Abstract

Scientific attitude is an important element in learning Natural Sciences (IPA) which must be instilled early on. However, many studies reveal that students in elementary schools still have a low scientific attitude so it takes some effort to improve it. Efforts that can be done include implementing a learning model and media that are thought to facilitate students in developing their scientific attitude, one of which is the Guided Inquiry model with Sparkol Videoscribe learning media. This research has the aim of improving students' scientific attitudes by applying the Guided Inquiry model assisted by Sparkol Videoscribe in science learning. The method used in this study is a quasi-experimental type of experimental research and the Nonequivalent control group design. The population in this study were all grade 5 students of elementary schools in Cigasong Sub-district, Majalengka with the sample being grade 5 students of SDN Cicenang 1, Majalengka of two classes. The results of the study illustrate that the scientific attitude of students who obtained the Guided Inquiry model assisted by Sparkol Videoscribe was better than students who obtained conventional learning. From these results, it can be concluded that the Guided Inquiry model assisted by Sparkol Videoscribe is effective in improving students' scientific attitudes.

Abstract

Educational innovation, in its early days, aims to improve educational quality. Active and experiential learning, as well as authentic assessment, are examples of educational innovation. The goal of high-impact practices is to make education more intentional, coherent, developmental, and transformative. This paper examines the evolution of educational innovation research conducted globally based on the Scopus and WoS database. The parameters considered in this study embrace the growth of publications, suubject areas, source titles, countries, institutions, author and authors’ keywords. Another intriguing finding concerns the source title; the Journal of Physics: Conference Series leads 18 publications. In addition, this study indicated that Putra A.B.N.R., of the Universitas Negeri Malang in the Indonesia, is the most active author, having published 6 documents. Other databases, such as PubMed and Google Scholar, can be used to obtain more detailed metadata. Our research contributes to future research trends by providing visualisation and cutting-edge knowledge of educational innovation

Abstract

The objective of this study was to corroborate the dimensions of ecocentric governance: conflict between authorities and users, negotiation and agreement between the parties, and co-responsible self-regulation between the rulers and the ruled regarding energy and water resources and services. An exploratory, cross-sectional and psychometric study was carried out with a non-probabilistic selection of 100 officials and users of the electricity and water service. The Governance Inventory was used, and the three preponderant factors were obtained: conflict, negotiation-consensus, and self-regulation-co-responsibility. In relation to the literature consulted, the three factors refer to governance oriented towards resource conservation. The third factor of self-regulation and co-responsibility suggests policies oriented by the availability of energy and water resources. Empirical testing of the model in a scenario and a sample exposed to resource scarcity is recommended.

Abstract

Assessment is the basis for understanding students’ abilities to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and understanding of learned concepts. This study sought to analyse assessment items of student teachers with hearing impairments at Kitwe Colleges of Education in Zambia and a qualitative case study was used as the research design. The study comprised seven (7) participants of which three (3) were Lecturers and four (4) were student teachers with hearing impairments, who were purposively sampled. The study revealed that students with hearing impairments were able to answer assignments accordingly despite exhibiting referencing and grammatical errors, and experienced more challenges answering tests. The findings also indicated that lecturers viewed the performance of student teachers with hearing impairments in assignments as being influenced by their hearing peers and that students with hearing impairments wrote their assignments and tests using sign language that was not making sense to lecturers. The study concluded that student teachers with hearing impairments were able to perform better in assignments and that they experienced more challenges answering test questions. The study recommended the need for assessment items for students with hearing impairments to be adapted to make them appropriate for the students and that educators for students with hearing impairments should take a keen interest in acquiring knowledge of Zambia Sign Language grammatical structure to enable them to assess and mark assessment items of students with hearing impairments without difficulties.

Abstract

Self-injurious behaviour (SIB) is highly prevalent in the population of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), with one-third of the sample engaging in it and in most cases, SIB is automatically reinforced. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to examine the effectiveness of the noncontingent matched stimulation (NCRMS) procedure in combination with wearing wrist weights on reducing automatically reinforced SIB in an 11-year-old participant with ASD and epilepsy who exhibited high rates of head and chin SIB, as well as to examine the effectiveness of the isolated application of those two procedures. NCRMS procedure alone leads to immediate SIB reduction for head SIB of 75% on average while for chin SIB leads to 90% of reduction on average. Wrist weight wearing alone was not as efficient, since it led to head SIB reduction of 31% on average and chin SIB reduction with an average of 51%. A combination of those two procedures was proven to be successful in reducing SIB, with the average success rate of 93% for head SIB and 98% for chin SIB. We believe that wearing wrist weights only increased response effort for engaging in problem behaviour, while the NCRMS procedure matched the reinforcing properties of SIB and consequently reduced it. It is important to examine the practical aspect of wearing massagers outside of the house because it can lead to attracting negative attention from others and future research might examine the acceptability of NCRMS procedure implementation that involves the use of certain objects that are not socially acceptable for public use.
