Abstract

This is an experimental research using Problem Based Learning Model as atreatment. The objective of the research is identify the effectiveness of the Problem BasedLearning to student attitude toward mathematics lesson. Sample of the research 120 fromMadrasyah Tsanawiyah student in Pekanbaru. The two treatment group 60 students in eachgroup. The first treatment Group using Problem Based Learning with ‘media ceker'. Whilethe second treatment Group using treatment Problem Based Learning with 'log number line'.Instrument were used in the research of student attitude toward mathematics isquestionnaire. The research result shows that the student attitude score toward mathematicslesson post treatment more positive than before treatment.

Abstract

The aim of this classroom action research is to improve the student’s ability inwriting report texts. The sample respondents were 40 students of STIFAR engaged inEnglish subject. Before the treatment was conducted, the sample was given pre-test and afterthe treatment, post-test was also held. The result of observation (52, 95%) and mean score oftest of cycle I (62, 30) cannot full fill the minimum criteria applied, 70. The action iscontinued at cycle II by continuing to apply Error analysis activities at cycle I and give moremotivation and support to be more active in doing Error analysis activities. Beside that,special guidance for those who need is also provided outside class. In fact, there is a highincrease of observation and test result at cycle II compare to the increase in cycle I. Thestudent’s ability in doing Error analysis activities becomes 77, 22 % and the mean score ofthe test is 75,3 The result this research shows that the criteria applied has been achieved andthis means that Error Analysis strategy is very active to increase student’s ability incomprehending writing text report in English.

Abstract

Lecturing activities in the campus should be in the form of student-centeredlearning, in which lecturers as the educators have a role to facilitate the learning activities tobe optimally running. However, the low activity of students has an impact on the learningoutcomes. One of the efforts to improve the students’ activities in learning is byimplementing the task presentation with the numbered-head system. Through this activity, itis expected that the students’ activity in the classroom would significantly improve andwould impact the learning out comes. This research has been applied in two cycles on theeven semester of 2010/2011 in the class of B2 (Non-Regular) Chemistry EducationDepartment. The result of the research showed that there was a significant improvement onstudents’ activities from 68,9 % in the cycle 1 up to 70,3 % in the cycle 2. The impact onstudents’ learning outcomes was also increased, from the average of 46,20 up to 66,47. Thestudents were in the perception of strongly agree (3,34) on the treatment given, therefore, theefforts on improving students’ learning activities and learning outcomes could be achieved.

Abstract

A survey has been done on 46 teachers who taught Physics in grade VII and VIIIon 12 junior high schools within Pekanbaru. The respondents were selected from the schools thathad already have science laboratories. This survey was aimed to know the intensity and somedifficulties faced by the teachers in doing lab works while teaching science, especially Physics.The data of this research was collected by using questionnaires, and analyzed descriptively. Theresult of the research showed that the implementation of experiments while learning Physicswere rarely done by teachers. It was identified that there were some things causing teachersreluctant to do the experiments in the laboratory, according to the teachers’ perception. Someconstraints were include: 1. The intensity of teachers in joining laboratory workshops was stilllow, 2. The availability of the laboratory equipment was still not enough, 3. The material ofscience in high schools was very tight, therefore teachers were forced to give lecture than havingexperiments in the laboratory, 4. The learning objectives were quite difficult to be achievedthrough lab works, 5. Doing experiment was needed much time in preparation, 6. The time ofdoing experiment in each meeting always not enough, 7. The teachers’ knowledge on using thelaboratory equipment was still low, 8. The teachers faced difficulties in designing their ownworksheets, 9. Having no laboratory assistant to help teachers to do Physics experiments.

Abstract

This study was aimed to improve the scientific attitudes andlearning outcomes of students in learning Biology by applying the “5ELearning Cycle”teaching modelinXIScience 4 class of SMAN 5 Pekanbaruin the academic year of 2011/2012. The study was conducted from Septemberto October2011. The subjects of the research were the students of XI Science4 class of SMAN 5 Pekanbaru, totaling 39 people. The parameters measuredwere the students’ scientific attitudes, students’ learning outcomes, students’and teacher’sactivities. In the first cycle the average of students’ scientificattitudeswas69.73% (Fair), and it wasincreasedin the second cycle up to84.75% (Good). Moreover, the students’ capability in comprehending thematerials givenin the first cyclewas76.95 (Less), and it was increased upto82.90in the second cycle (Enough).On the other side, the students’mastery,seeing from their post-testin the first cyclewas64.11% (Mastering)and35.89% (Not Mastering), and it was increasedin the second cycletobe84.61%(Mastering) and15.39% (Not Mastering). The activitiesof1studentsin the first cyclewas63.01% (Fair), and it wasincreasedin the secondcycleup to81.94% (Good). All of the teachers’ activitiesin the firstcyclewiththeaverage of 91.67% (Good) increasedin the second cycletobe100% (Excellent). Therefore, it can be concluded from this research thatthe application of5ELearning Cycleteaching model was successfullyimprovedthe scientific attitudes and learning out comes of studentsin learningBiology at XIScience 4 of SMAN 5Pekanbaruin the academic yearof2011/2012.

Abstract

An Action Research was done in class x.7 of SMAN 1 Pekanbaru becausestudents’ achievement tends to be decreased that is caused by the minimal participation ofthe students in learning process even though it is in discussion classes. The research subjectis class x.7 that consists of 13 male student and 16 females. The method of CooperationLearning Type TGT is one of the suitable methods to make students involved more activeand creative in learning process. In Research was done in two cyeles of 8 meetings, the firstand the fifth meeting were the experimental class. At the end of meetings there was atournament to gather group ccore. Every cycles was ended by daily test and observationsheet. The Result of the research shows that there is increasing of students’ participation inlearning process during the class observation. There is also a significant increasing ofstudents’ achievement from cycle 1 to cycle 2 that the increasing of the average score of55,35 to 70,17 in cycle 1 and 72,62 in cycle 2. The number of students who passed KKM(minimal score) is also increased from 6 students (20,69%) to 18 students (62,07%) and 23students (79,31%). However, the classical students’ achievement couldn’t pass 85% yetwhether in cycle 1 or in cycle 2.
