Abstract

The average height of the Indonesians population has increased a few centimeters for the last 50 years, although Indonesians are short. However, a secular trend in height was still unclear. Currently, the Indonesians adult population is averagely shorter than the modern World Health Organization (WHO) reference males and females. Thus, when comparing the height of Indonesian children with several growth measurements, a significant portion of the children is below the critical limit. This review aimed to discuss the correlation between deficiency vitamin D and low body height

Abstract

Rabies, transmitted through a bite from a dog, is a highly fatal disease that is a health hazard throughout the world including Indonesia. In February 2019, there was an outbreak of rabies at Dompu, West Nusa Tenggara (WNT), Indonesia. As such, Dompu district has become one of the beginning points for many rabies cases being experienced in WNT. Lately, there have been fatal cases of the outbreak to the tune of 1,315 victims due to rabies-borne animal bite. Among these cases, nine of them are human rabies. Out of the 182 samples examined for brain rabid animal, 90 turned positive. Efforts from local, provincial, and federal agencies representatives activated a rabies response involving update of policies, enhancing of surveillance, a campaign to educate the public as well as widespread vaccination of domestic and wild animals. There has not been experienced a rabies outbreak like this in WNT region, Indonesia, over the years. Therefore, there require integration of all intervention strategies as well as a collaboration of all human health, animal health, and wildlife authority to bring to a halt the outbreak. To further enhance the intervention strategies, the government is recommended to respond immediately.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease with hyperglycemia because of abnormalities of insulin. Prevalence of DM increases from year to year and is predicted by 2030 to increase to 366 million. One of the efforts that can be done to reduce the high number of patients with DM is a group of calories counseling to solve the diet problems so that they can control the blood glucose levels. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of calorie counseling on increasing knowledge, attitude, and behavior of patient dietary with DM in Semanding, Puskesmas Dau, Kabupaten Malang. The method used in this research is quasi-experimental design, a non-randomized pre-posttest control group. The samples were selected into two groups, that is the "intervention" group (n=20), and the "control" group (n=20). The method of data analysis used an independent t-test. The results showed a relationship between the calories counseling and the knowledge of dietary with p-value = 0,000, a relationship between the calories counseling and the behavior of dietary with p-value = 0,152. The research concluded that calories counseling increases the knowledge and behavior of dietary to patient DM in Semanding Dau, Kabupaten Malang.

Abstract

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in Asia-Pacific, although highly preventable, CVD was the cause of an estimated 9.4 million deaths. It accounted for one-third of all deaths in 2016. Hypertension is one of cardiovascular disease risk factors. Early detection of cardiovascular disease is the main issues to reduce the prevalence of the cardiovascular disease. Adolescence was the population in which the modifiable cardiovascular risk factor firstly developed. In the year 2018, Indonesian Health Ministry discovered that the prevalence of the cardiovascular disease in East Java was 0.2 % higher than national prevalence and Malang as one of the biggest cities in East Java with high population growth, hence early detection of cardiovascular disease become highlight issue. This cross-sectional survey was held in September 2019 at SMPN 5 Malang, which participated by 123 students (75 females and 48 males). Bivariate analysis was done to examine the correlation between each variable, and logistic regression was done to the most influential variable. Seventy-eight per cent of students were sedentary lifestyle with physical activities < 300 minutes/week, 16.2 % of students were an active smoker, and all were male. Among 123 students, 0.8 % with no cardiovascular risk factor, 29.2 % had 1 risk factor, 30.8 % had 2 risk factors, 27.6 % had 3 risk factors, and 11.3 % had 4 risk factors. The most prevalent risk factors were sedentary life (80 %), increase waist circumference (50 %), passive smoker  (48.5 %), overweight & obesity (15 %), and active smoker (14,6 %). Waist circumference above normal was more prevalent in female (65 %) than male (31%). Hypertension had been found in 14.6 % of students and had a significant correlation with heart rate (p 0.011)

Abstract

In 2016, Indonesia has been launching the “Indonesia Sehat'' program which the strategy used is to strengthen health services through a family approach. According to the 2016 Ministry of Health technical guidelines, the larva inspector, also known as Juru Pemantau Jentik (Jumantik), is involved in Jumantik participating by each family. Their role is the same as 3M plus actions including in the inspection, monitoring, and eradication of mosquito larvae for controlling infectious diseases, especially Dengue Fever. The purpose of these activities was to increase community participation to conduct a “one house one Jumantik'' program. The study was the quasi-experimental post-test only design that was located in Karangbesuki sub-district, Malang City from August until September 2017. One cluster Rukun Warga (RW) from the Karangbesuki sub-district that consisted of 9 Rukun Tetangga (RT) was chosen as the location. The intervention was in collaboration with Mulyorejo Public Health Center (Pusat Kesehatan Masyarakat / Puskesmas) in Malang. The methods used were ovitrap utilization training and focus group discussion (FGD), health promotion and "one-house one-Jumantik'' training program, also the contest to choose the best RT. The results of this activity succeeded in establishing a Jumantik team in each RT although there was one RT that has not yet succeeded in forming a team. Furthermore, for the sustainability of the program, it is hoped that this program could be improved by collaborating with Mulyorejo Puskesmas staff who monitor activities routinely through the integrated service post (Pos Pelayanan Terpadu / Posyandu).
