Abstract

The research carried out in alo-pohu watershed gorontalo province aims atidentifying the effect of watershed conditions and land use on the amount sheeterosion, sediment yield and sediment delivery ratio. It is also intended to developthem in a spatio-temporal distribution, and give recommendation for managementof environmental condition and land use in alo-pohu watershed to prevent damageerosion and sediment. Data on environmental condition and land use werecollected by interpreting landsat images and topography map. Data on surfaceerosion were obtained by means of direct measurement using 10 erosion plotsplaced in the land units. Data on sediment were obtained by collecting watersamplesfrom the upper course, middle course, and lower course of the rivers. Dataon sheet erosion and.sediment yield were analyzed in a spatio-temporal mannerusing geographic information systems (gis) and effect of watershed conditions andland utilization on sheet erosion, sediment yield, and sediment delivery ratio aretested using double regression analysis. The research results suggest significanteffect of watershed conditions and land use on sheet erosion. the largest amount oferosion very likely occurred in wasteland (bero land) with steep slopes whereas theleast amount of erosion was found in undergrowth with flat slope (0-8%). theamount of sheet erosion was 122.24 ton/ha/year. sediment yield in alo-pohu wasaffected to a large extent by runoff rate, the width of watershed, percentage ofwasteland, and drainage density.

Abstract

The HyMap hyper-spectral data was used to classify photosyntheticvegetation (PV), non-photosynthetic vegetation (NPV), and exposed soils in a semiaridsavannah environment of McKinlay, northern Queensland, and Australia. Thisstudy aimed to understandhow effective the sub-pixel classificationapproach appliedon hyper-spectral data to distinguish the vegetation and soil features in semi-aridenvironment. In contrast to the per-pixel approach this approach treats the pixelvalue as reflectance sum of its composite features, and shows its componentabundance. The most commonly used sub-pixel classification technique was used inthis research, namely Linear Spectral Unmixing (LSU). End members were used asthe input class, and the result was compared with the standard maximum likelihoodclassification (MLC) using post-classification comparison method The result of thisstudy shows that LSU produced a patchy distribution of classes throughout theimage. The brown soil tends to be over-estimated with respect to other classes. PVfeatures were relatively well-mapped compare to other classes. NPV features haveproblem with domination of exposed soil reflectance. This is equivalent to theprevious studies result that background soil dominates the spectral reflectance inthis environment. According to the qualitative accuracy assessment, LSU hashigher accuracy in representing PV and NPV compare to the traditional MLCclassification.

Abstract

The research aims to (iesign a determination modelfor the locations of ICTbased economic service particularly the ATM (Automatic Teller Machine) service.The initial step of this research was to compile a database of the ATM service useby respondents in JjJekasiCity. The data base covered the locations of the ATMsthe respondents visited and their reasons for choosing those locations. The nextstep was to perform the network and spatial analysis by using Arc View GIS 3.x todetermine the optimal service locations. The research result shows that: 1) Thelocations of ATM placement were mostly found in areas of trade and service,industry and regular residence, 2) The orientation of ATM location developmentrequired by the people was on regular and irregular residence considering theshort distance, 3) In determining optimal ATM locations attention must be paid tothe parameter of distance between the location and trade and service areas as wellas the regular residence. The use of network analysis is indeed helpful indeveloping model of the service location in the determination of optimal servicearea.

Abstract

The erosion map data is one of important data used in planningconservation of degraded land. Generally, erosion data is predicted using a modelbecause to gain actual erosion requires much resource (timely, costly and labourintensive). USLE (Universal Soil Loss Equation) is one of existing erosion modelsapplied worlwide, including Indonesia. Nevertheless, erosion analysis conducted isbased on analysis using vector-based maps. This method involves simplification,either algorithms or procedures, and subject to subjectivity, so the result has highuncertainty. This article deals with the idea to build a fully raster-based erosionmodeling. Steps required to obtain raster-based data was highlighted as from thebeginning up to the model validation to get an absolute model. The integration ofremote sensing and GIS was inevitably usedfor the analysis.

Abstract

In an attempt to understand the association between migration andconsumer behavior, a primary survey based. on 84 sample households wasconducted in Balasore district of Orissa in India. It was well evident from thecurrent study that not only migration was associated with the household articlepossession diffirential but also by one way or the other it could bring lots ofchanges in the perception, attitude and behavior of the individuals, related toconsumption and marketing.

Abstract

One of the aims of this short paper is to sketch human geographicaldimensions of decentralized Indonesia. The paper is structured around a series ofsub-disciplinary issues that arise from processes evident over the past decade. Ineach case, I seek to develop a theme around existing work by geographerspublished in English language internationally-refereed journals. In this way, asecond aim of the paper is to provide (especially for Indonesian geographers whooften do not or cannot access these 'international' journals) a sense of the range ofwork that is considered to constitute 'human geography' in English-speakingacademic worlds. In other words, I suggest pathways for human geographicalresearch in an era of decentralization in Indonesia building upon existingscholarship published in the English language.
