Abstract

Every short story by Seno Gumira Ajidarma in the anthology “Sepotong Senja untuk Pacarku” uses the same theme of twilight with its reddish light and seaside nuances, including the three short story collections to be discussed, the Alina Trilogy.  Many readers manifest their lover's shadow into the character of Alina in the short story "Sepotong Senja untuk Pacarku" which takes Sukab's point of view since Ajidarma released it in 1991 This research uses a subjective approach and descriptive subjective research method that is interpretive. The subject to be researched in this research is Seno Gumira Ajidarma's short story "Alina Trilogy" which is a series of three short stories completed by Seno Gumira Ajidarma over ten years. The first story is "Sepotong Senja Untuk Pacangu" which he completed in 1991, and 10 years later, in 2001, a connection was made to this short story with the title "Jawaban Alina" and "Tukang Pos dalam Amplop" in the same year. The research will use the constructivism paradigm and will be described with descriptive semiotics and/or a little hermeneutics. Abstract

Ambition is the energy expressed in active behaviour towards a goal or aspiration, carried out with persistence and a common struggle in the pursuit of success, achievement, and completion. The existence of different societal perspectives related to men's and women's ambitions raises negative stigmas that harm women. Therefore, film is present as an entertainment medium, and as a channel to convey messages to portray social reality, and to change the perspective. One of the films that depict women's ambitions is "Black Swan" (2010) with the background of the main character who wants to achieve success in the ballet industry in a performance called "Swan Lake".This film highlights the struggles and sacrifices of Nina Sayers in her effort to get the main dancer position, with the pressures and obstacles she faced to reach the pinnacle of success. This study aims to determine the portrayal of women's ambitions through the character of Nina Sayers in "Black Swan". This research uses a qualitative approach, with semiotic analysis methods according to Christian Metz, through scenes that are categorized as depicting striving ambitions, perfectionist ambitions, and aggressive ambitions of Nina Sayers in "Black Swan"."Black Swan" gives a complex picture of women trying to achieve success in the competitive ballet industry. The portrayal of strong women's ambition and perseverance to achieve success in this film provides a point of view rarely explored in the film's narrative. Nina Sayers’ perfectionist personality shown most strongly in the film, "Black Swan" exemplifies that ambition and hard work know no gender boundaries. The film shows that women can also strive for success in their careers and are ready to make sacrifices to achieve those goals, just as men are. Keywords: Christian Metz, film, film semiology, the large syntagmatic category, women’s ambition

Abstract

In the modern world, technology plays a vital role in shaping society. It has become an inseparable part of our lives, revolutionizing various aspects such as communication and entertainment. This article explores how digital media technology is transforming feminist writing and empowering women's voices. By utilizing platforms like websites, blogs, and eBooks, women can amplify their thoughts and bridge existing gaps within the literary world. The implementation of AI algorithms enables the analysis of vast literary works, bringing attention to previously overlooked patterns and biases. This contributes to a more inclusive and diverse literary landscape. The article applies the Neoliberal Feminism concept by Catherine Rottenberg, emphasizing individuals as active participants who can stimulate the economy by regulating government operations. The free and self-regulating market facilitated by digital media empowers women to change their marginal situations. In summary, this article promotes digital media as a potential technology for leveling the playing field for female writers. It enables women's voices to be heard and acknowledged and opens avenues for valuable feedback, guidance, and exposure. This empowerment paves the way for greater representation of women in literature. Keywords: digital media, feminist writing, neoliberal feminism

Abstract

This thesis goes into detail about anxiety in Adam Silvera's interesting book They Both Die at the End. Using qualitative research methods, this study looks at how anxiety is a key theme in the lives of the novel's characters and how it is woven into a complex web. The story takes place in a world where everyone knows they only have 24 hours left to live. This puts a cloud of anxiety over everything they think and do. Qualitative study methods are used to give a full picture of how anxiety is woven into the characters' lives in a complex way. The study focuses on anxiety, which is a common and complex feeling, to shed light on the character's mental and emotional turmoil. By looking at their struggles, this study hopes to show how similar they are to other people and get people to understand their deep emotional complexities. This study shows how important it is to use books to talk about anxiety, which is a common problem in modern society. By using They Both Die at the End as a way to look at anxiety, this study not only helps us understand the book better but also looks at what this feeling means in the bigger picture.
