Abstract

Backgrounds: Pregnancy is a normal physiological process experienced by women. During this COVID-19 pandemic, pregnant women have atypical experiences. The COVID-19 pandemic also instigates psychological problems in the form of anxiety and depression in pregnant women. Supports are exceedingly needed by pregnant women, especially during the current pandemic. They can take several measures during their pregnancy to reduce their level of anxiety. Objective of the study: To review evidence related to pregnant women’s experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.Review methods: This scoping review method begins with identifying scoping review questions using PEO framework; identifying relevant articles chosen based on inclusion and exclusion criteria; searching for articles using databases, namely EBSCO, PubMed, Science Direct, and Wiley Online Library; selecting articles of which search flow is described through PRISMA Flowchart; performing data charting and critical appraisal; and compiling and reporting results. Results: Based on 8 chosen articles, 7 articles are marked grade A in quantitative research design non-randomized (5), quantitative descriptive (1), qualitative (1), and 1 article is marked grade B in quantitative descriptive research design. Furthermore, there are 3 obtained themes, including psychological conditions, coping strategies and the pregnant women's needs during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic affects the pregnant women’s experiences due to the emergence of psychological responses in the form of anxiety, depression and fear. One of coping strategies carried out by pregnant women during the COVID-19 pandemic is by doing physical activities such as exercising, doing their hobbies, thinking positively and finding out information. Social supports and accurate information obtained help pregnant women to overcome their anxiety.

Living with autism is not easy for the autistic children themselves and their family members. Especially the family members who are also the main caregivers. This ethnographic study aimed to describe the ways of life of families who have children with autism at home. Data were collected through participant observations, focus group discussions and in-depth interviews. There were 20 families as key informants taken by purposive sampling who consist of mothers, grandmothers, and siblings. The data were analyzed by thematic analysis. There were four family life scenarios of family living with autistism including: 1) basic self care activity, 2) locking doors to protect the autistic children, 3) woman act as a main caregiver, 4) risk of child abuse, and 5) supporting from spouse and other family members. Main caregivers risk psychological, physical and social problems. Nurses should provide counseling to the main caregiver by deep listening to their concerns and teaching them how to manage stress. In addition, caregivers need supports from the family member particularly the husband.

Abstract

Perinatal depression (PD) is a depressive disorder in women that occurs either during pregnancy and/ or within 12 months after delivery. PD has adverse outcomes not only for mothers, but also for their children and their family/husband. A review of literature was conducted to present a comprehensive review of the available research into depression, its prevalence, risk factors and the screening tools in the context of the perinatal period. The literature will provide the background for understanding perinatal depression and will support the need for the most appropriate perinatal mental health screening-tool, particularly depression in midwifery care.

Abstract

In 2013, the graduate competence of the midwifery department that fit current job demand was only 15%. Knowledge is one of the aspects of midwifery education quality. Small-Group Discussion (SGD) is one of the forms of students centered learning (SCL) where students are demanded to solve problems through a small group discussion. The object of this study is to figure out a comparison of knowledge improvement through the use of SGD or conventional methods. The method used in the study is quantitative of experimental pre-posttest design. The researcher divides the sample into two groups, the experimental group (19) is given an SGD approach and the control group (19) is given a conventional course approach. Based on the Independent Sample T-test, the value of Sig. (2-tailed) is 0.006 (0.05). Hence, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the average score of students’ knowledge level in the SGD group and the conventional group. The SGD group appears to have a higher improvement of average score, which is from 6.3 to 8.1 while the average score of the conventional group is from 6.1 to 6.8. Hence, it is considered that the SGD learning method can improve knowledge of midwifery students and can be used as an effective alternative method to achieve a student-centered learning system for other midwifery institutions.

The respondent criteria were mothers who had stunting toddler aged 12-36 months and were not experiencing mental health. The analysis in this study used univariate and bivariate test. Pretest was provided before education was provided and post test was conducted 2 weeks after education.Result: Univariate test which is used is chi-square test and bivariate analysis is conducted through Independent Sample T-test. The finding of this study showed that there is enhancement of knowledge on case group after responsive feeding education is given however there is no enhancement in attitude. While in control group does not experience an enhancement both knowledge and attitude after education is given. Conclusion: Providing responsive feeding education can enhance mother’s knowledge about good feeding on stunting babies although it requires education for more than 2 weeks for increasing mother’s attitude in feeding of stunting babies.
