and Indonesia, factors that influence the success of learning Qur’an and conclude with conclusions. The results of the discussion of this article can at least be an additional reference material for Qur’an observers  teachers Qur’an in particular, parents, community and the next researchers related to the study of Qur’an in Islamic education.

Abstract

This article is aimed at discussing the concept of moral and character of professional doctor pursuant to Islamic perspective. Method used for the study is content analysis, an approach in qualitative research. Data was obtained through reading of various theories and postulates proposed by experts and previous researches regarding to profession of doctors in Islamic perspectives. The data was collected, reduced, presented, and ended with a conclusion of thematic analysis approach. It is found that there are nine characters of an ideal doctor pursuant to Islamic perspective, namely, i) possessing good Aqeedah and embracing true faith, ii) being sincere and diligent in performing work, iii) skillful in his profession and specialization, iv) being honest in attitude and work, v) sensitive and caring, vi) raising optimism for patients, vii) stylish and respectful, viii) possessing good moral and noble characters, ix) and being respectful, helpful  and humble. The article is expected to be references for Muslim doctors and medical practitioners as well as to be an idea of other researchers to develop the study regarding to the identical issues yet in different context.

Abstract

his study is aimed at describing the implementation of Tartil method as an alternative to eliminate Al-Qur’an illiteracy among elementary school students. The study was conducted through two phases of explanatory mixed methods designs. Quantitative method was applied in the first phase (true experiment; pretest-post test one group design) involving 78 pupils of two schools who were Qur’an illiterate. Qualitative method was applied in the last phase (multi casemulti site case study design) involving 13 pupils and 2 teachers who implemented the method in their classroom. Data of the first phase was collected through oral test analyzed through descriptive statistics of SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) Windows 18.0. Further, the second phase data was collected through in depth interview thematically analyzed by Nvivo 8. The findings of the study indicate the improvement of students’ ability in reading Qur’an after Tartil method was implemented (57.57% Good & 42.43 % Moderate). Data of the second phase implies that the success of the method is pursuant to four prominent factors, namely; (i) the method is truly enjoyable, understandable, simple and practical, (ii) the materials are systematically and precisely presented, (iii) the materials are easy to remember as they are colorful, (iv) it is possible to teach the students how to read Qur’an in murotal way through this method.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to analyze the behavior and causal factors of plagiarism among the undergraduate students in accomplishing their coursework in Islamic religion subject. The study used methods combination of qualitative and quantitative research or Exploratory mixed methods designs. Qualitative data were taken from 15 papers of group works in the subjects of Islamic religion, while quantitative data were taken using questionnaires towards 80 students who are taking course in Islamic religion at State University of Padang (UNP). Data taken from papers of groupwork were analyzed thematically with method of data collection, data reduction, data presentation and taking conclusion, while questionnaires were analyzed descriptively using SPSS software version 18.0 for Windows.Results of the document analysis found that there are three forms of behavior of student plagiarism in accomplishing the coursework, first:  by quoting the entire writings of the other person without mentioning the source, second: by quoting part / half of the text/writings of others, third: by quoting the writing of others then converted into their own statements. While there are eight factors that cause plagiarism which are: not understand about plagiarism, the student’s instant culture in accomplishing academic tasks, the high volume of academic tasks given by lecturers, students’ low interest in reading, not enough time to find the answer in the book, the ease of Information Technology, low purchasing power and lack of knowledge in how to write a scientific papers.

Abstract

The goal of national education is to develop the students’ potential to become virtuous, courteous, healthy, knowledgeable, skillful, creative, independent, democratic and responsible human beings, and be devoted to Allah S.W.T. In its implementation, Islamic Study subject has an important and strategic role in realizing the goals of national education. Generally, the teaching and learning process of this subject in university level is much better compared to the previous one, in either lecturer’s competence, curriculum or management system. Nevertheless, the fact also shows that most students take this subject only to complete the requirement of their study, not as a scientific need. This course has been designed to build the students’ charcaters and personality so that they could become knowledgeable and devoted to Allah SWT. Therefore, strategic steps based on more open and advanced paradigm and thought are needed. This article is intended to discuss strategic steps required in managing and conducting the teaching and learning process of Islamic Study in universities to achieve the specified goals maximally. The discussion is supported by related literature, expert opinions, and results of previous research relevant to the current study in term of context and issue

Abstract

The objective of this study is to explore the role of Abdullah Ahmad on the development of Islamic education in Minangkabau. The research used qualitative method with individual life history approach. All data was collected through a biography of the character, literatures, documents and evidence of object legacy in terms of both written and physical data. Data collection was conducted through the process of collecting, reducting, and presenting the data and was followed by a conclusion. Overall, the result of the study shows that there are six methods applied by Abdullah Ahmad in developing the Islamic education in Minangkabau. The six methods are: i) religion-based education, ii) integration of classical and modern educational models, iii) educational consortium, iv) development of a scientific culture, v) receptiveness to modernization, and vi) informal education. This study also proves that the Abdullah Ahmad’s six methods of education are the prototype of the establishment of today’s various modern educational institutions in West Sumatra. It is no wonder that Minangkabau was formerly known as the land for producing Islamic scholars, intellectuals and powerful politicians such as M. Yamin, Buya Hamka, M. Nasir, and Muhammad Hatta. Based on the historical facts, this study found that Minangkabau scholars, intellectuals and politicians are influenced more or less by the thoughts of Abdullah Ahmad.
