Abstract

Fennel has been cultivated in Indonesia as a spice and medicinal plant. Fennel can produce fennel oil, which is the result of distillation from dry and ripe fennel fruit powder, while fennel leaves are mainly cooked to make vegetables. The ?-amylase enzyme plays an important role in the breakdown of oligosaccharides and disaccharides into monosaccharides so that they are ready for absorption. Inhibition of the ?-amylase enzyme can delay and prolong the digestion time of carbohydrates, causing a decrease in the rate of glucose absorption and preventing an increase in postpandrial plasma glucose levels. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the ethanol extract of fennel leaves (Foeniculum vulgare Mill.) Against the inhibitory activity of the ?-amylase enzyme using Elisa Reader. The experimental research method was applied to test the ethanol extract of secondary metabolite compounds from fennel leaves against the inhibition of ?-amylase enzyme activity. The results showed that the IC50 value in the fennel leaf extract was 1.432 ?g/mL while the IC50 acarbose as a comparison was 3.340 ?g/mL. In conclusion, the ethanol extract of fennel leaves can be used to reduce blood sugar levels.

Abstract

This article presents a quality of life profile for HIV patients who have undergone controlled antiretroviral therapy. Specifically, researchers reviewed the unique needs of research subjects for psychological and environmental support. The research took place at the Regional General Hospital KRT Setjonegoro Wonosobo, involving 68 research subjects. All study subjects were HIV patients undergoing controlled antiretroviral therapy (outpatient) with a duration of more than six months and were aged more than 15 years. Investigation of the quality of life profile used the Indonesian version of the WHOQOL-HIV Bref questionnaire. The results showed that HIV patients who underwent controlled therapy had a higher quality of life score than general HIV patients. Antiretroviral treatment has helped them have physical qualities, independence, spiritual side, and social abilities in living life. Even so, they need psychological intervention and environmental support to have consistent quality of themselves. Health workers involved in managing HIV patients need to provide professional interventions to improve their ability to concentrate and ensure that they are always comfortable with their physical condition. Further, there is a need for cooperation by relationships (family, friends, community) and health workers to ensure that HIV patients do not experience financial difficulties, enjoy time in a relaxed manner, and feel safe as part of the environment society in general.

Abstract

Falling is a common occurrence in the elderly and the risk of falling increases with age. The elderly will experience a physical deterioration in the musculoskeletal system, which causes a decrease in balance, making them prone to falling. Impaired balance is the main cause of the risk of falls in the elderly because of visual, vestibular and somatosensory disorders. The risk of falling in the elderly can lead to complications of fractures and even death. Elderly balance exercise can be used as an effort to improve the quality of life of the elderly in the community. This study aims to determine the effect of balance training (forward stepping) on ??the level of risk of falling in the elderly. The research design used a pre-experiment with the One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The sampling technique used random sampling with a total of 16 respondents with criteria over 65 years of age, independent mobility and not experiencing hearing and vision problems. The intervention was given in the form of forward stepping balance exercises 3 times a week for 4 weeks with a duration of 15 minutes. Measuring the risk of falling using the Time Up and Go Test (TUGT). The results showed that the mean age of the elderly was 72.38 ± 3.46 years, with 12 more elderly women (75%) than men. The risk of falling before being given training in the elderly was included in the light category with an average TUGT value of 17.06 seconds and after training there was a decrease to an average of 13.24 seconds. The Wilcoxon Test shows the effect of balance training (forward stepping) on ??the risk of falling in the elderly with p-value = 0.000 <0.05. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that balance training (forward stepping) can reduce the risk of falls in the elderly.

Abstract

The results of this literature review present a profile of measuring adherence to therapy in prolanis member. More specifically, the authors explored the adherence related to the sociodemographic variants. The literature search utilizes the Google Scholar data storage base. Researchers used two variants of keywords; (1) “prolanis” and “drug”, (2) “prolanis” and “pharmaceutical”. The literature search is limited to the results of publications during the years 2010-2020. Literature review studies only involve research results that meet the following inclusion criteria; (1) scientific articles published after going through the peer review process, (2) research involving sociodemographic variables and therapy adherence index, (3) research involving only prolanis participants, and (4) research results showing correlation values between variables. A total of 9 articles met the inclusion criteria according to the research objectives. This literature review involved 644 respondents from 12 health centers and 1 treatment center as subjects in this study. The results of our literature review confirm that prolanis participants need family support and adequate knowledge, in order to adhere to therapy. In addition, we also conclude that there is no relationship between gender differences and adherence to therapy. Based on these conclusions, we recommend community pharmacy practitioners, to optimize educational services and provide basic information about drugs, both to prolanis participants and their families. We note that researchers have not mutually agreed on the relationship between therapy adherence with age, education, type of work and home pharmacy care services in prolanis. The exploration of sociodemographic variables, which is still a matter of debate, is a priority for further research to identify adherence to prolanis therapy. We also suggest to future researchers to avoid the use of MMAS-8. The use of questionnaires without permission from the inventor is prone to licensing problems.
