Abstract

In the Swamp of Sawah Village has waters surrounded by trees and aquatic plants, which function to attach periphyton organisms. Because there are many wood submerged in swamp, the substrate used is a wood substrate (epidendritic). Periphytons  is a passive moving organisms, the type and density of periphyton is influenced by water quality. Periphytons is also a water quality bioindicator. This research aims to determine the type and density of epidendritic periphyton in the swamp of Sawah Village, has been conducted from May to June 2018. Epidendritic periphyton Sampling was carried out three times, once/ two week for two month. There were 72 types of periphyton presence, they were belonged to 7 classes of Phytoperiphyton, namely Bacillariophyceae (15 species), Chlorophyceae (31 species), Cyanophyceae (11 species), Chrysophyceae (2 species), Dinophyceae (1 species), Euglenophyceae (3 species), and 3 classes Zooperiphyton, namely Monogononta (8 species), Tubulinea (1 species). Phytoperiphyton abundance was 22,031 – 23,152 cells/cm2 and Zooperiphyton 133 – 336 organisms/cm2. The periphytons Diversity index (H') was 3.08 – 4.07; Domination Index (C) was 0.07 – 0.39; Uniformity Index (E) was 0.64 – 0.76. The water quality parameters are as follows, temperature was 27 - 29 °C, brightness was 42 - 65 cm, pH 5, CO2 was 13 - 15 mg/L, oxygen was 4.16 – 5.51 mg/L, nitrate was 0.14 – 0.21 mg/L, phosphate was 0.17 – 2.79 mg/L. Based on the epidendritic periphyton species and density, it can be concluded that the aquatic environment of swamp waters can be categorized as good.

Abstract

In recent years, many net cages for aquaculture activities, especially for culturing Wallago leeri and Mystus numerus are placed along the Kampar River, especially in the Buluhcina Village. The remain of fish feed, namely rotten chicken flesh have polluted the water. This study aimed to identify the cage culture profile; to analyze the feasibility of the business and the carrying capacity of the environment. This research was conducted in August 2016 – March 2017. There are three observation stations,  Station 1 (before the cage area), Station 2 (the cage area) and Station 3 (after the cage area). Sampling was conducted once. The length of the river is 1.4 Km and 594 single unit net cages are placed along 1,2 Km river. Among the cages, 570 units (96% )are used to the culture of W. leeri,  19 units (3.2%) for M. numerus and the rest, 3 units are for rearing Pangasius sp. and Oreochromis niloticus (1 unit). The carrying capacity of the waters is 496.1 tons/year. The current annual production of W. leeri is 228 tons/year, it is less than the maximum potency.  It is predicted that the culture can be increased by 258.5 ton/year or 646 cages. The recent RCR value is 1.120, indicates that this business is profitable and it could be continued.

Abstract

Kijing is a freshwater mussel which contains high nutritional value, but its use is only as a biofilter in the water, as well as durian seeds and jackfruit seeds which are just thrown away. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using different binders on organoleptic and folding test quality of freshwater mussel meatballs during cold temperature storage (± 5 °C). The experimental design used in this study was a Non Factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD), namely the addition of different binders (tapioca, durian seed, and jackfruit seed flour) in the manufacture of freshwater mussel meatballs, which consisted of five levels of treatment namely B0 (75g + 0g + 0g), B1 (55g + 10g + 10g), B2 (35g + 20g + 20g), B3 (15g + 30g + 30g), B4 (0g + 37.5g + 37.5g), respectively. The group or replication in this study was the length of storage consisting of 0 days (H0), 5 days (H5), 10 days (H10), 15 days (H15). The results showed that the use of different binding materials had a significant effect on organoleptic quality (appearance, aroma, taste, texture), and folding test of freshwater mussel meatballs during cold storage (± 5 °C). Based on the test parameters indicate that B2 was the best treatment for 10 days of cold temperature storage (± 5 °C), with the results of organoleptic tested, namely the value of appearance (7.2) with brilliant criteria, intact, and brownish white; aroma value (8.0) which was typical of freshwater mussel meat, specific spices, a little aroma of durian and jackfruit seed starch; taste value (7.4) which was tasty, typical of freshwater mussel meat, a little taste of durian and jackfruit seed starch; texture value (7.9) which was springy, solid, not brittle; while the folding tested value (40) was not cracked if folded by a quarter circle.
