The journal publishes research papers in the all the fields of language, language teaching, and linguistics such as, Phonetics and Phonology, Morphology, Lexicology, Syntax and Language Typology, Semantic, Pragmatics, Discourse Analysis, Grammar Analysis, Historical Linguistics, Dialectology and Language Evolution, Applied Linguistics, Biolinguistics, Clinical Linguistics, Neurolinguistics, Computational Linguistics, Psycholinguistics, Sociolinguistics, Forensic Linguistics, Language Teaching, Language Development, Translation, and other related studies of language. Since 2017, all papers submitted to the journal should be written in good English. Authors for whom English is not their native language are encouraged to have their paper checked before submission for grammar and clarity. English language and copyediting services can be provided by English Faculty . The work should not have been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. The official language of the manuscript to be published in journal Lingua is English. Lingua Journal is published two times a year by English Education Study Program Faculty of Teaching and Educational Sciences As-Syafi’iyah Islamic University of Jakarta. The journal welcomes articles on English language teaching and research. Articles should be in English, typed double-spaced on quarto-size paper. Abstract

The utilize of YouTube for teaching and learning English in this era is needed toimplement. This research aims to investigated YouTube Channel: Pronunciation withEmma able to enhance students’ pronunciation at SMK Bina Mandiri Bekasi. The designof this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) and uses a quantitative descriptivemethod. Participants in this research were 36 students from XI TKJ F at SMK Bina MandiriBekasi. The result showed that teaching and learning English using YouTube Channel:Pronunciation with Emma as media able to enhance students’ pronunciation.There were significant enhancements both researcher and the student overall performancewithin the classroom. Researcher can make the class more active, and students have gottop notch motivation to learn good pronunciation. Based on data, there is a significantenhance in students’ mean score. In the pre-test, students’ mean score is 71 there were10 students who reached the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) with the percentage27% and 26 students with the percentage 73% failed. Then, in post-test 1 score is 82 therewere 24 students who reached the KKM with the percentage 66% and 12 students with thepercentage 34% failed. In post-test 2 score is 86 there were 34 students who reached theKKM with the percentage 94% and 2 students with the percentage 6% failed. Based onthe result of the mean score cycle 1 and cycle 2, there is enhancement of student’spronunciation that are 82 to 86. It can be concluded that the use of YouTube Channel:Pronunciation with Emma is believed to be successful and able to enhance students’pronunciation.

Abstract

Abstract: This research was conducted to investigate the students’ efforts in speaking skills and the aspects of speaking skill that mostly developed by the students at the seond grade of SMAN 1 Mowewe. This research used a descriptive qualitative method by using case study English design. In conducting this research, the researcher took class XI MIA 1 of SMAN 1 Mowewe as a subject of the research with considerable that the class have the highest effort to improve speaking skill. The researcher used two kinds of instrument, namely questionnaire and interview. The researcher analyzed the data of the questionnaire by calculating and analyzing the students’ answer. For the interview the researcher used transcribing the tape recording, coding (labeling) the whole transcribed text, seeking for and naming the themes, reviewing the themes to make sure they fit the data, and the write-up (creating a coherent narrative). The result of this research showed that the students had six activities of students’ efforts in speaking skill. There were 1) students used the new vocabulary in speaking for easily remember the vocabulary, 2) students used mirror in speaking English fluently, 3) students checked the correct pronunciation on an online dictionary, 4) students asked a friend for helping them if they forgot the vocabulary, 5) students looked for the native speakers in improving their pronunciation, and 6) students made a small note to write the new vocabulary. In additional the interview data showed that there were some aspects of the speaking skill, namely vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, pronunciation, and grammar. Then the researcher got information from the interview about the aspect of speaking skill that mostly developed by the students is vocabulary. There were 4 students from 5 students chose vocabulary as an aspect that mostly developed by the students

Abstract

This study aims to provide a discourse on the importance of increasing reading interest in forming a critical and tolerant multicultural society reading culture. These research studies are literature from various sources that discuss reading interest, reading culture, and its relationship with a multicultural society. The study results that have been carried out show that reading activities can broaden the horizons and horizons of human thinking so that they are not left behind by the rapid development of the times. Everyone must be encouraged to have high interest, activity, and reading habits. Low interest, hobbies, activities, and reading habits can be factors for the decline in the level of progress of a nation. Intolerance, feeling the most correct, the best, and not wanting to respect the opinions, behaviors, and cultures can arise because of low insight, intelligence, and thinking horizons. Therefore, to create a multicultural society that is critical, tolerant, open, and pluralistic, it is necessary to have high reading activities, habits, and culture. This needs to be realized because a high reading tradition can support the acceleration of people's intelligence in responding to various life problems in a nation

Abstract

This second-year study which took place in 2022 aims to investigate, determine and design a learning management system (LMS) design through Moodle and Content Management System (CMS) through Google Sites for Critical Literacy course in Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris UNJ. Critical Literacy course aims to prepare the students to have the ability to interpret text critically and communicate actively in the multimodal context in a hybrid learning process. The study was conducted with the qualitative approach with The Successive Approximation Model (SAM) iterative phase research design. Throughout the Savvy Start and Iterative Design Phase, the phase rotated through design, prototype, and review to make sure students and lecturers can contribute and support the design direction. Forty-four students and one lecturer generates as participants in this study. Two kinds of modules were developed during the study, namely: (1) LMS on www.onlinelearning.unj.ac.id and (2) CMS on Google Sites. LMS and CMS modules for the Critical Literacy course were: (1) Defining Critical Literacy, (2) Literacy, Critical Literacy, Multi-literacy, Multimodal, (3) Data Literacy, Fact, and Hoax (4) Analyzing Multimodal Text (5) Reflective Notes (6) Mid-term Test (7) Analyzing Various Texts (8) Wrap Up (9) Final Semester Individual Project. These nine headings were categorized into four topics namely: Theories, Tests, Reflection, and Projects. The theories can be used to deliver learning materials and examples in the form of text, video, slides, QR codes, and websites. Meanwhile, the test could be used to provide assignments, exercises, and learning evaluations. Reflection was used to provide the students with opportunities to do both self- and peer-reflection on the learning processes. Finally, the projects were used to involve the students with problem-solving skills and self-regulated learning. The study’s findings showed that LMS and CMS could handle the complexity of teaching Critical Literacy in the digital environment. The Critical Literacy course should have attracted interest or participation from the students to familiarize, encourage, fulfill, assess, and comprehend the various texts. This LMS and CMS also provided students with class discussion, credible references, project-based activities, and criticism on literacy topics.

Abstract

In recent years, technology has become increasingly integrated into educational settings. As technology continues to evolve, educators will need to stay abreast of new developments and find innovative ways to integrate technology into the learning experience. One example of technological integration into learning activities is the utilization of online games. This study aimed to give an overview of the most commonly used online educational games and their impact on enhancing classroom engagement. This research was descriptive-qualitative, applying both theoretical and empirical approaches. A literature review was conducted to study and interpret the available research papers on the topic. To be more comprehensive, questionnaires were distributed to find out the overview of online games commonly used in the classroom and the students' engagement with this teaching method. The results of this study confirmed that there is a positive correlation between the use of online games and classroom engagement. This study recommends online games be applied in order to enrich the practice of English language teaching (ELT). Further study on the characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses of these games is still required to help educators choose the best game that meets the learning objectives and students' needs.

Abstract

This research is entitled The Use of Floandday TikTok Channel in Pronunciation. Based on the problem that often occurs in students is the influence of the mother tongue which is still used in English. So, the pronunciation in English is still not good and correct. As a result, there are often misunderstandings in speaking. With advances in technology at this time there is a social media that is very popular with students or teenagers, namely TikTok. TikTok is not only for watching dance videos but also for educational media. One of the English education accounts on TikTok is Floandday. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the purpose of this study is to provide more information about the use of TikTok Floandday accounts in learning pronunciation for students. This research was conducted for 6 months with observation and interview instruments on 10 students aged 15-17 years on followers on the Floandday TikTok account. The results of this study are positive responses from students on Floandday accounts who can easily learn English according to phonetics without feeling bored or being judged wrongly in the English learning process.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to determine whether there is an influence of learning styles on the acquisition of English vocabulary. This study investigates whether there is an effect of visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning style on English vocabulary. This type of research is correlation research. The population of this study were second grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Padangsidimpuan. The number of samples in this study were 50 students who were randomly selected. To collect data, the researcher used a questionnaire and a vocabulary test. Questionnaires are given with the aim of knowing student learning styles. The researcher made observations in class when there was an English subject. The data obtained was tested by t-test to find out whether the learning style is significant to the acquisition of English vocabulary. The data shows that there are 14 (28%) students who are visual learners, 13 (26%) students with an auditory style and 23 (46%) as kinesthetic students. From the results of the hypothesis test it was found that the calculated value obtained was 0.694 and compared with the alpha table value of 0.05, the calculated value was greater than the table value. It states that there is a very strong influence between learning styles and English vocabulary. In other words, learning styles affect students' grades, especially English. Keywords: visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and vocabulary achievement.
