Abstract

This paper reviews the possible after-effects of military training given by the Sri Lankan Army to recruits and to existing army personnel who would like to be promoted to the next stage of the hierarchy. It is considered that training personnel is a major task in Sri Lankan Army as the military promotes from within and develops its leaders rather than selecting them from outside their ranks. Therefore, the process of training is expensive, yet it is one of the country’s topmost priorities since army personnel ensures the necessary security schemes in Sri Lanka while maintaining an anti-terror stance. In order to gather the required data, a questionnaire with 15 questions was provided to six retired army personnel who had served below the lieutenant position in Sri Lanka Army. Additionally, those people were interviewed with another set of interview questions in order to find out the differences between the answers they have given in the questionnaire in comparison to the interview. This paper seeks to answer the question of whether there are any after-effects the army personnel experience due to the rigorous training provided by the Sri Lankan Army even after their service period is completed. It also examines whether these effects are positively or negatively related to their daily experiences. It is hoped this study will inform the general public and the ones who are currently serving in the military about the consequences of military training.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to understand the essence of language action in legal construction as a means of communication that should rely on language grammar in interpreting the meaning of sentences. Such a method is an attempt to avoid the different interpretations of the multiple interpretations of the meaning of language. The simplification of legal language must be linked to the content of the rules, where there are two arguments regarding "intentions and extensions", before carrying out legal interpretation, then interpretation is generally understood as a process, action, series of interpreting and explaining the meaning of something that is less clear or opinion, view of the context in which it is interpreted. This study uses a normative juridical method that explains the interpretation of manuscripts, legal principles and principles, legal rules, theories and legal doctrines that apply as a tool to understand the meaning of legal language communication and to understand the substance of a statutory regulation. The research approach uses a conceptual approach to examine and examine the subject matter. The consequences of blurred inter-connections result in a disparity in the factual application of the law which is correlated with a “policy during decision-making” in a formulaic policy which is a “policy” context. Based on these aspects, especially in language action, it is essentially an "effort in realizing clarity of meaning in laws and regulations so that they are in accordance with current and future implementation and conditions.

Abstract

The purpose of the study were to analyze the Curriculum document of National Curriculum of mathematics of secondary grades. The study employed qualitative research paradigm within it the discourse analysis technique was used to analyze the mathematics curriculum document. Discourse analysis helps in understanding the written, spoken and signs language used in any document analysis. The sample of the study were foreword, introduction, objectives, reviewer’s notes and list of reviewers, the sections of mathematics in the national curriculum of mathematics (2006) for secondary grades. The findings of the study revealed that the National Curriculum of mathematics (NCM) 2006 was focused on transfer of Knowledge. However, it neglected the conceptual understanding of essential subject matter. It has been also discovered that the content of the mathematics is not taught according to the prescribed curriculum. Moreover, standard were not implemented properly. The role learners were recipient of knowledge and that of teachers is transmitter .Thus, it neglected the participatory and constructive approach of teaching and learning mathematics. Moreover, the curriculum ideology was not considered while developing the mathematics curriculum. It is suggested that the curriculum developers should revisit the policy on social constructive approach so that curriculum can be taught conceptually rather than standard based. Moreover, formative assessment should be included throughout the year rather taking annual examinations. It is recommended that teachers should impart mathematics education by linking math to social context and encourage students to construct meanings socially.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of environmental innovation which is product innovation (PDI) and process innovation (PCI) on firm’s financial performance (FFP). And also, to investigate mediating role of the environment management accounting (EMA) against innovation and FFP. Data were collected from 98 respondents, worked in management positions in Indonesia’s manufacturing sectors. The study uses PLS-SEM (partial least square based structural equation modeling) software for the data analysis. The results showed that PDI has positive and significant impacts on FFP. But PCI has not significant impacts on FFP. Furthermore, PDI and PCI have significant impacts on EMA. This study also indicated that EMA mediate the relationship between innovation and FFP in the manufacturing sector of Indonesia. This study suggests the managers of the manufacturing companies or similar sectors to introduce innovations in their products and processes for developing a better EMA system.  The current study also tends to assist policymakers in developing appropriate policies for the manufacturing sector of Indonesia by realizing the importance of environmental innovation, EMA, so that their environmental and economic impacts can be managed and regulated.

A self-constructed questionnaire titled “Students’ awareness and use of e-library” was used to collect relevant data for the study. The instrument was validated by experienced library expert. A reliability co-efficient of 0.75 was obtained through test re-test method. Data collected were analysed using frequency count and simple percentage. The study revealed that students in tertiary institutions were aware of e-library but with low patronage on the use of electronic database. The major source of awareness of electronic library among the students are through friends and sensitization. The finding revealed that students use youtube page more than online database and  e-journal, e-book and google. Based on the findings, the students should be encouraged to use e-library.
