Abstract

Indonesia as a megabiodiversity country have to explore biodiversity from the ecosystem level to genetic variations to avoid loss of them. Parijoto is ones of Indonesian plant used for ornamental plants and medicine. Parijoto included in genus of Medinilla. Ten species has been identified scattered on the mountains of Java. There are two cultivated species (Medinilla javanensis and M. verrucosa) in Muria mountainous, Central Java.Both of them have similar morphological character, therefore they often make confuses. On the other side, the genetic information of them is needed. Hence, on the level of gene is necessary to identify M. javanensis and M. verrucosa by molecular markers. The purposes of identification using molecular markers are to distinguish both of two spesies and get their genetic information. Identification on a level genes carried by variation sequence of DNA (polymorphism) between M. javanensis and M. verrucosa. Method of Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (RFLP) and Random Amplified Polymorphism DNA (RAPD) are usefull to identify genetic variation between organisms. The use of them should show polymorphism after observed using electrophoresis method. The appearance of polymorphism shows variations on the genetic level to strength the identification through morphological character. Result of the research will be applied as a learning material of high school students to explain genetic diversity. Students expected to understand genetic variations not only as an image on book, but in contextual way. Keywords: medinilla, RFLP, RAPD, learning material

Abstract

The purpose statement of the study is to find out  how significant is the effect of the teaching  and learning strategy toward students’ critical thinking of the biology department students of Genetics subject. The research design used in the study is quasi-experimental design. It is aimed at giving the real description of the effects of students’ critical thinking. The populations of the study are the two classes of (5th) fifth semester students of Biology Department of Muhammadiyah University of Jember. One class is treated as the experiment group which applied the combination of reading, questioning and answering strategy and think pair and share technique; and another one is of the controlled group. The results of the study show that: the average ability of the students in experiment group are higher than those of the controlled group in thinking critically. This shows the average scores fell in learning the TPS strategy combined RQA 8.7% higher compared to learning the TPS strategy. It can be concluded that the combined RQA TPS strategy can improve critical thinking skills of students in the 2012-2013 academic year genetics course. Keywords : RQA strategy, TPS,  students’ critical thinking

Abstract

Abstract - The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of mercury stress on the physiological response of water spinach. This study use a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments Hg concentrations of heavy metals, namely 0, 1, 3, 5, and 7 ppm with 4 replicates for each treatment and were harvested after 15 and 30 days after planting. Observation parameters such as root length, stolon length, number of leaves, biomass, chlorophyll content, and mercury levels after 15 and 30 days. Data were analyzed using F test and DMRT test with a significance level of 5% with SPSS 15. The results showed that more hight concentrations of Hg is caused decreation of: root length, stolon length, number of leaves, biomass, chlorophyll content both on treatment 15 days or 30 days Hg stress. Highest levels of Hg found in the roots of both in treatment 15 days or 30 days compared between the stem and the leaves are at the root. It caused in root there is endodermis which serves as a filter heavy metals. Abstract

The research aims to analyse the ESD Project in Japanese School, particularly its practices in ASP-net Schools in Aichi Prefecture Japan, one of the modernized area in central Japan. Research had been conducted from June to July 2013. Data had been collecting through interview to the staff of the Teacher Training Centre (TTC) of Aichi, Biology Teachers of Zuiryo High School, and ESD Project Leader of Toyota Higashi High School. Document and literature analysis was conducted to obtain the information on country policies. The findings are, Japanese schools had already practiced an ESD-like program called Shogoutekina gakushuujikan or Integrated Study Course (ISC), three years prior the UN-based ESD Program had been adopted by the government. ISC was introduced to Japanese schools curriculum since 2000, and had been widely implemented in all level of education. The practices of ESD varied among the schools, but it is always related to the local environment, society issues, and international understanding.  This paper will explain ESD practices at Toyota Higashi High School. The Toyota Higashi High Schools had been adopted UNESCO ASP-net School in 2012, in which the ESD practices have to be based on UNESCO-based ESD Project. The ESD program has been integrated to the recent curriculum, which are mostly implemented in shogotekina gakushuu jikan.  Students from grade 1 to grade 3 learn about locality, environment education, and international understanding. Materials for ESD program was developed by teachers and it fixed the UNESCO system.  They also cooperate with Teacher Training Center of Aichi to formulate the local based-ESD substances. Keywords : ESD Project, Integrated Study Course, Shogotekina Gakushuu Jikan, environmental education

Abstract

One method in improving secondary metabolites in plant tissue culture is through elicitation, by adding elicitor to plant cells which is intended to induce and enhance secondary metabolites production. In this research, Trichoderma sp and Penicillium sp grown on amylum and Carboxy Methyl Cellulose (CMC) medium were used as elicitor. The results of this research showed that the best growth of the two fungi was produced on amylum medium, with incubation time six days and one day, wet weight 105,8 g/L and 87,4 g/L respectively. Keywords: elicitor, secondary metabolites

Abstract

Implementation of guided inquiry learning in SMA BSS Malang to make the teaching and learning process focus on the students themselves, so that student can gain the concept from their own experience and apply it in everyday life to make them hopefully improve their the capability of critical thinking and achievements. This project is a classroom action research carried out in two cycles – each cycle consists of five meetings. The results of the observation on critical thinking ability were in the form of scores based on critical thinking rubrics. The results rated based on the cognitive learning were in the form of test results, while the affective test results were gained by observing students’ attitude, and the psychomotor test results were scored based on the students’ practical work in the laboratory. The results of the study demonstrated that based on each indicator, the students’ capability of critical thinking increased from the first to the second cycle. The results assessed based on the cognitive indicator, affective indicator and psychomotor indicator also increase.  Keywords: inquiry learning, critical thinking, achievements of students

Abstract

Abstrak-Kabupaten Merauke merupakan salah satu diantara 29 kota atau kabupaten di Provinsi Papua yang juga kabupaten yang terletak paling timur wilayah nusantara. Kondisi geografis dan lingkungan yang mendukung di Kabupaten Merauke, mengakibatkan wilayah ini memiliki kekayaan berbagai jenis flora salah satunya anggrek. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginventarisasi spesies anggrek yang terdapat di Kabupaten Merauke dan menganalisis tingkat keanekaragamannya. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif eksploratif dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Penelitian dilaksanakan di 11 distrik di Kabupaten Merauke dengan 30 petak pengamatan pada masing-masing distrik. Prosedur pengumpulan data terdiri dari beberapa tahapan yaitu survei pendahuluan dan pengamatan. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menghitung indeks keanekaragamandan kemerataan anggrek yang ditemukan di Kabupaten Merauke. Hasil survei komunitas anggrek ditemukan 41 spesies anggrek yang terdiri dari 4 spesies anggrek terrestrial dan 37 spesies anggrek epifit dengan jumlah total individu sebanyak 46508 individu. Indeks keanekaragaman menunjukkan angka 2,65 (2≤ H’ ≤ 3) sehingga keanekaragaman anggrek masuk dalam kategori sedang. Indeks kemerataan sebesar 0,71 (mendekati 1) yang artinya spesies anggrek terdistribusi secara merata. Kata Kunci: anggrek, analisis vegetasi, Merauke

Abstract

Science is one of the subjects of National Standard School Final Examination (UASBN) in SD/MI, hence the learning achievement of the subject determines the students’ graduation. UASBN topics are taken from fourth until sixth grade materials so that science learning achievement of fourth grader needs more attention. But the fact is, based on the data of fourth grader in SDN ‘X’ Yogyakarta, the average value for science is sequence to 9 of 11 subjects. Besides, the science average value is still lower than the minimum criteria for completeness (KKM) of science. For years, the method developing in school is the conventional method (Kumara, 2004; Brahim, 2007; Depdiknas, 2008), whereas science is a subject which needs skill of understanding, analyzing, and relating a phenomenon with other phenomenon (Depdiknas, 2007). The purpose of this research is to examine the capability of Menggambar-Menceritakan Gambar method to improve the fourth grader’s science learning achievement. This research used a quasi experimental method with an “untreated control group design with pretest and posttest“. Science test was given for pretest and posttest. The intervention was applied for 10 sessions (3 sessions a week), which was held in 75 minutes. There were 32 partisipants, divided into two groups, experimental group (n=22) and control group (n=10). The data was analyzed by T-test. The gain-score was used for the analysis. The result of independent sample t-test analysis showed the differences in science learning achievement between experimental and control group (t=3,878; p<0,01), while the results of paired sample t-test analysis showed a difference between pretest and posttest scores of the experimental group (t=-9.298, p<0.01). These results indicate that Menggambar-Menceritakan Gambar method could improve fourth grader’s science learning achievement. Keywords: Menggambar-Menceritakan Gambar method, science learning achievement, fourth grader

Abstract

Abstract-The biosurfactant activity are surface active compound produced by microorganism, these molecules reduce surface tension between aqueous solutions that diverse of polarity. Endophytic bacteria MFS3, isolated from sludge oil resources presented positive biosurfactant test. The aim of this study is to screen of biosurfactant activity from MFS3 endophytic bacteria, by using Parafilm hydrophobic M test and surface tension determination by using Du-Nouy-ring Tensiometer method. Abstract

This study is an experimental study that aims to identify differences in learning outcomes through cooperative learning model of TPS ( Think Pair Share ) and use the model of Jigsaw the subject 's body structure plant eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Kartasura . Classes used in this study were three classes, randomly selected. Class used different study treated with the same material. Data collection techniquesin this study using the methods of documentation, observation, and post test. Analyze data using a statistical test of test validity,reliability,degree of difficulty, different power matter, normality, homogenity, and to test hypotheses using Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U Test, assisted by SPSS 15.0 for Windows. Average cognitive learning outcomes VIIIG class with TPS models of 80.5 is lower than the class of models that use Jigsaw by 81 and conventional by 72. Results of the Kruskal-Wallis test hypotheses using model learning Jigsaw-TPS and obtained 0,000 < 0,05, then H0 is rejected so there is a difference between learning outcomes learning TPS, Jigsaw and control.Further test results using the Mann-Whitney U Test results of TPS-Jigsaw obtained 0.760 > 0.05 so H0 is accepted; Control stations obtained 0.000 < 0.05 H0 is rejected; Jigsaw-control obtained 0.000 < 0.05 H0 is rejected. Based on the results of the analysis ofthese data can be obtained conclusion: there are differences in learning outcomes between TPS learning models, Jigsaw, and Conventional (lectures) on the subjects of biological material of plant body structure Junior High School eighth grade 2 Kartasura academic year 2013/2014. The most effective learning jigsaw model used in the learning process plant material body structure compared to the learning model TPS (Think Pair Share) and lectures (conventional) in the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Kartasura academic year 2013/2014. Keywords: TPS models, jigsaw models, results of learning
