Abstract

Abstract: This article specifically describes how a scientific theory is formed and placed as an epistemic truth, even in the end it becomes a paradigm that influences scientific methodologies in various different scientific fields. This is in line with the scientific revolution proposed by Thomas S. Kuhn. The discussion in this article will focus on the development of the theory of evolution proposed by Charles Darwin in the field of biology, viewed from the perspective of the scientific revolution of Thomas S. Kuhn. This effort was made because in its development, Darwin's theory of evolution has historically been the starting point for theoretical revolutions in the field of biology, and even in other scientific fields. This historical explanation of how the development process of Darwin's theory of evolution shifted, and even undermined previous scientific theories, became a starting point for a radical theoretical transformation in the development of science which was viewed from Kuhn's analysis through his theoretical schema of the revolution of a scientific theory. This becomes very important for researchers and the general public, especially to provide an explanation that the epistemic truth in science is not a sudden speculative knowledge, as is the ontological truth in religious knowledge and cultural knowledge. The methodical approach used in this article will use a historical continuity approach, heuristics, and interpretation. The type of analysis in this article falls into the analysis of scientific theory. This article was written with the aim of providing a description, evidence, and argument that the paradigm shift of science from the pre-Darwinian evolutionary period to the Darwinian evolutionary period is a description of a radical theoretical transformation process that occurs instantly in a scientific field, which in Kuhn's thinking is passed through The main phases are normal science, anomaly, crisis, and scientific revolution. Keywords: The Theory of Evolution, Scientific Revolution, Charles Darwin, Thomas S. Abstract

Abstract: Plastic surgery to change the shape of the nose (rhynoplasty) is a controversy that is present today as knowledge increases in the field of medical technology, increasing aesthetic influence which presents new trends in influencing a person's shape and appearance. On the other hand, nose reconstruction (septoplasty) is also needed because of an accident, disease or certain conditions in the nose. This paper analyzes the issue of plastic surgery on the nose as an effort to provide an understanding of biblical ethics to place this phenomenon in accordance with Christian ethical principles. The goal is for God's people to consider biblical and ethical principles in making ethical decisions before undergoing plastic surgery. In this study, researchers used descriptive analysis methods and literature studies. The type of data used is in the form of various books and articles according to the theme of the discussion. Based on existing research, researchers found that nose specialist plastic surgery procedures must be carried out according to the conditions that occur and are supported by clear goals and motivation. Such as plastic surgery of the cetoplasty type which is mandatory for the method of healing the respiratory tract in the nose and plastic surgery of the rhinoplasty type which actually does not have to be done because it is contrary to God's will, and does not agree with the perspective of bioethics and Christian ethics. It is possible to do this surgical procedure, but it must be based on clear reasons and objectives, and supported by the unavailability of other options apart from how necessary this operation must be carried out.Key words: Plastic Surgery, Septoplasty, Rhinoplasty, Christian Ethics

Abstract

Abstract: This paper intends to explore the idea of synodality proposed by Pope Francis as the main theme of the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops in 2023. From the results of literature research, the author finds that the idea of synodality, in fact, is not new and does not even have a theological basis. The Holy Trinity and the Eucharist are the two theological foundations of the idea of synodality. So that the theme of synodality does not just stop at an idea and a dream, Pope Francis also provides explains the method and dangers during the synod process. The synod method, which can also be useful for the Church's pastoral method, is meeting, listening, and discernment. The danger in the synod process and the life of the Church is a formalism that is triggered by clericalism, intellectualism, and complacency. From the exploration of the two theological foundations and the discourse of Pope Francis regarding the idea of synodality, the primacy of God in the life of the Church, faith as the basis of true participation in the life of the Church, and mission as a consequence of faith, are three important things that need to be constantly considered so that the idea of synodality can be understood and applied appropriately. Keywords:  Church, Synodality, Pope Francis.

Abstract

Abstract: The Asian reality is characterized by religious and cultural diversity. Social changes and especially poverty are the complexities they contain. In such circumstances, the Church is called to face this reality. Theologians are trying to find an understanding of theology that fits the Asian context. C.S. Song is an Asian theologian who tries to respond to this reality with a thought about the theology of Rahim that he explains using the narrative method. The theology of Rahim is a theology that guides humans to God's love and suffering and leads humans to freedom, justice and peace. The basic premise of Rahim's theology is contained in Passio: Passio as the starting point of theology, Rahim as Passio's "Mountain of Fire", and the disappearance of Passio in Christian Theology. Passio means love and suffering. Passio becomes suffering when faced with the reality of poverty, oppression, and it is precisely through that suffering that Passio becomes true love. Through the above understanding, the Church is called to realize its mission as a prophet who can present the Kingdom of God in the lives of the faithful. C.S. Song through the Theology of Rahim invites every believer to participate in realizing the Kingdom of God in the world. This participation should give birth to solidarity for others who are suffering, oppressed and exploited. Keywords: Asian Theology, poverty, suffering, Passio, Choan Seng-Song, Womb Theology

Abstract

ABSTRACT:This article talks about the problem of violence against women in the Maumere and Larantuka dioceses, Flores, NTT and how religion (Catholic Church) functions in dealing with it. The aim is to identify the forms of violence, their causes and effects in both dioceses and what the function of religion (Catholic Church) is to prevent and deal with these problems. Interview methods, focused group discussions (FGD) and document studies were used to collect data, while descriptive qualitative analysis was used for data analysis. The results show that violence against women is found in both areas of the diocese with physical, psychological, verbal, economic, cultural-based and online violence. The Catholic Church through the Diocesan Commission on Gender and Women's Empowerment carries out educational, control, fraternal, and transformative functions. This is done in direct collaboration and through networks with multi-stakeholders, although this is not sufficient. This study recommends the importance of strengthening institutional capacity and increasing network collaboration. KEYWORDS: Commission on Gender and Women's Empowerment, institutional capacity, network collaboration, violence against women, women empowerment.

Abstract

Abstract: This article attempts to reconstruct and analyse the Habermas’ view on democracy as discourse and deliberation. The concept of deliberative and discursive democracy is a model of criticism toward an attempt to narrow the conception about democracy simply as an institutional matter. The concept of deliberative democracy emphasizes the importance of public discursive participation of citizens by establishing critical public sphere that is the heart of democracy. Furthermore, Habermas highlights that there is no rule of law without radical democracy. Such radical democracy is expressed through the active involvement of citizens in public sphere to express ideas that have impact on political decisions and public policy. This article accentuates that the transformation of public opinion to be a political power is an ongoing process. Therefore, an authentic democracy presupposes a critical publicity and democratic political culture. Without a voluntary citizens’ initiative in this regard, a state will have no future. To support thisarguments, the writer uses literature research method by analyzing the main work of Jȕrgen Habermas on deliberative democracy namely Faktizitӓt und Geltung (Facts and Norms), as well as some secondary literatures dealing with the thoughts of Habermas on democracy. Keywords: Habermas, deliberative democracy, discourse, pluralism, state

Abstract: Every narrative in the Bible has not only theological insight but also social-communal aspect. Thus, the biblical narrative contains inspiration for today's social life. One such narrative is the story of the Syrophoenician woman in Mark 7:24-30. This article studies the identity of Syrophoenician woman in the light of Social Identity Theory. This research is important because it is not common to investigate the identity of women with scientific social theory in the narrative of the Bible. By this research, we get an explanation of the identity of the Syrophoenician woman and her struggles as a woman and the mother of a daughter who is possessed by a demon. Syrophoenician woman is regainner respectable identity, namely domestic (family) affairs. Moreover, she has also gives an example for other women to be brave crossing geographical, political, cultural, and ethnic boundaries for salvation.Key words Syrophoenician Woman, Social Identity Theory, Jewish, Mediterranian, Social Identity

Abstract

Abstract: This article departs from the declaration of the global ethos, which was declared by the Parliament of World Religions in Chicago, in 1993. It expresses the belief that many people can agree with the principles and values stated in it. After that the question is raised how this ethos can be implemented. To answer this question, the article follows the suggestion of Hans Küng, the initiator of the global ethos, that every religion should investigate its traditions, in order to find a deeper understanding of these values and the motivations that can help to develop attitudes that support these values. So in this article a description is made of the Christian tradition, of God’s law and the essence of sin as a force and as human action. Then the whole history of salvation is described as an attempt from God to introduce himself with His true face as God who wants humans to have life in all the abundance, which therefore can be trusted as the basis and guarantor of human life and existence. Finally follows the conclusion that this truth about God needs to be proclaimed by the Christian Church, so that in response to God’s actions and works, humans can become able to let go selfishness and compulsion to seek as much wealth and power for themselves as possible. So people can become capable of practicing the values as stated in the declaration of the global ethos. Keywords: global ethos, parliament of world religions, God’s law, core power of sin, Paul’s theology, justification, covenant theology.
