Abstract

This article is primarily focused on the teaching of the Catholic Churchon the doctrine of indissolubility of marriage. The principal objective isto defend the teaching by offering some canonical-theological analysisbased on canonical scripture and sacred tradition as interpretedauthoritatively by the magisterium of the Catholic church. To achievethis objective, the article is developed in three parts. The first, serves asa point of departure, examines some critics poised by some scholars onthe Church’s teaching on indissolubility of marriage. They offer severalconsiderations that suggest the teaching on indissolubility ought tobe revised in order to admit of exceptions even in case of ratum etconsummatum unions. The second part deals with the analysis of theirargument and shows their erroneous conception of the matrimonialbond. The third part provides some magisterial intervention concerningthe Church’s teaching on indissolubility. The author argues that theteaching cannot be changed since it constitutes an irreformable dogmaof faith, rooted in Sacred Scripture and flows from the very nature ofmarriage as created by God. It must be also defended for the sake of thefaithful whose faith is under constant challenge by divorce mentalitywhich is quickly spreading to other parts of the world.

Abstract

Religious moderation has become a trending issue in Indonesia in thelast five years. This paper attempts to answer two important questions:first, what is the basic teologic for doing religious moderation Muslimsand Catholics in Indonesia; and second, how Young Yun Kim’s theoryof cross-cultural adaptation inspires Muslims and Catholics inimplementing religious moderation in Indonesia. With literature studiesfound; first, the Quran and the Bible are authentic sources in efforts tomoderate religion in Indonesia. Second, Muslims and Catholics are tworeligions that are close to culture, therefore the theory of cross-culturaladaptation becomes an inherent part of the existence of Muslims andCatholics in facing the local tradition. The Catholic Church traditionuses the term inculturation, while the Muslim tradition calls it,culturalization. However, religious moderation is not synonymous withinculturation and culturalization. Inculturation and culturalizationare models of cross-cultural adaptation to the paradigm of religiousmoderation. Here religion and local traditions are interconnected butalso intercorroborated.

Abstract

he Catholic Church is called to maintain the integrity of the naturalenvironment since the environment is regarded as brothers and sisters. The Catholic Church regards this call as a sacred mission. Since themining investment in Manggarai, West Flores occurred the Church ofDiocese of Ruteng has consistently rejected it. The reasons are mininginvestments damage the environment and destroy the culture of localcommunities. Breakdown of various actions of resistance, miningactivities do not exist Manggarai any more, although some MiningBusiness Permits (IUPs) have not been revoked by the government. However, the impact of mining does not necessarily disappear fromthe lives of the people around the mining sites. Based on this fact, it isan urgent call of the Catholic Church in Manggarai to assist the post-mining communities as a form of defending the poor and the suffering. To achieve this goal, this study uses qualitative methods strengthenedby the process of data analysis through collection, reduction, display, and verification of data from interviews, observations, and documentstudies. These processes are also strengthened by questionnaire dataanalyzed by descriptive statistics. The results of the study indicate thatthe Church has been present as a sacrament of salvation and is calledto keep on accompanying and healing the wounds of the residents ofthe former mining circle. These undertakings are carried out through he Church’s five tasks: liturgy, proclamation, service, fellowship, andwitnessing with various derivative activities. But the empowermentof the church is not enough. The church must consistently developalternative economic models so that the people/community areeconomically empowered without damaging the environment, adheringto the principles of sustainable development, namely the principle ofdemocracy, the principle of justice and the principle of sustainability. Thus, the empowerment carried out truly respects participation oflocal communities, restores their culture, and at the same time doesnot destroy the integrity of creation.

Abstract

The essence of the universe is finite, not eternal. So is also everything in it.Therefore, the state is created matter. Humans as creatures that inhabitthe earth have characteristics that are not owned by other inhabitantsof the earth such as animals and plants. Man has consciousness andhigher than that, he has self-awareness. Until now it is still believed byscientists, that this universe has no consciousness and much less self-awareness. Therefore, it is quite possible that man is not a special productof this universe. Because matter without consciousness cannot possiblyproduce conscious beings. The effect cannot be higher than the cause. Thus, we presume there is a rational, eternal cause who is the creator ofthe world and everything in it, including humans. God is the creator ofthe universe and he created it out of love with complete freedom. Becausethe universe is born of divine love, it is inse good and it is good that itexists. The ethical imperative of the existence of the universe is basedon God’s free will, which is based on His love for creating the world. Theuniverse is not divine. He is different from God. He exists not becauseof the process of emanation but the result of God’s free creation.

Abstract

The purpose of the present article is to analyse the juridical and pastoral basis behind the policy on the limitation of sacramental service for the faithful introduced by Diocesan Bishop as the Church’s authority in the face of the spreading COVID -19 epidemic. The analysis aims to answer questions not only concerning the conformity of the policy with the Code of Canon law 1983, but also pertaining the issue of the rights of the faithful to receive sacrament. In relation to these questions, the author concludes that the introduction of the policy was adequate and necessary for the sake of the salvation of body of the people as a whole and in accord with the Church’s law. On the other hand, the author also point out that the above-mentioned policy must be always carried out properly without ignoring the rights of the faithful. Therefore, the article postulates that it is very important for the Diocesan Bishop to maintain a rational balance between the salvation of body of the people as a whole and Christ’s faithful’s rights to receive sacraments from the Church.
