Abstract

English is now increasingly used by non-native speakers and translanguaging can be used by all teachers to ensure that students understand the subject matter throughout the teaching speaking process. This study aims to examine the teacher's practices and intentions regarding the use of translanguaging in teaching speaking and to examine how EFL students respond to translanguaging practices in EFL speaking classroom.  This is a descriptive case study focusing on an EFL teacher and five EFL students in a vacational high school setting. Data collection methods include observation and semi-structured interviews using thematic data analysis. The results show translanguaging practice occurred in speaking classroom, which served several purposes including to encourage student's active participation, reinforce learning, provide specific areas of improvement, and provide model repetition. The students responded positively to the use of translanguaging, finding it facilitates a quick understanding, makes less fluent in English and helpful in understanding the lessons in speaking classroom. They emphasised the benefits of translanguaging and preferred to use it because it can be an effective strategy to address the challenges of learning speaking. The study concludes that allowing students to use their native language when speaking classroom can improve comprehension.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the administrative needs of teachers in elementary schools. At this stage the researcher made observations of several elementary school teachers in Jejawi District regarding the administration carried out so far. Interviews were conducted during testing with teacher representatives to find out what needed to be improved before the validation instrument was used. Data collection in this research used qualitative data. Analysis techniques in qualitative research focus more on the details of understanding a problem in depth rather than on the problem as a generalized subject of study. The data that researchers need to analyze is the use of Google Sites as an online service that makes it easier for teachers to more practically download teacher administration created by researchers in one link. Based on observations of teachers who carry out administration manually, only 24% of teachers complete administration. This research is expected to increase the administrative work of teachers in elementary schools by up to 100%. Thus, it can be concluded that this analysis of teacher administration needs is useful for designing and building a Google Sites-based teacher administration system so that teachers can easily manage elementary school teacher administration.

Abstract

This study aims to define the need for Merdeka curriculum-based electronic modules for physics learning phase F. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. Data was collected through interviews, questionnaires, and observation. The results showed that teachers and students used technology in learning physics. They realize that using teaching materials such as electronic modules based on the Merdeka curriculum is essential. However, the number of physics teaching materials is still limited, especially the electronic modules for physics learning phase F. Phase F teachers and students need physics teaching materials based on a Merdeka curriculum. Some students who have not met the minimum learning outcomes try to find these teaching materials through tutoring outside of school. Indicators of Merdeka curriculum-based teaching materials include: 1) teaching materials have process skill syntax, 2) learning is structured using the Understanding by Design approach, and 3) teaching materials have components that support strengthening the Profil Pelajar Pancasila in learning. This is by the mandate of learning in the Merdeka curriculum. The development of physics teaching materials needs to be done to achieve the objectives of learning physics in the Merdeka curriculum.

Abstract

Many of the problems that occur in the implementation of education in Indonesia are not only due to the education system but can also be suspected to be due to the perpetrators of the education providers themselves. In reality, there are still quite a lot of school-age people who do not go to school because of the problem of expensive education costs. Thus, in conditions of very limited funds and schools faced with diverse needs, schools must be able to make decisions while still being guided by quality improvement. This study aims to analyze the role and strategy of schools in financing education to improve the quality of education. The research method used is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection was conducted through preliminary analysis of teachers and principals, observations to schools, and interviews of administration staff, teachers and principals at SMA PGRI 12 Jakarta. The results showed that one of the factors that influence the quality of education in a school is the role and strategy of the school in managing its education financing. Thus, the correlation created between school financing and the quality of education can be clearly seen in teaching and learning activities.
