Jurnal Tathwir adalah jurnal ilmiah tentang isu-isu sosial dan perkembangan masyarakat Islam. Jurnal ini pertama kali diterbitkan pada bulan April 2009 oleh Departemen Pengembangan Masyarakat Islam (PMI), Fakultas Dakwah UIN Imam Bonjol Padang. Nama Jurnal Tathwir terinspirasi dari semangat perubahan yang merupakan derivasi dari kata “tathwir” (perubahan). Jurnal ini terbit secara berkala setiap bulan April dan Oktober. Jurnal Tathwir memuat artikel-artikel dari hasil penelitian dan pengabdian masyarakat yang berkaitan dengan kajian ilmu-ilmu sosial keagamaan.

Abstract

Neglected elderly are one of the people with social welfare problems which are important to overcome. Considering that the elderly population is quite large and the number of abandoned elderly is increasing, the government's help and assistance is needed. The government, through social services, has an empowerment program that is suitable for dealing with neglected elderly problems related to physical, psychological, social and economic aspects. This study aims to look at strategies for empowering neglected elderly people through the Serambi Medina Elderly Palace program. This research is qualitative research with a descriptive analysis approach. Information and data from informants were obtained through observation and interviews. Data analysis techniques through data collection methods, data reduction and drawing conclusions. The results of the research show that; 1) Enabling companions provide motivational encouragement or enthusiasm for the elderly, there is fulfillment of the needs of the elderly, as well as information disclosure for the elderly. 2) Empowering, the elderly have been provided with facilities such as the existence of supporting facilities and infrastructure, health services, cooking training and the availability of funding institutions. 3) Protecting the elderly who are enrolled in the Serambi Medina Elderly Palace program have been protected by protection, regulations and special attention from the government and related agencies.

Abstract

The changes faced by the elderly have the potential to become a source of pressure in life from various aspects of life. So that the elderly become vulnerable people who continue to fight for life until the end. The elderly have continued to carry out various professions in the informal sector to be able to stay strong and survive without depending on others. The aim of the research is to find out the problems of the elderly from personal, socio-economic and spiritual aspects. Research using qualitative methods is descriptive. The research location was in the Piai Tangah Village, RT 01 RW 03. The research subjects were elderly people who worked in the informal sector, using the accidental sampling technique, as many as 7 people were obtained. Data collection techniques are observation and interviews. The findings of the study are, the elderly say decreased physical ability affects the activities of the elderly at work. The elderly withdraw from the environment because they no longer have peers, feel alienated from the environment, and choose to work so that the elderly are busy with their work activities. Still working makes the elderly feel empowered in society even though it sometimes creates feelings of inferiority in society, they feel not cared for by their family, they are lonely, they feel alienated from society but they are elderly. Working interferes with the elderly's worship time, such as: not being able to pray five times a day at the mosque, not being able to attend religious lectures and recitations.
