Abstract

Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin Benth) is a plant used as a substance in the pharmaceutical industry such as the manufacture of anti-inflammatory, antifungal, anti-insect and anti-inflammatory drugs. This study aimed to obtain endophytic fungi isolates having the potential as antibacterial by using TLC- Bioautography and agar diffusion methods. This research was conducted by isolating the endophytic fungi from Patchouli leaves and after that, purification and macroscopic tests were carried out and ten isolates were obtained pure. The results of the isolate screening test with codes IFDN 1, IFDN 3, IFDN 4, IFDN 6, IFDN 7, IFDN 8 and IFDN 9, showed the highest inhibition. Furthermore, the antibacterial activity was assayed by TLC-Bioautography. The results showed active spots (Rf 3 = 0.54; Rf 4 = 0.61; Rf 6 = 0.58; Rf 7 = 0.45; Rf 8 = 0.54; Rf 9 =0.47) against Eschericia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidemics. The results of the antibacterial activity test by diffusion method obtained an inhibition zone for each bacterium, namely Staphylococcus aureus of 8.66 mm, Staphylococcus epidermidis of 8.38 mm, and Eschericia coli of12.23 mm.Key Words: Agar diffusion; Antibacterial; Endophytic fungi; skin infections; TLC Bioautograph.

Abstract

Averrhoa bilimbi L. is one of the traditional medicines that people empirically use as medicine to treat various diseases such as cough, diabetes, rheumatism, mumps, canker sores, toothache, bleeding gums, acne, diarrhea to high blood pressure. The research aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of Averrhoa bilimbi L. against gram-positive bacteria. This research applied a literature study method in which the references were obtained from 3 data bases, namely google scholar, pubmed and mdpi, then selected journals that metthe criteria in the literature study.  From the journal exploration, 7 journals were obtained. Then the antibacterial activity of Averrhoa bilimbi L. against gram-positive bacteria was observed. The results confirmed that the fruit and leaves of Averrhoa bilimbi L. had an antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Propionibacterium acnes due to the presence of secondary metabolites, namely saponins, tannins, alkaloids and flavonoid.

Abstract

Pegagan leaves (Centella asiatica (L.)) in the know contain flavonoids, saponins tannin and asiaticosides which have the effect of wound healing and antibacterial. This research aims to review scientific articles related to the potential of pegagan leaves in healing burns and as an antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus. In this study using the literature study method where articles were obtained from the Google Scholar database, then obtained 10 articles that fit the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The review results show that pegagan leaves have activity in healing burn and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus because they contain asiatic acid, saponins, flavonoids and tannins. The conclusion of this study is that pegagan leaves have the potential as wound healing of burns with an effective extract concentration of ethanol extract concentration of 25 % and ethyl acetate extract 0.33 % and pegagan leaves potentially as antibacterial to Staphylococcus aureus with effective extract concentrations, viz ethanol extract concentrations of 100 % and ethyl acetate extracts of concentrations of 70 %.

Abstract

Endophytes represent a complex community of microorganisms colonizing asymptomatically internal tissues of higher plants. Several reports have shown that endophytes enhance the fitness of their host plants by direct production of bioactive secondary metabolites. This study investigated the antibacterial activity of endophytes fungi IFKBM04 isolated from Swietenia mahagoni L. and identified macroscopic and microscopic characteristics of endophytic fungi. Based on the results of macroscopic and microscopic identification compared with the literature to determine the general characteristics of the sample. The results of this morphological identification showed that the sample of mahogany bark isolate (Swietenia mahagoni L.) code IFKMB-04 had similarities with the genus Saccharomyces sp.

Abstract

Tembelekan with the scientific name Lantana camara Linn which is used for generations in medicine that utilizes leaves to treat skin diseases such as tinea versicolor, ringworm and ringworm. Skin infection is a disease that attacks the surface of the body, and is caused by various causes such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi. In this study, the antibacterial activity of the ethanolic extract of the tembelekan leaf (Lantana camara L) was tested using the agar diffusion method and TLC- Bioautography against several test bacteria including Propionibacterium acnes, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis. The results of the screening test for ethanol extract of tembelekan leaves (Lantana camara L) at a concentration of 0.5% can inhibit and kill the growth of the test bacteria. Then proceed with testing the antibacterial activity using the agar diffusion method. The result is that the diameter of the largest inhibition zone of the ethanolic extract of tembelekan leaf (Lantana camara L) was obtained at a concentration of 8%, namely Propionibacterium acnes (15.57 mm), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (17.82 mm), Staphylococcus aureus (16.14 mm). , Staphylococcus epidermidis (15.2 mm). The TLC results of the ethanolic extract of tembelekan (Lantana camara L) leaves with eluent n hexane: ethyl acetate (7: 4) viewed under UV light at 254 nm and 366 nm, 6 stains were seen, each with an Rf value of Rf1 0.90. , Rf2 0.8, Rf3 0.67, Rf4 0.6, Rf5 0.43, Rf6 0.25. Furthermore, the results of TLC-Bioautography showed that there were 2 spots that were active in inhibiting all test bacteria with Rf values = 0.8 and 0.25, respectively.

Abstract

Indonesia has one of potential plants as an herbal medicine, called Lime (Citrus aurantifolia) and Kaffir Lime (Citrus hystrix DC), both used for different purposes such as cooking, seasoning and traditional medicine. Both plants are derived from the family of Rutaceae which belongs to shrubs that have many branches and twigs. This study aimed to carry out the antibacterial assay of the Rutaceae family. This study used a literature study approach, which references were obtained through 3 Journal sources, namely Google scholar, pubmed, and thscience direct. Furthermore the selected research article which met the criteria was reviewed. Based on the search done, it obtained 7 articles and identified antibacterial activity of lime and Kaffir Lime. The result confirmed that both have antibacterial compounds against bacteria Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus because they contain secondary metabolite compounds consisting of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and essential oils.

Abstract

Antioxidants are compounds that can neutralize free radicals that produced by endophyte microbes. This study aims to isolate endophyte fungi and antioxidant activity of isolate endophyte fungi of Annona muricata L. leave used TLC-Autograph Method. The result of isolation endophyte fungi  Annona muricata L. leaves obtained 7 isolates namely FES1, FES2, FES3, FES4, FES5, FES6, dan FES7 colonies. Isolates of endophytic fungi were purified by quadran steak method to obtain pure isolates. The pure isolates obtained were fermented in Maltosa Yeast Broth (MYB) medium using shaker at 200 rpm for 7 x 24 hours to obtain secondary metabolites namely mycelia and supernatant. The results of testing the antioxidant activity of the supernatant extract of endophytic fungi isolates by TLC-Autograph using 0.04% DPPH spray reagent showed that the endophytic fungi isolate FES2 had free radical activity at Rf values of 0.94 and 0.87.
