Abstract

Learning media is one of the most important component in a learning process, both inside or outside a classroom. In order to provide proper learning for students based on the researcher’s prior research, at least, three different field tests are needed. This research is a quasi-experiment, which is provide result of the second field test of cellulose degrading bacteria from mangrove soil microbiology handout both in cognitive and psychomotor ability. The research aims are to describe effect of this microbiology handout on student’s cognitive achievement and gain data about inappropriate laboratory written instruction in this handout. Data gained by conducting learning activities using developed handout which were 2 times in class theory and three times of practical activity using instuctions written in the handout. In the end of class theory activity, students did a posttest to confirm their improvement of cognitive ability while their practical ability was observed using observation sheet along with their activities. Results showed that handout which being tested could improve student cognitive at average level (n gain 0,419). In contrast, several parts of laboratory written instruction need to be fixed to make better microbiology handout.

Abstract

Growth is the process of increasing the number of cell protoplasm in an organism accompanied by an increase in size, weight and number of cells that cannot return to their previous state. One of the factors that influence the growth of koi carp is feed. Good feed is feed that can meet the nutritional needs of the koi carp. The addition of tapioca flour in the feed formula, which contains artificial feed, tapioca flour, and water in the koi carp feed, is one of the proper steps because of the increase in carbohydrate doses that can support the growth of the koi carp. This study aims to determine the benefits of adding tapioca flour to the artificial feed of the koi carp (Cyprinus rubrofuscus) and to determine the effect and the most appropriate dose of adding tapioca flour to the artificial diet of the koi carp (Cyprinus rubrofuscus). The research method used is a quantitative research method accompanied by direct observation and analysis of research data, which is also accompanied by a literature study method from previous studies to support the findings in the research results. The results showed that  the more feed formula was given, the faster the growth of the koi carp produced. But must be accompanied by the right dose, which is 8 grams of feed formula once a day. While the benefits of adding tapioca flour in carp feed are increasing carp production, prolonging goldfish life expectancy, increasing efficiency and nutritional content in carp feed, increasing carp appetite accompanied by increased growth. Keywords: Goldfish Koi, Growth, Feed, Carbohydrates, Tapioca Starch

Abstract

Lung cancer is a disease that is in the top 10 causes of death globally. It is caused by CYP1A1 and YWHAZ genes expressed in the lungs. One of the solutions offered for lung cancer sufferers is gene therapy. Gene therapy for lung cancer is focused on the knock-down of expressed CYP1A1 and YWHAZ genes. It can be using shRNA transfected into lung cells by lentivirus. The lentivirus envelope is modified using glycoprotein filovirus, one of which is ebolavirus. Lentivirus pseudotyping can recognize certain cells. Especially, Ebolavirus can recognize lung cells. The lentiviral gene is designed to carry the gene of interest (shRNA) but no the infectious gene. The shRNA gene transfused into lung cancer cells will recognize and complement the specific target mRNA sites of the CYP1A1 and YWHAZ genes. After that, shRNA will cut the mRNA which should be expressed into a cancer protein. Unexpressed mRNA into protein causes cancer cell growth inhibited. Thus, this gene therapy solution is expected to be able to reduce the rate of death caused by lung cancer. Keywords: Lung cancer, CYP1A1 and YWHAZ genes, gene therapy, lentiviral, shRNA
